Abstract

Beberapa permasalahan dalam pengajaran pronunciation masih belum dapat diselesaikan seperti terbatasnya waktu dalam setiap sesi pembelajaran, perbedaan gaya belajar mahasiswa, dan perbedaan tingkat kemahiran bahasa Inggris siswa. Untuk mengatasi masalah ini, dosen perlu menentukan sebuah proyek yang memungkinkan mahasiswa menguasai teori dan praktik dalam mata kuliah tersebut yang relevan dengan perkembangan teknologi. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui apakah dan sejauh mana video tutorial buatan mahasiswa dapat meningkatkan kemampuan pengucapan siswa. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah penelitian tindakan kelas. Teknik purposive sampling diterapkan dan sembilan orang mahasiswa semester I tahun ajaran 2023/2024 dari salah satu sekolah tinggi swasta di Pekanbaru diambil sebagai sampel. Data kuantitatif diperoleh dari ujian dan data kualitatif diperoleh dari observasi, checklist, catatan lapangan, dan wawancara. Setelah menganalisis data, ditemukan bahwa video buatan siswa mampu meningkatkan keterampilan pengucapan mahasiswa. Peningkatan kemampuan mahasiswa terseut dari level “cukup” menjadi “baik” pada akhir siklus 1. Faktor yang mempengaruhi peningkatan tersebut adalah proses persiapan dan produksi video yang meningkatkan kemampuan pronunciation mereka, terutama dalam pelafazan akhiran –d /-ed dalam bahasa Inggris. Dengan demikian, dapat disimpulkan bahwa video tutorial buatan siswa sebagai pembelajaran berbasis proyek memberikan hasil positif untuk meningkatkan keterampilan pronunciation mahasiswa.

Abstract

EFL learners encounter many challenges in developing their reading abilities such as vocabulary gaps, grammatical difficulties, and cultural understanding. However, conventional instructional methodologies have demonstrated limitations to meet learning needs. This condition creating a compelling imperative for innovative technological solutions which personalize and optimize the reading comprehension learning experience. This research was intended to identify whether and to what extent Kahoot games as technology integration enhance learners ability in critical reading. The research implemented action research method.  The research was conducted in one cycle which consisted of five meetings, started with pre-test, treatment, and post-test. The sample was taken by adopting purposive sample. Nine students from 2023/2024 academic year from a private public college in Pekanbaru were taken as the sample. The data were collected quantitatively by utilizing quiz feature in kahoot platform, and qualitatively by using interview. The data were analyzed by using three data analysis theory. After analyzing the data, it was found that the implementation of Kahoot as one of technology integration was able to motivate learners to enhance their ability in learning various text and make learners more enjoy in learning critical reading. However, the utilize of Kahoot was not advisable for test as it had limited time to think and synthesize information from the text. It can be concluded that the implementation of technology integration through Kahoot provided positive result in learners’ critical reading.

Abstract

Stressing is one of the most important pronunciation points in English conversation. Without correct stress, other people might difficult to understand what the speakers’ saying. However, the teachers as well as lecturers as the role model sometimes made inaccurate stressing which made the teaching of pronunciation is overlook. This research aimed to find out the students’ perception in utilizing youtube video as learning media in teaching stress pronunciation. The method of the research was descriptive qualitative. The sample was taken by purposive sampling techniqe. Eighteen students from the first semester of 2022/2023 academic year from a private public college in Pekanbaru were taken as the sample. The instrument used to collect data was questionaire from google form. The data were analyzed by using three data analysis theory. After analyzing the data, it was found that utilizing youtube as learning media for students was entertaining and educational. It also provided clear and accurate stress pronunciation by native speaker. Beside that students got opportunity to practice stressing pronunciation while watching the video, and the video itself can be rewound for many times, Thus, it can be concluded that students had a positive perception in utilizing youtube video as learning media in teaching stress pronunciation.

Abstract

Pronunciation has been regarded as the most challenging aspect of language teaching and learning. EFL learners faced difficulties in perceiving, producing, and mastering the intricate sound patterns of a new language, which can lead to communication breakdowns and reduced intelligibility. The use of learners-made tutorial videos in teaching pronunciation might overcome some of these challenges. This research aimed to find out learners’ perception of the role of technology in teaching ending sounds –s/es pronunciation through learners' self-made tutorial video. The research used descriptive qualitative method. The sample was taken by purposive sampling technique. Ten learners from the first semester of 2023/2024 academic year from a private public college in Pekanbaru were taken as the sample. The instrument used to collect data was questionaire from google form. The data were analyzed by using three data analysis theories. After analyzing the data, it was found that technology helped learners to be more responsible in studying, gain more knowledge beyond what the lecturer taught in the class, learn independently, encourage them to exchange knowledge with their classmate, and improve their English skill through making self tutorial videos in pronouncing –s/-es ending sound. Thus, it can be concluded that learners had a positive perception on the role of technology in teaching pronunciation especially in pronouncing –s/-es ending sound. Regarding the positive perception on the role of technology in teaching ending sound –s/-es perception, it is suggested to lecturers as well as English teachers to optimize the role of technology in teaching not only ending sound –s/-es, but also other aspects of pronunciation.

