Abstract

Acts of terrorism seem to never run out of Indonesia, from independence to the present day. Including the ideals of the establishment of an "Islamic State" that gave rise to a new wave of terrorism. The JAD group affiliated with ISIS clearly states that the Indonesian republic is Thogut, so it is haram to be obedient to it, and they commit an act of terror some time ago. ISIS cleverly uses religious propositions to recruit new members. The verses of the Qur'an and the Sunnah of the Prophet became his legitimacy. The concept of Hijra, Necrophilia and millenarism became the main doctrine of the ISIS. ISIS uses this narrative to facilitate and call for action in Indonesia. ISIS also utilizes social media well, this facilitates the idea of necrophilia, millenarism of ISIS is practiced by its sympathizers. Through qualitative and text analysis and the idea approach, necrophilia from Erich Fromm and millenalism from Norman Cohn, and other narrative this research is intended to make counter narrative of ISIS. so that the emergence is the concept of biophilia and optimism against the times and build a better future.

Abstract

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) may have withdrawn its troops from Yemen, but its influence remains substantial and significant. From the first stage of the war, Saudi Arabia focused on the north of Yemen, while the UAE actively engaged in the north's south and coastal areas. Not only trains fighters, but the UAE also provides them with financial and political support. This is a descriptive-analytical article, using qualitative methods with data and works of literature, collected various books, journals, and online resources related to the topic. Furthermore, the author uses the "devide et impera" theory to elaborate, examine, and investigate the UAE's policy, as well as its strategy, in Yemen. This article found that UAE's divide and rule strategy is applied to achieve several interests in Yemen, such as countering terrorism, extremism, and Houthi. Nevertheless, the UAE is also ambitious to dispel al-Islah, a group affiliated to the Islamic Brotherhood.

Abstract

This study examines the controversy over non-Muslim leadership in Indonesia, a Muslim-majority country, through the perspective of decisions made by the Lajnah Bahtsul Masā’il (LBM) of Nahdlatul Ulama (NU). Using qualitative analysis of NU congress records from 1926 to 2000 and classical fiqh literature, the study identifies two dominant views. First, there is an absolute prohibition based on Al-Ma’idah (5:51), which emphasizes the prohibition of appointing non-Muslims as leaders. This verse is used as a reference to assert a strict theological position regarding leadership. On the other hand, there is an alternative view permitting non-Muslim leadership in emergency situations, provided that the leader comes from Ahlul Dzimmah and is under strict supervision. This perspective demonstrates flexibility in the interpretation of Islamic law, especially in the context of urgent social and political needs. In certain cases where a non-Muslim leader is considered more capable of managing public affairs, NU shows a pragmatic stance aligned with the Shafi’i fiqh principles that prioritize the welfare (maslahah) of the community. These findings reveal a tension between textual interpretation and contextual necessity, highlighting NU’s pragmatic approach to addressing pluralism challenges in Indonesia. Thus, this study contributes to debates on Islamic law and pluralism and encourages dialogue to bridge religious norms with democratic governance. In conclusion, it is important to develop a more inclusive and adaptive understanding of leadership in diverse societies to create harmony between religious values and modern societal needs.

Abstract

This paper aims to discover how santri’s resistance within kitab kuning reading acceleration program recently popular in Madurese pesantren turns out to improve the program itself. Santris’ resistance becomes a big deal considering its contradiction to ethical unwritten rules in pesantren while the fact shows how this phenomenon strikes. For that purpose, genealogy of such programs is firstly identified along with characteristics of each to figure out how, beyond the existing diversities, the programs share the same pattern, including the common root and impact of resistance. Involving 240 informants from santri, ustad, and program providers, this mixed research expanded its data compilation with in-depth interviews engaging some selected informants as well as comprehensive desk review. The result discloses  pesantren networking in intellectual hub responding to nowadays challenges in the decrease of kitab kuning reading proficiency along with dynamics of resistance among santri, mainly in negotiation type through emotional, verbal, and physical expression. Despite the fact that resistance mutates along with punishment as a part of rule, it has less influence on the program accomplishment, implying how both program and its resistance based system improvement transform the way Islamic education takes place beyond the studens’ sort of transgression.
