Abstract

The presence of Generation Z (Gen Z) marks a major change in society, because they are the first group to be born and raised in the digital era. Although often referred to as "digital natives" are supposed to be highly proficient in digital technology, their level of digital literacy is still a topic of debate. This generation has been widely exposed to the internet and portable digital devices, which has shaped their worldview and communication patterns. Gen Z's reliance on electronic technology has resulted in a decline in traditional activities such as reading books, which impacts a number of cognitive and socioeconomic factors including vocabulary development, attention span, academic performance, and future economic productivity. This behavioral shift not only changes Gen Z's lifestyle, but also impacts language use and the evolution of semantics. For example, the word 'dog', which previously referred to a four-legged mammal often used as a pet or guard, has experienced a shift in meaning in the Gen Z lexicon. Now, 'dog' is often used as an additional suffix in various sentences in their communications. This linguistic phenomenon reflects a broader trend of semantic decay, in which words acquire new connotations or functions in contemporary discourse. Understanding the implications of this linguistic evolution is critical for educators, policy makers, and linguists. This report highlights the importance of adapting educational and communicative strategies to meet the needs of a generation growing up digitally influenced. By studying the complex interactions between technology, language, and social norms, we can gain valuable insights into the dynamics shaping the linguistic landscape of the 21st century.

Abstract

Parents play a significant role in the language acquisition process of children with special needs. This study aims to investigate the strategies and roles that parents play in supporting the language acquisition process of children with special needs, specifically those with autism and mental retardation. The research used the descriptive qualitative technique with triangulation as the data collection method and analyzed the data using B.F. Skinner's behavioristic theory. The results indicate that children with disabilities face challenges at the morphological and syntactic levels of language acquisition. To support the language acquisition process, parents face challenges, provide appropriate treatment, and develop effective strategies. The challenges include communication, social stigma, learning consistency, limited resources, social interaction, and emotions and psychology. The resulting treatments and strategies aim to address these challenges.

Abstract

This article critically examines the marginal role of linguistics in addressing global civilizational challenges, despite the discipline’s capacity to interpret, deconstruct, and reshape human understanding across domains such as politics, culture, education, health, and the environment. Through a qualitative methodology grounded in critical discourse analysis, the study investigates why linguistic science remains underutilized in interdisciplinary strategies aimed at solving complex societal problems. Findings reveal three interrelated factors: institutional marginalization of linguistic expertise in policy design, persistent positivist biases that favor quantitative disciplines over interpretive ones, and widespread public misconceptions of linguistics as a narrow or purely theoretical field. The study also presents successful case studies—ranging from post-genocide reconciliation in Rwanda to ecological knowledge preservation in Amazonian communities and strategies to counter digital misinformation—that highlight the transformative potential of applied linguistics when substantively integrated. These examples underscore how linguistics contributes uniquely to framing narratives, decoding ideologies, and designing culturally grounded solutions. The article concludes by calling for a reimagining of interdisciplinary collaboration that positions linguistics as central—not peripheral—in knowledge production and policy formation. Ultimately, it argues that the integration of linguistic perspectives is essential for building more ethical, inclusive, and sustainable civilizational futures.