Abstract

Critical reading requires advanced cognitive skills to evaluate, interpret, and analyse texts effectively. However, mastering critical reading can be challenging, especially for learners, due to factors such as vocabulary gaps, cultural differences, and diverse educational backgrounds. This study aimed to explore learners' perspectives on the implementation of digital annotation in enhancing their critical reading skills. This was descriptive qualitative research. Total sampling technique was applied in choosing the sample which involving sixteen eleventh-grade students from a private Islamic senior high school. The data were collected by using a questionnaire developed through Google Forms and it were analysed by reducing, displaying, and drawing conclusion which adopted from a three-step qualitative data analysis.The findings revealed that the use of digital annotation tools was perceived positively by students, as it facilitated better comprehension of reading materials, eased the acquisition of new vocabulary, encouraged critical thinking, and supported the generation of new ideas. Nevertheless, several challenges were identified, such as difficulty in articulating critical thoughts in writing, challenges in interpreting feedback notes, unstable internet connectivity, limited digital skills and supporting resources, digital distractions, and confusion caused by excessive annotations from multiple perspectives. In conclusion, learners had a generally positive attitude toward digital annotation despite facing implementation barriers. Therefore, educators are encouraged to integrate digital annotation thoughtfully, considering students’ digital literacy, technological access, and regional educational contexts to ensure effective and inclusive learning.

Abstract

Abstrak Sekolah Adi Wiyata merupakan wahana dan sistem yang penting dalam pengembangan karakter peduli lingkungan untuk mencegah kerusakan lingkungan lebih lanjut. Sistem pendidikan dalam sekolah Adi Wiyata membelajarkan siswa secara holistik tentang pengetahuan, keterampilan, dan sikap lingkungan, selain juga menjadi gerakan peduli lingkungan yang melibatkan seluruh stakeholders sekolah: siswa, guru, tenaga administrasi, orang tua, serta masyarakat sekitar. Dengan demikian sekolah dapat menjadi wahana dan sistem yang nyaman dan dinamis bagi siswa untuk megembangankan good knowing, good filling, dan good acting tentang lingkungan hidup. Penelitian yang dilakukan berupa penelitian kualitatif dengan mengamati situasi sosial yang ada di lapangan. Populasi dalam penelitian kualitatif dinamakan “social situation” yang terdiri atas tiga elemen yaitu: tempat (place), pelaku (actors), dan aktivitas (activity) yang berinteraksi secara sinergis. Ketiga elemen tersebut yang dijadikan sebagai objek penelitian untuk mengetahui peristiwa apa yang terjadi di dalamnya untuk mencapai tujuan penelitian. Tujuan penelitian tersebut untuk mengetahui perilaku siswa/i SD Negeri 6 Pekanbaru dalam implementasi Adiwiyata. Teknik pengumpulan data secara partisipatif, wawancara, dan dokumentasi. Adiwiyata Sangat memiliki dampak terhadap SDN 6 Pekanbaru antara lain adalah sekolah dapat lebih berperan aktif dalam menciptakan kawasan yang peduli dengan lingkungan dan dapat menciptakan siswa - siswi yang sadar akan lingkungan. Abstract Nowadays more widespread environmental damage and touching the physical and moral aspects of society. Damage to water, air, land and forests due to human behavior directly or indirectly, has proven to be bad for human life itself. School Adi Wiyata program is a vehicle and systems are important in the development of the character concerned about the environment to prevent further environmental damage. The education system in Adi Wiyata school program students in holistically about the knowledge, skills, and attitudes of the environment, in addition to being the environmental movement that involves all stakeholders of the school: students, teachers, administrators, parents and the surrounding community. Thus the school can be a vehicle and a comfortable and dynamic system for students to develop for good knowing, good filling and good acting on the environment.

Abstract

Kegiatan pengabdian masyarakat ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan keterampilan berbicara bahasa Inggris siswa kelas XI MA Al-Fajr Pekanbaru melalui pemanfaatan perangkat karakter berbasis AI sebagai media pembelajaran interaktif. Metode yang digunakan meliputi observasi awal kemampuan speaking siswa, identifikasi kebutuhan, penyampaian materi mengenai teknik berbicara yang efektif, serta praktik langsung menggunakan AI-powered character yang didampingi oleh narasumber. Kegiatan juga dilengkapi dengan diskusi interaktif, simulasi percakapan, dan evaluasi melalui penilaian praktik serta umpan balik langsung dari narasumber untuk mengukur peningkatan kemampuan berbicara. Hasil pelaksanaan menunjukkan bahwa siswa MA Al-Fajr Pekanbaru mampu berbicara dengan lebih lancar, menggunakan kosakata dan struktur kalimat yang tepat, serta meningkatnya kepercayaan diri mereka dalam berkomunikasi menggunakan bahasa Inggris. Secara keseluruhan, pelatihan ini memberikan dampak positif terhadap kompetensi komunikasi siswa dan dapat dijadikan model untuk pengembangan pembelajaran berbasis AI di masa mendatang.
