Abstract

CPM (Critical Path Method) is a method for determining the priority of activities that must receive careful supervision attention so that activities can be completed according to plan. The problem in this study is that there are several jobs that are delayed and must be accelerated. The purpose of this study is to find out the activities that are on the critical path and compare the initial time and cost of the project with the time and cost after using the CPM method. This research method uses a quantitative approach. The results of the discussion in this study indicate that the critical path obtained in the Andalas University Central Laboratory Development Project is in work with the code B - D - E - H - J - L - M - O - Q - R. After getting the work that is on the critical path, the acceleration time calculation is carried out by adding 1 hour of overtime, resulting in an additional cost of Rp 15,894,743, this causes a change in the value of the project cost which was initially Rp. 55,924,829,000 to Rp 55,940,723,743.

Abstract

Lightweight steel roof truss technology is increasingly used in building construction because it is efficient, light, and adaptable to field installation. However, youth construction workers in community-based working groups still face limited technical knowledge, installation experience, and access to specific tools. This community engagement program aimed to improve the competency of the Youth Working Group of Simpang Anduring, Kuranji District, Padang City, in applying proper lightweight steel roof truss installation practices. The activity was implemented through initial survey, preparation, technical socialization, material and equipment introduction, direct field practice, mentoring, and evaluation. The program was conducted on 10-12 October 2025 and involved 20 construction workers. The training covered C75.75 lip-channel profiles, battens, screws, dynabolts, cutting tools, hand drills, measuring tools, and field assembly of trusses and battens. The results showed that participants became more familiar with lightweight steel components, installation sequences, equipment use, and practical work procedures. The program also facilitated tools that can be used by the partner group for future jobs. This activity strengthened technical capacity, improved worker confidence, and created an opportunity for sustainable construction-based income generation in the local youth community.
