Abstract

Background: Advancing age is often accompanied by physical decline in the elderly, including impaired balance. One of the most serious consequences of this impairment is the risk of falling. Diabetes mellitus is suspected to be a contributing factor to postural imbalance in older adults.Objective: This study aims to analyze postural balance among elderly individuals with diabetes mellitus at the Geriatric Polyclinic, Level II Udayana Hospital.Method: This quantitative study employed a cross-sectional design and involved 94 elderly patients diagnosed with diabetes mellitus at the Geriatric Polyclinic of Level II Udayana Hospital, Denpasar. Data were collected through direct observation using the Berg Balance Scale to assess postural balance. Descriptive univariate analysis was used for data interpretation.Results: Demographically, 68 respondents (72.34%) were aged 60–74, 54 (57.45%) were male, and 38 (40.42%) had completed senior high school. A majority, 62 respondents (65.96%), had lived with diabetes for more than five years. In terms of balance, 60 respondents (63.83%) were classified as independent, while 32 (34.04%) required walking assistance. The mean Berg Balance Scale score was 31.3, indicating the need for walking assistance.Conclusion: Elderly individuals with diabetes mellitus are at increased risk of postural imbalance due to aging and disease-related factors. These findings highlight the importance of early detection and may inform the development of targeted fall-prevention interventions for this population. Keywords: Elderly; Postural Balance; Diabetes Mellitus; Postural Imbalance; Berg Balance Scale.

Abstract

Psychiatric disorders are common among pregnant women to postpartum, but they are often undiagnosed and untreated. One of the disorders is postpartum depression. The results of interviews with healthcare workers in the Obstetrics Polyclinic indicate that psychological assessments for postpartum patients have not yet been conducted. Based on this, a socialization and implementation activity was carried out for healthcare workers regarding the completion of the Edinburgh Postpartum Depression Scale (EPDS) with the aim of increasing healthcare workers' knowledge about the EPDS and preventing the occurrence of postpartum depression in mothers. The implementation of community service activities through health education on conducting assessments using the EPDS by healthcare workers. After the evaluation, it was found that there was an increase in the knowledge of healthcare workers about the use of EPDS, from a highest score of 73 on the pretest to 100 on the posttest. The socialization about EPDS has successfully increased the knowledge of healthcare workers in the working area of RS TK II Udayana. This is certainly beneficial for the prevention of further complications of depression. The assessment of postpartum depression is one form of positive support for healthcare workers who do not yet understand how to conduct an assessment of postpartum depression. After healthcare workers are able to conduct the assessment, this activity can be implemented regularly as a form of professionalism among healthcare workers to improve nursing services for postpartum mothers.

Abstract

Anemia pada ibu hamil merupakan masalah kesehatan yang menimbulkan komplikasi serius seperti kelahiran prematur, Bayi Berat Lahir Rendah (BBLR), perdarahan saat persalinan, hingga kematian. Kondisi ini disebabkan oleh kekurangan zat besi dan asam folat, serta dipengaruhi faktor usia, paritas, pendidikan, ekonomi, dan rendahnya pemahaman tentang risiko anemia. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengidentifikasi faktor-faktor resiko terjadinya anemia pada ibu hamil yang merujuk pasa usia, kunjungan Antenatal Care, konsumsi tabet FE ibu, paritas, tingkat pendidikan, tingkat ekonomi di Puskesmas 2 Tampaksiring. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode deskriptif. Populasi penelitian ini adalah 74 ibu hamil dengan anemia di Puskesmas 2 Tampaksiring, dan jumlah sampel sebanyak 70 orang. Teknik pengambilan sampel menggunakan probability sampling dengan teknik total sampling. Hasil penelitian gambaran faktor resiko terjadinya anemia pada ibu hamil di puskesmas 2 tampaksiring dengan jumlah 70 orang responden menunjukkan kunjungan kehamilan sebagian besar tidak patuh (< 6 kali) , konsumsi tablet Fe sebagian besar tidak patuh (<90 tablet), paritas sebagian besar tidak berisiko (<3x).

Abstract

Mental-emotional disorder in older adults may arise as a result of stress that is not adequately managed. This study analyzes the correlation between stress and mental-emotional disorders in older people at the Geriatric Polyclinic of Udayana Level II Hospital, Denpasar. It used a quantitative method with a cross-sectional approach. The population consisted of 337 older adult patients receiving treatment at the Geriatric Polyclinic of Udayana Level II Hospital, with a sample size of 183 individuals. The sampling technique was purposive sampling. The Perceived Stress Scale (PSS-10) was an instrument to measure stress, and the Self Rating Questionnaire (SRQ-20) for mental-emotional disorders. The univariate analysis described the characteristics of the respondents, and the bivariate analysis evaluated the correlation between both variables using Spearman's rank correlation. Almost half of the respondents were 65-74 years old, 78 respondents (42.6%). Half of them were female, 99 respondents (54%). In addition, 62 or 33.88% of respondents graduated from a Senior High School. Most respondents experienced a moderate stress level of 134 respondents (88.5%) and mental-emotional disorders of 158 respondents (86.3%). Most respondents with moderate stress levels experienced mental-emotional disorder (66.12%). The Spearman's Rank Correlation obtained p=0.036 (p<0.05), indicating a significant correlation between stress levels and mental-emotional disorder in older people. Stress levels correlate with mental and emotional disorders in older people at the Geriatric Polyclinic of Udayana Level II Hospital, Denpasar. Efforts to recognize stress early, especially in older adults, are essential.

Abstract

Background: Postpartum depression has become a common condition that is often unnoticed in its onset. Postpartum depression can become more severe if not detected and managed adequately.Objective: This study aims to identify postpartum depression using the Edinburgh Postnatal Depression Scale (EPDS) at RS Tk II Udayana.Method: The research design uses a quantitative approach, specifically descriptive with a cross-sectional approach. The sample of this study consisted of 30 respondents selected using the accidental sampling technique. Data analysis was conducted using descriptive analysis.Results: The results of the descriptive test found that the education level was high school for 20 people (66.7%), in early adulthood for 26 people (86.7%), gravida 1 for 14 people (46.7%), and housewives for 15 people (50%). The identification of postpartum depression found that the majority of postpartum mothers respondents experienced mild depression, with 28 individuals (93.3%) and 2 individuals (6.7%) experiencing moderate depression.Conclusion: The conclusion of this study is that almost all respondents experienced mild depression. The research results indicate that almost all postpartum mothers are at risk of experiencing more severe depression if early detection and further intervention are not carried out.
