Abstract

ABSTRACT Intermediate and holding rearing of botia face several problems such as the limited land, water quality, and decreased growth. The application of a recirculation culture system using the blood clam filter is increased to water quality and expected to solve the problems. This study aimed to analyze the production performance of botia fish on intermediate and holding rearing in the recirculation system by utilizing blood clams as the filter. This study used a factorial completely randomized design with two factors; clam particle sizes (1 mm, 2 mm, and 3 mm) and dosages (1.4 g/L, 1.8 g/L, and 2.2 g/L). Every experiment was conducted in three replication. The aquarium used in this study was 40×40×60 cm3. The size of fish samples was 3.5 ± 0.5 cm with the stocking density (3 fish/L, each test aquarium). The recirculation system was applied seven days before the fish were stocked. Every 15 days, weight and length of fish were measured (for 60 days). The results of physical (temperature) and chemical (pH, dissolved oxygen, ammonia dan nitrite) water quality in the recirculation system using the blood clam filter showed good conditions for botia fish. The stress response of botia blood glucose and TKO fluctuates with environmental changes. Mineral water and fish produced by calcium, magnesium, and phosphorus increase until the end of maintenance. There is an interaction at TKH between particle size and the dose of blood shells, whereas, LMPW, LMPL, and RKP significantly different only the use of dose 2.2 g/L. Keywords: Clamshells, botia fish, pH value, minerals, recirculation.

Abstract

Catfish is a fish that is currently in great demand among Indonesian people. Catfish are nocturnal fish that are active at night and are also omnivorous or eat everything. Catfish is a fish that can consume food from plants such as vegetables and trash fish as well as other food ingredients, one of which is chicken manure. The nutritional content of chicken manure can be substituted in making catfish feed so that the use of chicken manure for fish feed can be done. In this study, 4 treatments were made with 3 repetitions, namely A1 (control), A2 (10%), A3 (15%) and A4 (20%). The highest protein content was obtained in treatment A4 (20%) with a value of 32.40%. The best daily growth results were obtained in treatment A2 (10%) which was 3.80 cm and was the highest value compared to the daily growth value in the control. The best survival rate results were obtained in treatment A3 (15%), namely 99.33%. The best feed efficiency was obtained in treatment A2 (10%), namely 97.70% and the highest survival value was obtained in this treatment. From the results of the research that has been carried out, it was found that the best treatment is the use of chicken manure in treatment A2, namely the use of 10% manure in additional feed for catfish farming fish, so that the use of 10% chicken manure in 1 kg of feed can increase growth and feed efficiency in fish farming catfish.

Abstract

One of the suboptimal land resources is shrimp and coconut. Increasing productivity on suboptimal land is essential by utilizing typical land. A concern arises with the use of waste as a preservative. The necessity to replace preservatives made from chemical raw materials with natural alternatives is evident. The research aimed to determine and optimize the antioxidant properties of chitosan combined with liquid smoke from coconut shells (Cocos nucifera) as a natural food preservative. The study utilized a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with 4 treatments repeated three times. The treatments consisted of different concentrations. The results indicated that varying concentrations of Cocos nucifera liquid smoke combined with sterilized glucose and chitosan had a significant effect on antioxidant analysis and the Maillard reaction. Higher concentrations of liquid smoke resulted in increased browning, likely due to the Maillard reaction occurring when glucose and chitosan were mixed with liquid smoke and then sterilized using an autoclave. This condition was expected to be favorable as it involves a reaction between free amino acids in chitosan and reducing sugar compounds from glucose. Additionally, aldehyde ketone compounds are found in Cocos nucifera coconut shell liquid smoke. Finally, the optimal concentration for antioxidant activity was treatment A2 (total concentration of 1% chitosan + 1% glucose + 3% coconut shell liquid smoke) with an IC50 value of 6.69% and a brown absorbance of 0.45%.

Abstract

Water quality is a key factor in the cultivation of snakehead fish (Channa striata) because it can influence the level of physiological stress that impacts the health and growth of the fish. Three cultivation systems commonly used to manage water quality sustainably are the green water system, biofloc, and aquaponics. All three have different approaches to recycling waste and maintaining the balance of the cultivation environment. This study aims to compare the effectiveness of the three systems in maintaining water quality and reducing physiological stress in snakehead fish. The method used was a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with three treatments and three replications. The parameters observed included levels of ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, dissolved oxygen (DO), and blood glucose levels as an indicator of stress. The results showed that the biofloc system produced the lowest blood glucose level (54 mg/dL), as well as the lowest nitrite and nitrate concentrations compared to the other treatments. Meanwhile, the biofloc system green water produces ammonia and dissolved oxygen (DO) levels, but biofloc is the most stable in maintaining water quality and the health of snakehead fish.

Abstract

Snakehead fish cultivation in South Sumatra were still relatively small, but the market demand for snakehead fish were quite a lot to be used as a processed material or for treatment. Cultivating snakehead fish, the obstacles faced are ammonia waste (from leftover feed and feces) causing death in cultivated fish. Application of aquaculture technology systems that can minimize ammonia waste, namely the Green Water System, Biofloc, and Aquaponic. These three systems have the ability to absorb ammonia bicarbonate contained in snakehead fish farming waste. The purpose of this research is to find the best aquaculture system in reducing nitrogen waste and producing the highest snakehead fish productivity. This research used a completely randomized design (CRD) with 3 treatments and 3 replications, namely green water system (GWS), biofloc technology (BFT), and aquaponics (AP). The fish used were snakehead fish (Channa striata) measuring 7±05 cm, which was reared for 60 days, the test plant used in aquaponics was pakcoy, while the green water system used spirulina. Water quality data were analyzed descriptively using tables and pictures. Production performance data were analyzed for variance (ANOVA) with a 95% confidence interval. If the results are significantly different, then a further test is carried out using the Tukey test. The results obtained in this study included all treatments capable of creating optimal water quality in the form of ammonia, nitrite and nitrate for snakehead fish, and the GWS treatment produced the lowest ammonia, nitrite and nitrate values. The survival resulted in all treatments above 80%, with the best growth in weight and length obtained in the BFT treatment. The best feed conversion ratio was also produced by the BFT treatment by suppressing the lowest RKP value
