Abstract

Glaucoma is a progressive optic neuropathy that can lead to irreversible blindness, where intraocular pressure (IOP) serves as the only modifiable risk factor for disease control. Among the various treatment modalities, laser trabeculoplasty, especially Selective Laser Trabeculoplasty (SLT), has gained popularity as it improves aqueous humor outflow and reduces IOP. This review combines recent studies comparing SLT with other modalities such as Micropulse Laser Trabeculoplasty (MLT) and their clinical outcomes. The purpose of thisliterature review is to highlight the efficacy of Selective Laser Trabeculoplasty (SLT) in managing intraocular pressure (IOP)in glaucoma patients, especially primary open angle glaucoma (POAG), both as first-line therapy and as adjunctive therapy. Literature sources were selected through an internet search using articles in research journal databases on Google Scholar and Pubmed and 30 literatures were selected from these methods. The literature revealed that SLT, as a first-line therapy or adjunct to medical treatment, effectively lowers IOP and can be repeated safely with continued efficacy. In addition, SLT offers an alternative for patients who are unresponsive to topical treatment, providing a non-invasive optionthat may eliminate the need for surgery. This review also examines the role of SLT in long-term glaucoma management, its comparison with newer techniques, and the effectiveness of repeated treatments in maintaining IOP control. Further studies are recommended to validate the long-term outcomes of SLT, especially for various applications and its comparison with newer laser therapies.

Abstract

Educational changes present significant challenges and opportunities for organizations to grow and develop in response to evolving demands. These changes become opportunities when accompanied by appropriate behaviors at both individual and organizational levels. This study aims to examine the impact of transformational leadership on innovative behavior based on previous studies. A meta-analysis method was employed to analyze research data using Comprehensive Meta-Analysis (CMA) software. The findings indicate that 89% of studies meeting the inclusion criteria reported a significant effect size. The placement of square boxes in the forest plot, which do not align in a straight line, suggests variation in the results among these studies. Furthermore, the average effect size of 0.338 represents the overall influence of transformational leadership on the innovative behavior of teachers or lecturers. The heterogeneity test of effect size confirms that the estimation model applied follows a random-effects model. The highest average effects were observed in five categories: international teachers (ES = 0.55), junior high school teachers (ES = 0.39), senior high school teachers (ES = 0.32), lecturers (ES = 0.30), and elementary school teachers (ES = 0.16).).

Abstract

Artificial intelligence (AI) has come a long way since its introduction in the 1950s. In the past few decades, especially with the advent of machine learning (ML) and deep learning (DL), AI has been able to analyze complex data, learn independently, and have made a major impact on the medical field. Ophthalmology has been one of the major beneficiaries of this technology, thanks to its integration with digital techniques such as Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT), fundus photography, and visual field testing. This study was conducted through a comprehensive literature review using major databases, such as PubMed, Scopus, and Google Scholar. Inclusion criteria included publications in the last five years that were relevant to innovations in AI-based diagnostics and management of eye diseases. A total of 25 journals were selected for analysis, providing insight into the current trends in AI applications for ophthalmology. We found that AI has provided efficiencies in the diagnosis, treatment, and management of eye diseases, as well as expanded access to healthcare through telemedicine. However, challenges such as data validation and algorithm standardization require attention. Through cross-disciplinary collaboration and further development, AI has the potential to revolutionize ophthalmology services to be more inclusive and affordable.

Abstract

Dry eye disease (DED) or dry eye disease is a common condition in every country. Dry eyes can cause symptoms such as discomfort or a cycling sensation, red eyes and a feeling of blockage. Inflammation is one of the underlying pathophysiology of dry eyes. One of the therapeutic approaches that has received major attention is the use of omega-3 fatty acid supplements, which are known to have anti-inflammatory properties and can support eye health. Recent studies have shown that omega-3, especially EPA (eicosapentaenoic acid) and DHA (docosahexaenoic acid), can improve tear quality, improve meibomian gland function, and increase tear production in people with dry eyes. In addition, omega-3 also plays a role in reducing symptoms of dry eyes, although several studies have shown significant results, but the effectiveness of omega-3 in managing dry eyes still requires further research, especially in determining the optimal dose and duration of therapy. This literature review aims to review the latest developments related to the role of omega-3 in dry eye therapy and explore the underlying effects of omega-3 on dry eyes. Further research is expected to provide stronger evidence regarding the role of omega-3 in dry eye therapy.

Abstract

Patient safety culture plays a vital role in improving the quality of health services, especially in the Neonatal and Pediatric Intensive Care Unit that serves critically ill patients. Evaluation of patient safety culture in NICU and PICU nurses at RSUD X is essential to understand the extent of compliance and challenges in its implementation. This study analyzed patient safety culture in the NICU and PICU of RSUD X from the perspective of nurses using the Hospital Survey on Patient Safety Culture (HSOPSC) version 2.0, developed by the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ). This study used a descriptive cross-sectional design involving 52 nurses. Data were collected by filling out the HSOPSC AHRQ 2.0 questionnaire, which consisted of 12 composites that described different aspects of patient safety culture. The HSOPSC 2.0 (AHRQ) instrument was used because its validity and reliability have been tested in measuring patient safety culture globally. The data were analyzed descriptively to identify the dimensions with the highest and lowest values. The survey results suggested that the patient safety culture in nurses working in the NICU and PICU had several strong aspects, including teamwork (77.54%), communication about errors (72.43%), and managerial support (71.15%). However, other elements must be considered more intensively, which are responses to errors (56.24%) and staffing (42.9%). Although the patient safety culture in the NICU and PICU of RSUD X has proven good in some aspects, improvement in incident reporting and workload management is required.
