Abstract

The purpose of this study is to evaluate the relationship between funding provided by LPEI in conventional and sharia forms to export growth, using two separate models to compare the two types of funding. This study also examines the relationship between inflation and the rupiah exchange rate on Indonesia's export growth. The analysis uses monthly data from 2015 to 2022 and ARDL approach in data analysis, with the help of EViews 12 to estimate the long-run and short-run impact of these variables on export growth. The results of this study show that in the short run, neither conventional nor sharia LPEI financing has a significant impact on export growth. The value of exports in the previous period and the previous two periods has a negative effect on current export growth. In contrast, export growth is positively affected by the value of exports in the previous three and four periods. Changes in the rupiah exchange rate in the previous period have a positive effect on export growth in the Islamic LPEI financing model, while changes in the inflation rate have no significant effect on export growth. In the long run, both conventional and Islamic LPEI financing do not have a major impact on export growth. The positive impact on export growth in the Islamic LPEI financing model is caused by fluctuations in the rupiah exchange rate in the long run. Changes in inflation do not have a significant impact on export growth based on other macroeconomic variables.

Abstract

Poverty has become a main issue faced by many developing countries. It is worsened by the fact that a few rich people have equal wealth to most of the world's population. Hence attempts to reduce the poverty number have been initiated by many players including academicians and international organizations such as the United Nations through the United Nations Development Program (UNDP). On the other hand, Islamic philanthropy such as Waqf has been linked as a medium to not only eradicate poverty but also attempt to develop and empower society. Therefore, this study attempts to link waqf practices and Sustainable development goals (SDGs). This study uses qualitative methods i.e., explanatory studies. This study finds that waqf has similar characteristics with SDGs in at least 7 out of 17 goals of SDGs, including No Poverty goal, zero hunger goal, good health and wealth being goal, quality education goal, affordable and clean energy goal, decent work and economy goal, and industry, innovation, and infrastructure goal. Hence its promotion of the SDGs program is essential and undeniable. Future studies are encouraged to look further at the potential applications and practices of Waqf to the SDGs, particularly from the perspective of public policy and law.

Abstract

This study attempts to investigate the determinants of inflation in Malaysia and Indonesia in the long run. By using macroeconomic variables that theoretically matter to manage inflation such as money supply and exchange rate, this study also includes geopolitical risk index as proxy of uncertainty to be investigated further as another determinant that may cause the increasing of inflation rate in Malaysia and Indonesia. The data covers the period 2014:M11 to 2023:M8. Autoregressive distributed lag (ARDL) approach is employed to determine the long-run relationship. The main findings in this study demonstrate that the money supply and geopolitical risk are among the determinants of inflation in Malaysia in the long run. Meanwhile contrary to that, only money supply determines inflation in Indonesia. The finding indicates that money supply and geopolitical risk matter to inflation management. Hence, this study suggests that monetary authorities must take an active role towards money supply and geopolitical risk issue.
