Abstract

Background: Diabetes Mellitus (DM) is a global health issue causing nerve damage, blood vessel damage, and leg impairment. Foot exercises can improve risk factors for diabetic foot ulcers, neuropathy symptoms, pressure distribution, joint mobility, and strength in individuals with diabetes. Purpose: This study aimed to determine the effect of 12-weeks foot exercise on blood glucose levels, ABI values, and sensation of protection in diabetes mellitus patients West Java, Indonesia. Methods: The sample in this study was individuals aged 18 or above with a confirmed diagnosis of diabetes mellitus. A 154 patients willingly volunteered to participate and were subsequently enrolled in the study (77 in intervention group and 77 in control group).  The study encompassed participants who engaged in a twelve-week regimen of foot exercises utilizing teaching modules and video materials. The study employed several tools, namely a glucometer, a glucometer stick, Ankle Brachial Index value, and a questionnaire. A bivariate analysis using the paired t-test and ANCOVA was conducted using IBM SPSS Statistics version 22.0. Results: In intervention group, random blood glucose was decreased significantly from 237.5 ± 9.56 at baseline to 188.0 ±6 9.19 after intervention (p=0.002). Sensation of protection as measure by the number of areas with loss sensation was improve from 5.21 ± 1.03 at baseline to 3.42 ± 1.21 after intervention (p=0.001). While, no significant improvement in ankle-brachial index after intervention (p=0.413). The ANCOVA test showed that between group, sensation of protection was significantly different in intervention group compare to control group (ß =0.413, p-value=0.038). Conclusions: The study found that a 12-week foot exercise program significantly improves blood glucose and sensation protection, but not ankle-brachial index. Further research is needed with a more rigorous study design and larger sample size.

Abstract

Indonesia is a country located at the confluence of the world's three tectonic plates, making a number of areas directly adjacent to the zone highly vulnerable to earthquake and tsunami disasters. Preparedness is a series of activities carried out to anticipate disasters. There are several factors that influence community preparedness, namely social cohesion and attitude. Objective: The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of social cohesion and attitudes on community preparedness for tsunami disasters. Methods: Type of correlational research with a cross sectional approach. The population was all people in Kedusunan Sawah Garung, Loji Village, Simpenan Subdistrict with a sample of 300, using proportional random sampling technique. Data collection techniques using questionnaires. Data analysis using simple linear regression and multiple linear regression. Results: The results showed that there was an influence of social cohesion (p=0.000) and attitude (p=0.000) on community preparedness. There is a simultaneous influence of social cohesion (p=0.000) and attitude (p=0.002) on community preparedness. Conclusion: social cohesion and attitudes towards community preparedness. It is expected that Loji Village and BPBD Sukabumi Regency can improve community preparedness through activities such as training, seminars, workshops related to natural disasters, especially tsunami disasters.

Abstract

Breast cancer is the most common type of cancer in women and the leading cause of cancer death. In Indonesia, there were 65,858 new cases with 22,430 deaths, and a prevalence of 148.11 per 100,000. Chemotherapy is one of the popular therapy options among the public. Chemotherapy can lead to psychological impacts, such as stress, anxiety, and depression in breast cancer patients. Objective: This study aims to analyze the factors that influence anxiety in breast cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy at the Chemotherapy Poly of Bogor City Hospital. Methods: This cross-sectional study involved 87 breast cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy at the Chemotherapy Clinic of Bogor City Hospital who were selected using accidental sampling. Data were collected through a validated structured questionnaire, including anxiety felt by breast cancer patients which refers to the standardized questionnaire, namely the Zung Selfrating Anxiety Scale (ZSAS). Data were analyzed using chi-square test and logistic regression to identify the relationship between variables. Results: The results of the analysis showed a significant relationship between age (p = 0.000 OR = 14.625), education (p = 0.022, OR = 3.506), length of suffering (p = 0.000, OR = 0.208), and frequency of chemotherapy (p = 0.021, OR = 0.357) with anxiety of breast cancer patients. The most dominant variable associated with anxiety of breast cancer patients is age (OR = 35.934). Conclusion: Age, education, duration of breast cancer, and frequency of chemotherapy play an important role in influencing the anxiety of breast cancer patients.
