Abstract

Coral reefs are a unique ecosystem of tropical waters that have physical function as a beach protector with its nature that can reduce the energy of waves moving towards the coast. Coral reef ecosystems are a good places for spawning, nurturing and food sources for fish. The aim of this research was to determine the density of zooxanthella on coral Acropora sp based on different depths. The method that used in this research was a survey method by taking coral samples using purposive sampling technique, then the samples were analyzed and the data was discussed descriptively at the Marine Biology Laboratory, Faculty of Fisheries and Marine, Riau University. The results of this research on the waters of Talam Island obtained a brightness up to 100% of depth, a current velocity was 0.05–0.10 m/s, temperature ranging from 30-32 0C, salinity of 34 o/oo and pH ranging from 7.2–7.6. The corals that used as research objects for zooxanthella density were taken at a depth of 3 m, 5 m, and 7 m, namely the coral Acropora sp. The results showed that the average zooxanthella density on Acropora sp coral at a depth of 3 meters was 6.35x106 cells/cm2, a depth of 5 meters was 2.63x106 cells/cm2, and 1.95x106 cells/cm2 at a depth of 7 meters. Based on observations, the density zooxanthella was decreased by increasing depth.

Abstract

This research was conducted in March 2022 in the waters of Talam Island, Central Tapanuli Regency, North Sumatra Province. This study aims to determine the relationship between coral cover and the density of megabenthos in the Talam Island area. The method used in this research is a survey method. Coral cover data were collected using the LIT (Line Intercept Transect) method and megabenthos data were collected using the BBT (Benthos Belt Transect) method. Observations were made at three station points with each station with a depth of 4 meters, 6 meters and 8 meters. The results showed that Talam Island had a good percentage of coral cover with an average of 54.74%. The highest density of megabenthos was Tridacninae found at each station, while the lowest density was Acanthaster planci. The overall megabenthos density has an average of 10.033 ind/ha. Coral reef cover relationship has an influence on the density of megabenthos, there is a strong positive effect on economic megabenthos and a strong negative on non-economic megabenthos.

Abstract

This research was conducted in March 2022 in the waters of Talam Island, Central Tapanuli Regency, North Sumatera Province. This study aims to determine the condition of coral reef cover, abundance of reef fish family pomacentridae and the relationship between live coral cover and abundance of coral fish family pomacentridae in the waters of Talam Island. Coral reef cover data collection was carried out using the LIT (Line Intercept Transect) method, with a transect length of 50 meters and data collection for coral fish family pomacentridae using the UVC (Underwater Visual Cencus) method, with a transect length of 50 meters and a visibility limit of 2.5 meters to right and 2.5 meters to the left. Observations were made at three station points, each station at a depth of 4 m, 6 m and 8 m. Data depth of 4 m is considered to represent shallow waters, 6 m depth represents medium waters and 8 m depth represents deep waters. The results of this study indicate that the average percentage of live coral reef cover in the waters of Talam Island is 54.74% in the good category and the average abundance of coral fish family Pomacentridae is 4760 ind/ha with a total of 1071 individuals and is included in the abundant category. The results of simple linear regression analysis showed a correlation coefficient of 0.937 and a coefficient of determination of 0.8787.

Abstract

The problem of waste management which is still a city problem, if the waste is not done properly it will cause problems. Uncontrolled piles of garbage due to human activities will have an impact on environmental problems such as decreasing the beauty of the city, the emergence of odors from waste decomposition, the occurrence of air pollution due to burning waste that interferes with public health and a source of disease for human health. This research was conducted in Senapelan District, Pekanbaru City from February to April 2022. The type of research is quantitative analytic with cross sectional. The population is all heads of families with a sample of 94 people with purposive sampling. The results showed that there was no influence of age, education, occupation, on community participation in residential waste management in Senapelan District, Pekanbaru City and there was an influence on infrastructure, knowledge, perception, on community participation in residential waste management in Senapelan District, Pekanbaru City. It takes a conducive environment and good infrastructure in waste management in settlements in Senapelan District, Pekanbaru City

Abstract

This research was conducted in March 2022 in the Marine Conservation Area, Tapanuli Tengah Sumatera Utara. This study aims to determine the relationship between coral cover, total suspended solid and the density of megabenthos found in the Marine Conservation Area, Tapanuli Tengah Sumatera Utara. The method used in this study is a survey method and spatial analysis tools method. Coral cover data was collected using the LIT (Line Intercept Transect) method and megabenthos data was collected using the BBT (Benthos Belt Transect) method. The results showed that Marine Conservation Area, Tapanuli Tengah, Sumatera Utara had a good percentage of coral cover. Not all types of megabenthos are present at every station, the highest density of megabenthos is Tridacninae, while the lowest density is Acanthaster planci. Then it was also found that there was an effect of the percentage of coral cover on economic and non-economic megabenthos. Total suspended solid consentration in this area was found  with an average of 8.27 mg/l. Based on the regression analysis in this study, showed that there was an effec of total suspended solid on percentage of coral cover.
