Abstract

This study aims to examine the social movement of the Labuan Bajo community, which is part of the Save Pantai Pede Movement, as a form of resistance to the privatization of public space by the provincial government and private investors. The primary issue in this study is the power imbalance in the management of public space, which contributes to the marginalization of local communities. This study employs a critical approach, utilizing Norman Fairclough's Critical Discourse Analysis and Pierre Bourdieu's theories of habitus, capital, and social field as analytical tools. Data were obtained through documentation studies, observations, and in-depth interviews, which were analyzed at three levels: textual, discourse practice, and sociocultural practice. The study's results show that the community, particularly young people and local artists, produces a discourse of resistance through art and public symbols that affirm public space as a shared right. This movement has succeeded in transforming the commercialization project into a broader public debate on spatial justice and community political participation. These findings confirm that community-based social movement can be an effective tool for political negotiation in addressing structural and capitalist domination of public space.

Abstract

The text of Joko Widodo's speech when he was inaugurated as President of the Republic of Indonesia in 2019-2024 represents a five-year work plan and at the same time building Indonesia's advanced discourse. Thus, this study aims to examine and deepen the discourse using the Norman Fairclough critical discourse analysis framework. This study found that at the level of text analysis, Joko Widodo chose to use figures of speech or imagery as well as the interpretation of certain parts as the guardians of his intentions or ideas. Then at the level of discourse practice analysis, researchers found that there was a link between Joko Widodo's life experience and the direction of his policy despite positive and negative reactions to the content of the speech. Finally, at the level of analysis of sociocultural practices, researchers found that the text of Joko Widodo's speech departed from the condition of the Indonesian people during 2014 to 2019

Abstract

Tourism is an important aspect as part of the government's priority. This paper investigates the enhancement of Banyumaro River Tubing tourism through innovative merchandise design, aiming to improve the overall visitor experience while promoting local culture and environmental awareness. The study begins by analyzing the current state of tubing tourism along the Banyumaro River Tubing, identifying the existing challenges related to visitor engagement, local economic benefits, and ecological sustainability. By integrating merchandise that reflects the unique attributes of the Banyumaro River Tubing and surrounding communities, the research underscores the potential for merchandise to serve not only as souvenirs but also as educational tools that raise awareness about river conservation and promote the local culture. Furthermore, the study employs design thinking to gain insights from local stakeholders. Results indicate that well-designed merchandise can significantly enhance brand recognition and visitor satisfaction, leading to increased repeat visits and a stronger economic impact on the local community. The findings offer actionable recommendations for local entrepreneurs and tourism operators on effective merchandise design strategies that align with sustainable tourism practices. This research contributes to the growing body of literature on tourism enhancement through product innovation, highlighting the role of local merchandise in driving sustainable tourism development in riverine environments.
