Abstract

Tofu industry in Lirik produce 0.9 m3 liquid waste in a day, and immeditely disposed without processing. There are two parameters in liquid waste that exceed standard value in Permen LH No.5 2014, which is TSS and pH. Electrocoagulation method used to decrease TSS and increase pH of waste. By varying pattern and range of electrode, obtained results: (1) The best electrode pattern was 2 cathode – 2 anode with TSS removal efficiency was 75%, and increase pH from 3.9 to 6.8. (2) Range of electrode 1.5 and 2.0 cm resulted the greatest TSS removal efficiency were 75% and 76.39%, but in range 2.0 cm increase of pH was only up to 6.1, while in range 1.5 cm it increased to 6.8.Keywords : electrocoagulation, TSS , pH

Abstract

Chitin is a biopolymer and can be synthesized from ebi shrimp waste through deproteination and demineralization processes. The purpose of this study was to determine the kinetics of deproteination reaction in chitin isolate with variable reaction temperature and stirring rate. The study began by reacting shrimp waste powder with 3.5% NaOH solution using a ratio of 1:10 at 75 ° C, 85 ° C and 95 ° C and 200 stirring speeds, and 250 rpm in a glass beaker equipped with stirrer. Samples were taken every 10, 20, 30, 50, 70, 90, 110 and 120 minutes as much as 40 mL, then washed until the pH was neutral and the sample filtered. The shrimp powder produced was analyzed using titration method of formol to know the protein content contained in the sample. The results showed that the reaction kinetics follows the pseudo first order equation. The higher the temperature and the speed of stirring given to the deproteination process the greater the concentration produced. The reaction speed constant at 75°C, 85°C and 95°C with 200 rpm stirring speed was obtained at k = 0.0098 min-1 to 0.0217 min-1. While at 250 rpm stirring speed k = 0.0113 min-1 to 0.0255 min-1. The optimal condition available in this study is 95oC with 250 rpm stirring speed so that it produces protein from 14.08% to 0.87%.Key words : Deproteination, chitin, reaction kinetics, ebi shrimp waste, FTIR analysis.

Abstract

The liquid waste of the tofu industry contains high organic contaminants, such as proteins and amino acids. These organic compounds causes liquid waste of tofu industry to contain high BOD, COD, and TSS so that it can pollute the environment. Therefore, tofu liquid should be removed first by electrocoagulation method. This method has the potential to purify tofu liquid waste and decrease the content of COD, BOD, TSS, and pH contained without the addition of coagulants. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of voltage and flow rate to neutralize pH, and reduce levels of COD, BOD, and TSS in tofu liquid waste. The parameters tested included COD, BOD, TSS, and pH using a pH meter. The electrocoagulation process uses electrical power that flows in the direction of the electrode. The electrocoagulation reactor was paired with a cable connected to the power supply then connected to an electric current with voltage variations (8; 10; and 12 V) and variations in flow rates ((0.439 ; 0.243 ; 0.087 L/min). The results of this study found that optimum conditions were obtained at current of 12 V and flow rate of 0.087 L/min with increasing pH from pH from 3.5 to 67, a decreas in COD of 72.17% from 1017 mg/L to 283 mg/L , a decrease in BOD of 71.53% from 513 mg/L to 146 mg/L, a decrease in TSS of 90.90% from 1100 mg/L to 100 mg/L. The results of the research obtained are in accordance with the waste water quality standards by Permen LH No.5 2014.

Abstract

The demand for natural self-care products is rising as more people recognize the value of keeping healthy skin and protecting the environment. Cooking oil, which is a derivative of palm oil, is an ingredient that is easily found by people in Batu Belah Village, Kampar Regency. This material has great potential to be processed into value-added products such as liquid soap. This study focuses on the use of cooking oil as the primary ingredient for producing liquid soap, while also opening new economic opportunities for the village community. This initiative captured the interest of Batu Belah People. In an attempt to implement the technology, the community service team distribute the liquid soap to the neighborhood.
