Abstract

December 2019 marks a change in the perception of security itself because the enemy is invisible in the form of a virus that can endanger human survival. In this article, the author wants to discuss changes in the perception of "threat" in security from a "visible" threat to an "invisible" threat. Library research was used by the author in this article. The author uses three concepts as the development of security, namely traditional security concept, non-traditional security concept, and national security concept to analyze the case. The findings show that invisible threat in the form of virus or pandemic does not need military readiness as in traditional security. It rather needs a good healthcare system as part of the national resilience of a country in facing threat.

Abstract

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) may have withdrawn its troops from Yemen, but its influence remains substantial and significant. From the first stage of the war, Saudi Arabia focused on the north of Yemen, while the UAE actively engaged in the north's south and coastal areas. Not only trains fighters, but the UAE also provides them with financial and political support. This is a descriptive-analytical article, using qualitative methods with data and works of literature, collected various books, journals, and online resources related to the topic. Furthermore, the author uses the "devide et impera" theory to elaborate, examine, and investigate the UAE's policy, as well as its strategy, in Yemen. This article found that UAE's divide and rule strategy is applied to achieve several interests in Yemen, such as countering terrorism, extremism, and Houthi. Nevertheless, the UAE is also ambitious to dispel al-Islah, a group affiliated to the Islamic Brotherhood.

Abstract

There are differences of opinion among various groups after the stipulation of the Armed Criminal Group (KKB) in Papua as a terrorist group/organization. KKB has been identified with the West Papua National Liberation Army (TPNPB-OPM), which is one of the armed separatist movements in Papua. The determination based on armed violence carried out by the KKB has political, ideological, and security motives which are elements in the crime of terrorism. In the context of criminal law reform, the drafters of the Criminal Code separate criminal acts of terrorism and treason in different forms and concepts. Separately, they are categorized as special crimes and crimes against state security. By using the normative juridical method, the authors conclude that the determination of the KKB as a terrorist group/organization is the right policy of the Indonesian government. Based on the three motives above, the KKB can now be categorized as an ethnic-nationalist separatist terrorism group.

Abstract

Papua always an interesting discussion along with the rampant acts of violence against civilians carried out by the Independent Papua Organization (OPM), which were later labeled with various terms such as the Armed Separatist Group (KSB), Armed Criminal Group (KKB), Armed Separatist Criminal Group (KKSB). KKB carried out acts of violence in killing civilians, government officials vandalizing and burning public facilities. Because of the ways that are similar to acts of terrorism, this group is finally called the Armed Terrorism Group (KTB). The Indonesian National Army (TNI) and Indonesian Republic Police (POLRI) security forces have taken repressive actions with armed contact as an effort to uphold law and sovereignty, especially in responding to the actions of armed separatist groups. Although some believe that the crackdown by the officers will lead to human rights violations. In this paper, the author will try to analyze the security enforcement of KTB and also look at the development side of Papua. This study uses qualitative methods with comprehensive analysis through accountable data. Research suggests that the State must provide a sense of security to Papuans who are often terrorized, protect the rights of Papuans who are often taken away by the KTB group. So, it can be said that the repressive actions of the TNI-Polri security forces against KTB were not human rights violations.

Abstract

The principle of justice is the main foundation that must be upheld regardless of gender, race, or social background. However, in reality, women in conflict with the law often face different challenges and discrimination compared to men. It must be recognized that women are vulnerable in the legal and social context. They often experience structural and cultural inequalities, which can affect their access to justice. For example, negative perceptions and gender stereotypes sometimes affect the objectivity of law enforcement officials in handling cases involving women, both as victims and suspects. Therefore, providing justice to women in the legal process is a necessity that is not only normative but must also be realized in real terms through special policies, approaches, and protection. This article analyzes how gender-responsive legal protection and assistance mechanisms are crucial for women dealing with the law. This research uses descriptive qualitative methods to gain an in-depth understanding of the problems faced by women in the legal process. The results showed that providing justice to women in conflict with the law requires a real commitment from various parties, from law enforcement agencies and legal counsel through mechanisms to strengthen advocacy and gender mainstreaming. Thus, justice can be felt and given without gender discrimination, and women can be protected, treated fairly, and have their rights by applicable regulations.