Abstract

This article critically explores the underrecognized role of linguistics in multidisciplinary research and problem-solving. In response to global challenges that are increasingly communicative, symbolic, and culturally complex—such as misinformation, climate discourse, public health crises, and digital ethics—the study argues for a reimagined “linguistic roadmap” as a central variable in cross-disciplinary inquiry. Rather than viewing language merely as a communication tool, the paper reframes linguistics as an epistemological and methodological contributor to knowledge production and societal transformation. The research employs a qualitative, exploratory-descriptive design supported by critical discourse analysis and theoretical modeling. Drawing from scholarly literature, institutional frameworks, and case studies, the study identifies patterns in which linguistic expertise is either excluded or only superficially included in multidisciplinary collaborations. The findings reveal five core functions for a redefined linguistic roadmap: discursive mapping, cognitive framing diagnostics, cultural-pragmatic interfacing, ethical reflexivity, and applied linguistic integration (e.g., NLP and corpus analysis). Three case studies—in climate change communication, intercultural medical pragmatics, and legal technology—demonstrate the practical impact of linguistics when applied at the conceptual design level. These cases show that linguistic integration enhances both ethical coherence and operational efficacy in cross-sector initiatives. The article concludes that the minimal presence of linguistics in interdisciplinary research stems from epistemological hierarchies and public misconceptions. It advocates for structural reform across research institutions, funding mechanisms, academic curricula, and linguistics departments to reposition the field as a foundational science of meaning, cognition, and interaction. Ultimately, reimagining the linguistic roadmap is not only necessary for advancing interdisciplinary research but essential for building inclusive, context-sensitive, and ethically grounded solutions to today’s most pressing global problems.

Abstract

Language serves as a manifestation of cultural values and acts as a guiding force in the trajectory of societal advancement. Consequently, language stands out as a crucial and compelling variable warranting systematic examination and scholarly scrutiny to ensure the preservation and advancement of civilization. In the Republic of Indonesia, Bahasa Indonesia stands as the official language, unifying a populace characterized by multiculturalism and ethnic diversity, in line with the ethos of the 1928 Youth Pledge Convention aimed at fostering national unity. However, there is a pressing concern regarding the waning prominence of Bahasa Indonesia. While the language remains in use, there is a noticeable trend of incorporating foreign terms into public discourse, often perceived as more prestigious. This study employs a descriptive qualitative approach, drawing upon literary sources and previous research findings. The proliferation of foreign language usage, considered more esteemed, poses a potential threat to the vitality of Bahasa Indonesia. Nevertheless, the current state of the language remains relatively secure. Bahasa Indonesia's endurance hinges on its adaptation to contemporary contexts and adherence to linguistic norms, coupled with ongoing refinement to meet the evolving needs and aspirations of society.

Abstract

The essence of a nation's identity, rooted in its traditional values and philosophy, predates its establishment as a sovereign entity. This intrinsic connection to tradition shapes the foundational principles upon which the nation is built. Indonesia, like many other countries, grapples with a multitude of challenges, often encountering complexities and distortions in crafting solutions for each unique circumstance it faces. However, there exists a belief that by drawing upon the philosophical underpinnings and traditional values inherent to its culture, Indonesia can navigate and resolve these issues effectively. Central to this approach is the recognition of the pivotal role that philosophy plays in guiding societal norms and behaviours. In particular, the adoption of religious values, such as those found in Islam, holds significant promise for grounding the populace in the timeless truths encapsulated within traditional customs. Islam, characterized by its universal nature as a religion of "rahmatan lil'alamin" (mercy to all creations), offers a comprehensive framework capable of addressing various facets of human existence. This study underscores the urgency of revitalizing community life orientations, particularly among the Batak tribe, by aligning them with the principles embodied in the Poda Na Lima philosophy. By elucidating the connections between their identity as Muslims and Bataks, individuals can imbue their societal structures and infrastructure with greater resonance and authenticity. Employing a qualitative approach rooted in critical discourse analysis, this research seeks to unravel the intricate interplay between traditional philosophy, religious teachings, and contemporary challenges. Through the examination of the Poda Na Lima framework, comprising five foundational tenets, it becomes evident that these principles hold profound wisdom and serve as guiding principles for societal conduct. Moreover, the congruence between the teachings encapsulated in Poda Na Lima and Islamic doctrine reaffirms their relevance and applicability in contemporary Indonesian society. In conclusion, this study underscores the importance of integrating traditional philosophies and religious values into the fabric of national identity and governance. By leveraging these timeless principles, nations like Indonesia can navigate the complexities of modernity while remaining grounded in their cultural heritage and fostering societal cohesion and progress.
