Abstract

In 2015 and 2019, the Central Kahayan Forest Management Unit (FMU) experienced forest fires on peatlands that had significant impacts on ecological, economic, and social aspects. Consequently, it is imperative to devise a comprehensive strategy aimed at the enhancement of a susceptibility map for forest and land fires. This research endeavor seeks to construct a detailed framework that assesses the susceptibility of forested areas and land to fire incidents inside of the Kahayan Central Forest Management Unit (FMU). The frameworking procedure will employ an integrated approach that synergizes the Analytical Hierarchy procedure (AHP) by Geographic Information System (GIS) technologies to achieve a more robust analysis of fire susceptibility. The outcomes showed that there are three classes of forest and land fire susceptibility, namely the unsusceptible class covering 152,760 hectares (41%), the moderately susceptible class covering 150,171 hectares (40%), and the very susceptible class covering 72,585 hectares (19%). The outcomes of this research are anticipated to provide a foundational framework for the effective management and mitigation of forest and land fires inside of the Central Kahayan Forest Management Unit (FMU), thereby aiming to alleviate the adverse impacts associated by such incidents.

Abstract

Pulang Pisau Regency faces significant pressure from human activities that threaten the sustainability of its forests. The phenomenon of deforestation and land conversion is important for understanding the dynamics of land cover change. Social forestry programs potentially contribute to reducing the rate of change in forest cover. This study aims to analyze land cover change on the Indicative Social Forestry Map (PIAPS) in Pulang Pisau Regency. The research method used Landsat-7 images recorded in 2000 and Landsat-8 images recorded in 2020, PIAPS data, and land cover classification using the Random Forest model with Quantum GIS and Google Earth Engine (GEE) software. The research shows that there has been a significant land cover change over a decade in the Indicative Map of Social Forestry in Pulang Pisau District. Forest cover has decreased from 41,149 ha in 2000 to 23,836 ha in 2020. The average accuracy of land cover showed an OA value of 95% and KA of 92%, which is categorized as good. This study thus highlights the importance of maintaining forest cover to address future land change dynamics through social forestry scheme programs

Abstract

The productivity of ruminant livestock is closely correlated with the continuous availability of forage, both in quality and quantity, making its availability crucial. On the other hand, the use of drone technology to support efforts in agriculture and forestry is also very important to be socialized to the community. Therefore, training is the right solution to achieve this, enabling the dissemination of knowledge about the utilization of indigofera as livestock feed and the use of drones. The aim of this service is to train students on indigofera cultivation techniques and how to use drones in the fields of agriculture and forestry. The service is conducted at Senior High School 1 Jabiren Raya, Jabiren Raya Sub-District, Pulang Pisau District, Central Kalimantan Province, using a training method, with 40 students participating. It will be held on February 18, 2025, with several stages of preparation and implementation. Activities were conducted at two locations, the first in the Auditorium with a theoretical presentation, and the second on the grounds of SMAN 1 Jabiren Raya, which served as a practical site for cultivation and drone operation. The results of the community service activities indicate that the training on indigofera cultivation techniques and the introduction of drone usage in agriculture and forestry showed a significant difference in knowledge before and after the training. In conclusion, the comparison of understanding before and after the training was 27% compared to 90%.

Abstract

Sebangau National Park, a peatland conservation area, is particularly vulnerable to forest fires. These conflagrations are most prevalent during the dry season. The objective of this research is to detect and analyze burned areas in Sebangau National Park using the Google Earth Engine (GEE) platform. The analysis will utilize Landsat 8 satellite imagery from 2015. The methods employed for detecting areas that have undergone combustion include the utilization of Normalized Burn Ratio (NBR) and Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI) indices. The analysis reveals that the burned area, as determined by the NBR index, encompasses 27,567.92 hectares. When assessed using NDVI, the burned area increases to 35,163.44 hectares. The accuracy assessment reveals that the NDVI index exhibits an Overall Accuracy (OA) value of 97.71% and Kappa Accuracy (KA) of 81.46%, which exceeds the NBR by 0.07% and 1.24%, respectively. This finding highlights the enhanced precision of NDVI in detecting vegetation changes resulting from fire events. Consequently, NDVI can serve as a crucial reference point in post-fire mitigation and rehabilitation efforts within peat conservation areas.
