Abstract

This study aimed to identify the common sentence errors that found on online diary of 8th batch SEA Teacher blog writing in University of Santo Tomas Philippines, to identify the most dominant errors found on online diary of 8th batch SEA teacher blog writing in University of Santo Tomas Philippines, to describe the problems faced by 8th batch SEA teacher in University of Santo Tomas Philippines in writing online diary. The research design of this study was descriptive qualitative. For collecting data, the writer used non-interactive techniques by analyzing nine online diaries and distributing questionnaire. Moreover, the writer employed three steps for analyzing the data, namely data reduction, data display, and drawing conclusion. The writer analyzed nine online diaries. The writer found the common sentence errors on nine online diaries written by 8th batch SEA teacher in University of Santo Tomas Philippines. The most dominant error was fragment (45%) followed by run-on sentence (31%), and dangling modifier (24%). Whereas, problems faced by 8th batch SEA teacher in University of Santo Tomas Philippines were the poor ability to arrange the good structure of writing, the lack of time management, the lack of experience in writing and designing or even using a blog and the lack of creativity to convert the diary into communicative one. Keywords: Common Sentence Errors, Fragment, Run-on Sentence, Dangling Modifier, Online Diary, Blog Writing

Abstract

This study aimed at analysing cultural relations in Black Panther movie with main purposes are to 1) find the kinds of cultural relations in Black Panther movie, and 2) find the realization of cultural relations in Black Panther movie. The study used qualitative research method. For collecting the data, the study used Black Panther movie script. The study analyzed the situation and dialogue in the movie using the theory of cultural relations’ types by Iriye (2002) and cultural elements by Barkan (2012. The study found that both types of cultural relations by Iriye exist in the movie, they are direct cultural interaction and indirect cultural interaction. Direct cultural interactions denote physical encounters with people and objects of another culture. Besides, indirect cultural interaction involves ideas, values, and beliefs proper to a specific culture and often featured in philosophy, literature, music, and art that are acting as cross-national tools, which can foster and strengthen intercultural dialogue. The researchers hoped the readers can understand more about cultural relations and change their mind become more critical when they are facing the problems in society related to cultures.

Abstract

This research is aimed to find out correlation between two variables, the vocabulary mastery as the objective variable (X) and the writing ability in descriptive text as the subjective variable (Y). The research method used is quantitative method. The population used is 7 grade of SMPN 2 Pringapus with a total of 194 students. For the sample, only one class is used, there is 7E grade with 38 students. To analyzed the instrument, there are two types of analysis, namely the technique of dividing students into three criteria and the analysis technique using Pearson Product Moment correlation. With the results, there is a significant correlation between vocabulary mastery and writing ability in writing descriptive text in 7 grade at SMPN 2 Pringapus, with the following results: With degree of significance 5%, the score of r table () obtained is 0.329, therefore,  >  (0.603 > 0.329), meanwhile, with degree of significance 1%, the score of rt gained is 0.424, therefore,  >  (0.603 > 0.424). The conclusion is HA is accepted.

Abstract

Vocabulary becomes an important aspect to learn because it is the tool to recognize words’ meaning and sentences, and to create sentences, paragraphs and texts.  In order to improve students’ vocabularies, media are needed to help students memorize them. The aim of the research is to notice how effective Instagram filter in enhancing students’ vocabulary comprehension. For this reason, teacher should find an innovative media for teaching vocabulary to students in most interesting way. Lately, Instagram becomes the most widely used social networking platform. Most people spend a lot of time scrolling on Instagram just to have fun, find some information, or even to get new friends. This platform is served with feed, stories, reel, IG TV and IG filter. This study employed IG filter to be used as a media to teach vocabulary to students. This is based on what the researchers observed that most students in schools, in this case is high school, like to play with Instagram filters. This what makes the researchers interested in using Instagram filter as a media for teaching vocabularies. This research is designed as quasi experiment which is held in one of senior high schools in Jepara. The findings reveal that IG filter is effective and successful to be used as a media for teaching vocabulary and to improve students’ comprehension in vocabulary. The average score was in good category (86.33). While the N-gain score was 58.72% which is categorized as quite effective. It means that Instagram filters is quite effective as a learning media.
