Abstract

Abstract

Indonesia has a relatively high threat of disasters, including floods that result in human casualties, environmental damage, property losses, and psychological impacts. Prevention efforts need to be carried out, namely mitigation and preparedness. Central Sulawesi Province is the 9th out of 10 provinces in Indonesia that are often affected by disasters. Sigi Regency is a flood-prone area. In 2021, there have been eight floods in Rogo and Wisolo villages. Health workers are important and technical implementers before, during, and after disasters. The purpose of this study is to look at the factors that affect the preparedness of health workers in dealing with flood disasters at the Baluase Health Center. Analytical survey research with a cross-sectional approach. The sample is all health workers at the Baluase Health Center, totaling 44 people. The independent variables are age, gender, length of work, level of education, knowledge, and attitude. In contrast, the dependent variable is the preparedness of health workers in dealing with flood disaster situations. Questionnaires are used in primary data collection. The multivariate analysis of logistic regression variables in step 5 found a relationship between age (p equals 0.028), attitude (p equals 0.052), and preparedness of health workers in dealing with flood disasters. It is hoped that the increase in preparedness for health workers will continue to be improved to reduce the post-disaster impact.

Abstract

Stunting is one of the health issues. Prevention efforts for stunting include interventions targeted at various life stages, such as adolescence and preconception. The purpose of this study was to examine the influence of stunting prevention cards in enhancing the knowledge of adolescent girls to prevent stunting. Method: This study employed a Pre-Experimental Design with a One Group Pretest–Posttest Design, involving a sample size of 50 respondents. Data were collected using a knowledge questionnaire consisting of 10 items, each with 4 multiple-choice answer categories, with a maximum score of 100 and a minimum score of 10. The questionnaire was distributed to all respondents before the game, and the time for questionnaire completion was 20–25 minutes (pre-test). Subsequently, respondents were given 10 minutes to read the explanations of categories found on the stunting prevention cards. Afterward, a game lasting 1 hour was conducted, followed by a question and answer session lasting 25–30 minutes. Finally, respondents were given a 30-minute break before being provided with the same questionnaire again, with a questionnaire completion time of 25–30 minutes (post-test). Data were processed and analyzed univariately and bivariate using the T-test. The research results were then presented in tables and narrative form. Result: The statistical test yielded a p-value of 0.000 or p < 0.05. This indicates that the stunting prevention cards significantly influenced the increase in the knowledge level of adolescent girls. Conclusion: The higher the level of knowledge among adolescents, the better they are at preventing stunting.

Abstract

Abstract

Background: Indonesia has the third-highest stunting rate in Southeast Asia, with inadequate of complementary feeding  contributing to the issue. Enhancing pregnant women's knowledge and attitudes about proper complementary feeding is crucial, and research shows that audio-visual media is more effective for education than other formats. This study aimed to compare the effectiveness of audio-visual educational media and leaflets in educating pregnant women about the four conditions (namely timely, adequate, safe, and properly fed) for giving complementary feeding. Methods: This study utilized a quasi-experimental design with a post-test-only control group. Data was collected from 40 Biromaru Community Health Center pregnant women from August to September 2023. The analysis utilized frequency distribution and the Mann-Whitney test. Results: The average knowledge (24.58) and attitude (25.88) of the audio-visual media group was higher than the knowledge (16.43) and attitude (15.13) of the leaflet media group. P value=0.02(<0.05) for the knowledge variable and p=0.01(<0.05) for the attitude variable Conclusion: Audio-visual media is more effective than leaflets in improving knowledge and attitudes about the four complementary feeding requirements to prevent stunting in pregnant women. It can serve as an alternative educational tool for health workers during pregnant women's classes.
