Abstract

This article aims to figure out Indonesian commentators perspectives on the position of women in the domestic and public sphere. This research comes from the question; Has the patriarchal identity that existed in Indonesia influenced Indonesian commentators perspectives in interpreting the Koran?  And what is Indonesian commentators perspective on women’s leadership in the public sphere? With the literary method and critical analysis of their works, tafsīr al-Misbah, Tafsīr al-Azhar, and Tafsīr Marāh} Labīd, this research resulted in the following findings and conclusions. First, in essence, the three Indonesian commentators did not give permission to women to become leaders in the household, even they have different reasons. Nawāwī al-Bantānī considers men to be leaders for their wives, because men has the potential to educate them, has intellectual and physical strength. Hamka gave consideration to Indonesian traditions and culture. Meanwhile, Quraish Shihab argues that a man is the leader over his wife because of the psychological and character considerations of men who are more assertive. Second, regarding women’s leadership in the public sphere, Quraish Shihab and Hamka allow women to become leaders for men as long as they have sufficient criteria. Meanwhile al-Nawāwī did not provide a clear explanation of the status of women’s leadership in the public sphere. The findings in this study also confirm that, in addressing the problem of women, the Indonesian commentators has a paradigm shift from time to time, this is due to sociological factors and conditions surrounding the interpreter.

Abstract

Social morality plays a central role in shaping a harmonious, civilised, and inclusive society. This article aims to examine how social moral values are understood and developed through Bisri Mustofa's Tafsir Al-Ibriz and how it is relevant to improving the quality of moral education in Indonesia. Tafsir Al-Ibriz was selected due to its closeness to local culture and its practical approach in grounding the teachings of the Qur'an. The research method employed is qualitative literature review using content analysis. The results of this study are expected to provide conceptual and practical contributions in integrating Islamic-based social moral values into the national education system, in order to create a generation that is character-building, tolerant, and competitive. This article examines in depth the social moral interpretation in Bisri Mustofa's Tafsir Al-Ibriz of several verses of the Qur'an, namely QS. Al-Ahzab verses 70–71, QS. An-Nisa’ verse 135, and QS. Al-Hujurat verse 11. The results of the study indicate that Bisri Mustofa emphasises three main values: taqwa, justice, and tolerance. Taqwa is understood as active awareness in every action, justice as a universal principle that must be upheld even if it conflicts with personal interests, and tolerance as a crucial foundation for building healthy and mutually respectful social relationships.

Abstract

Islamic boarding school education plays a strategic role in shaping students who are intellectually superior and spiritually mature, but in practice, learning the Qur'an is often faced with the problem of declining enthusiasm and motivation for students to learn. This PKM research aims to examine the effectiveness of internalizing Sufism values in learning the Qur'an through the study of the book Nurul Burhan as an effort to strengthen the enthusiasm for learning of students in Islamic boarding schools. The method used is descriptive qualitative research with a phenomenological-reflective approach, which relies on participatory observation, students' verbal reflections, activity documentation, and literature reviews as primary and secondary data sources. The results of the discussion indicate that the integration of Sufi values such as sincerity, patience, worship orientation, and purification of the soul in the study of the Qur'an is able to shift the learning patterns of students from mere routine memorization to learning that is spiritually meaningful. The research findings indicate an increase in intrinsic motivation of students characterized by enthusiasm for learning, reflective involvement, and the awareness that learning the Qur'an is part of a spiritual journey to get closer to God. The implications of this research indicate that a learning model based on the internalization of Sufi values has the potential to be a relevant pedagogical alternative for Islamic boarding schools in developing holistic, value-oriented, and sustainable Qur'an learning.

Abstract

Al-Qur'an learning at Madrasah Diniyah Al Abror faces challenges in the form of a gap between the demands of the final tashih exam and the students' suboptimal level of tajwid mastery. This study aims to analyze the role of guidance and guidance in learning the Qur'an with tajwid in improving the quality of reading and the readiness of students to face the final tashih exam. The study uses a descriptive qualitative method with a participatory approach, where researchers are directly involved in the mentoring process through observation, interviews, and documentation of learning activities based on the Tartila method with a talaqqi and musyafahah approach. The results of the study indicate that structured mentoring through the development of contextual modules, teacher training, and intensive mentoring in small halaqah (Islamic circle) significantly improved students' understanding and pronunciation of tajweed, as demonstrated by improved pre- and post-mentoring evaluation results. The main findings of this study revealed that tajweed learning that emphasizes direct practice, repetition, and habituation is more effective than a purely theoretical approach. The implications of this study indicate that the Tartila-based tajweed mentoring model can be an alternative for applicable, sustainable, and relevant Qur'anic guidance to be integrated into the Madrasah Diniyah curriculum and replicated in other Islamic educational institutions.
