Abstract

This study was conducted in tidal lowland at Banyu Urip Village, Tanjung Lago District, Banyuasin Region, South Sumatera. Samples were collected two times. The water sample was collected during high tide in primary, secondary, and tertiary canals. The result showed the seasonal variation of physical and chemical water parameters such as temperature 27 – 30 ºC, pH 3 – 5, DO 3.7 – 4.5 mg/l, phosphate 0.01 – 0.02 mg/l, TSS 108 – 232 mg/l, and EC 11 – 107 µmhos/cm. This study also identified 10 classes and 10 genera of phytoplankton. It has potential as a natural food source. The result revealed that physical and chemical water quality parameters were still suitable for aquaculture based on Government regulation of Republic Indonesia number 82 year 2001 about water criteria class III for fisheries. Meanwhile, the great challenge of tidal lowland for fishery management is low pH. Therefore, pre-treatment to increase pH before fish rearing is required.

Abstract

Catfish is a fish that is currently in great demand among Indonesian people. Catfish are nocturnal fish that are active at night and are also omnivorous or eat everything. Catfish is a fish that can consume food from plants such as vegetables and trash fish as well as other food ingredients, one of which is chicken manure. The nutritional content of chicken manure can be substituted in making catfish feed so that the use of chicken manure for fish feed can be done. In this study, 4 treatments were made with 3 repetitions, namely A1 (control), A2 (10%), A3 (15%) and A4 (20%). The highest protein content was obtained in treatment A4 (20%) with a value of 32.40%. The best daily growth results were obtained in treatment A2 (10%) which was 3.80 cm and was the highest value compared to the daily growth value in the control. The best survival rate results were obtained in treatment A3 (15%), namely 99.33%. The best feed efficiency was obtained in treatment A2 (10%), namely 97.70% and the highest survival value was obtained in this treatment. From the results of the research that has been carried out, it was found that the best treatment is the use of chicken manure in treatment A2, namely the use of 10% manure in additional feed for catfish farming fish, so that the use of 10% chicken manure in 1 kg of feed can increase growth and feed efficiency in fish farming catfish.

Abstract

Water quality is a key factor in the cultivation of snakehead fish (Channa striata) because it can influence the level of physiological stress that impacts the health and growth of the fish. Three cultivation systems commonly used to manage water quality sustainably are the green water system, biofloc, and aquaponics. All three have different approaches to recycling waste and maintaining the balance of the cultivation environment. This study aims to compare the effectiveness of the three systems in maintaining water quality and reducing physiological stress in snakehead fish. The method used was a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with three treatments and three replications. The parameters observed included levels of ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, dissolved oxygen (DO), and blood glucose levels as an indicator of stress. The results showed that the biofloc system produced the lowest blood glucose level (54 mg/dL), as well as the lowest nitrite and nitrate concentrations compared to the other treatments. Meanwhile, the biofloc system green water produces ammonia and dissolved oxygen (DO) levels, but biofloc is the most stable in maintaining water quality and the health of snakehead fish.

Abstract

Snakehead fish cultivation in South Sumatra were still relatively small, but the market demand for snakehead fish were quite a lot to be used as a processed material or for treatment. Cultivating snakehead fish, the obstacles faced are ammonia waste (from leftover feed and feces) causing death in cultivated fish. Application of aquaculture technology systems that can minimize ammonia waste, namely the Green Water System, Biofloc, and Aquaponic. These three systems have the ability to absorb ammonia bicarbonate contained in snakehead fish farming waste. The purpose of this research is to find the best aquaculture system in reducing nitrogen waste and producing the highest snakehead fish productivity. This research used a completely randomized design (CRD) with 3 treatments and 3 replications, namely green water system (GWS), biofloc technology (BFT), and aquaponics (AP). The fish used were snakehead fish (Channa striata) measuring 7±05 cm, which was reared for 60 days, the test plant used in aquaponics was pakcoy, while the green water system used spirulina. Water quality data were analyzed descriptively using tables and pictures. Production performance data were analyzed for variance (ANOVA) with a 95% confidence interval. If the results are significantly different, then a further test is carried out using the Tukey test. The results obtained in this study included all treatments capable of creating optimal water quality in the form of ammonia, nitrite and nitrate for snakehead fish, and the GWS treatment produced the lowest ammonia, nitrite and nitrate values. The survival resulted in all treatments above 80%, with the best growth in weight and length obtained in the BFT treatment. The best feed conversion ratio was also produced by the BFT treatment by suppressing the lowest RKP value

Abstract

Snakehead (Channa striata) is a type of fish that has potential to be developed. In some areas in Indonesia, especially South Sumatra, this fish is a raw material for making local food which is in very high demand. However, the process of cultivating snakehead often experiences several obstacles that make it difficult for this fish to develop, one of which is the availability of feed. So that alternative feed ingredients are needed for the manufacture of feed so that it can reduce the cost of fish farming production. This study aims to determine the best percentage of Indigofera zollingerina substitution on the growth of snakehead (Channa striata). The research design used a completely randomized design (CRD) method with 4 treatments of fish meal substitution with Indigofera zollingerina 0%, 15%, 30% and 45%. Protein substitution of Indigofera zollingerina with different was best at 30% treatment and gave significantly different results on absolute weight growth and fish body length growth. However, it has no significant effect on the survival of snakehead. The best results were on absolute weight growth of 0.45 g, growth of snakehead body length of 4.77 cm and survival of snakehead of 98.89%.
