Abstract

This study scrutinizes fathers' involvement in children's English learning at home. Employing a case study, this study involved four fathers aged between 31 and 45. The data were collected using in-depth interviews. The findings of the study indicate that there are several inhibiting and supporting factors for parenting self-efficacy (PSE). These factors include support and communication with partners, child characteristics, media influence, knowledge and education, culture and social values, and workload. In addition, PSE contributes to fathers' involvement in English learning at home. PSE can also be a protective factor from various obstacles and resource limitations. Fathers with high PSE can turn challenges into opportunities. This study also reveals that fathers' involvement efforts still need to be improved so that family functioning will be more optimal.

Abstract

This study aimed to examine the effectiveness of psychoeducation in enhancing parents’ understanding and skills in supporting early childhood reading development. The phenomenon underlying this research is the tendency of parents to demand that children be able to read prematurely, without considering the developmental stages of literacy. Such pressure often causes psychological stress for children and may hinder their long-term interest in reading. The participants of this study were parents of students at TK 'Aisyiyah G. The research employed a quasi-experimental method, with the intervention consisting of a psychoeducational program delivered in several sessions covering topics such as understanding early childhood, government policies on early childhood education, children’s psychological development, and strategies to foster reading interest and skills in young children. Data analysis revealed a significant increase in parents’ knowledge and attitudes after the psychoeducation, with the mean score rising from 46.53 (pre-test) to 54.31 (post-test), a difference of 7.78 points, and an effect size of r = 0.80. These findings demonstrate that psychoeducation effectively empowers parents to foster early literacy interest in their children. The study recommends integrating psychoeducational programs into community- and faith-based early childhood education curricula.

Abstract

Indonesia is a nation marked by extensive diversity encompassing a myriad of languages, ethnicities, and religious affiliations. While some studies support the positive implications associated with this diversity, others argue that it harbors the potential for social discord, particularly within distinct religious communities. This research aims to scrutinize the dynamics of mature religious sentiment and Islamic knowledge concerning Muslim-Christian relations, specifically exploring their impact on social prejudice among Muslim students, who constitute the majority and hold prejudicial views towards Christians. The investigation was conducted among Muslim students aged 18-22 in Yogyakarta, Indonesia (N = 254). Employing the structural equation model (SEM) technique for analysis, the findings reveal that mature religious sentiment exerts a direct influence on social prejudice, both independently and mediated through the agreeableness trait. Additionally, Islamic knowledge pertaining to the Muslim-Christian relationship directly influences social prejudice without the intermediary of agreeableness.
