Abstract

The availability of a speech intelligibility test that is in accordance with Indonesian with good psychometric evidence is needed for clinical practice needs. This study aims to evaluation whether the Tes Produksi Bunyi Prasekolah (Preschool Sound Production Test) has evidence of construct validity. Seventy-eight preschool children were divided into three groups. Typical Groups I and II were children without speech sound disorder who lived in Jakarta and Padang. Group III was children with speech sound disorder. Participants in each group consisted of 26 children. Ten participants were 4 years old and 5 years old, and 6 participants were 6 years old for each group. Speech intelligibility, percentage of consonants correct, and percentage of vowels correct were assessed individually using the Preschool Speech Sound Production Test. Based on the analysis results, it was found that the speech intelligibility index in the SSD group was lower than in Typical Group I (MD = -43.9; p < .001) and Typical Group II (MD = -41.96; p < .001). Referring to the results obtained, it can be concluded that the Preschool Sound Production Test has construct validity.

Abstract

Introduction: Melodic intonation therapy (MIT) is one of the intervention strategies to improve verbal skills in non-fluent aphasia patients.Aim: To synthesize the effectiveness of MIT on naming skills and speech repetition in individuals with post-stroke non-fluent aphasia. Methods: This research has a systematic review and meta-analysis design. Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Review and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) flow diagrams were used in this study, with three associated databases (Pubmed, Gale OneFile, and CENTRAL). Four experimental articles with a randomized controlled trial (RCT) designs were included in this meta-analysis.Results: Based on the results of data synthesis, it is known that MIT significantly affects speech repetition ability (Standardized Mean Difference (SMD)=0.75; p<0.0002; 95% CI 0.36–1.15) when compared to naming ability (SMD=0.34; 95% CI -0.10–0.78).Discussion: Giving MIT for eight weeks (5 times per week, 30 minutes per day) has the most significant effect size on speech repetition ability.

Abstract

Playmate is a mat-shaped game that aims to develop emotional intelligence and accuracy of expression in children. Playmate is an educational medium because it can integrate visual and audio elements that are easily absorbed by autistic children. The problems experienced by partners are emotional and expression problems of autistic clients. Efforts made for partners are empowering parents and teachers in improving the recognition of emotions and expressions of autistic children. The implementation uses the playmate method of colorful expressions and methods that are interesting for autistic children. Autistic children who prefer to be visual. This implementation will be divided into 2, namely providing socialization to teachers and parents. The goal is that when giving treatment to children, it is adjusted to their function at home and school. The results of the service activities are socialization activities attended by all teachers and parents of students. Through these activities, there is an increase in the understanding of teachers and parents in teaching expression and emotion skills in autistic children.

Abstract

This study aims to assess how much the predictive power of verbal short term memory has on language skills. Participants in this study involved 50 typical preschool children, with a range of ages four to six years. Each participant was assessed using the Test of Auditory Processing Skill (TAPS-3) and Developmental Profile (DP-3). Data analysis in this study used correlation tests and linear regression tests with JASP. The results showed that there was a significant relationship between verbal short term memory and language skills (r = 0.635; p <0.001).

Abstract

This study aims to provide preliminary evidence regarding the important role of prelinguistic abilities in language development. This study involved 29 preschool children. Each child is assessed individually using the developmental profile and assessment of social and communication skills. After all the data is obtained, the data on each variable will be converted into a z-score before statistical analysis is carried out. Based on the correlation analysis, it is known that there is a correlation between joint attention and language (r = 0.697; p <.001), symbolic play and language (r = 0.820; p <.001), imitation and language (r = 0.680). ;p <.001), and gesture with language (r = 0.697; p <.001). This study provides preliminary evidence that it is important to consider prelinguistic abilities in language skills assessment and intervention.

Abstract

This study aimed to examine the construct validity of the Preschool Semantic Comprehension Test (TPSP) as a measure of semantic comprehension in preschool-aged children. A total of 72 children aged 3–6 years participated and were classified into two groups: typically developing and atypically developing children. Each child completed an individual testing session using TPSP, lasting approximately 10 to 15 minutes. TPSP is a standardized Indonesian assessment tool designed to measure semantic comprehension in preschool-aged children. The test is administered by speech therapists. Data were analyzed using independent samples t-tests, ANCOVA, and effect size estimation (Cohen’s d). Results revealed a highly significant difference in semantic comprehension scores between the two groups (p < .001, d = –2.631). Covariance analysis indicated that this difference remained significant even after controlling for age. These findings support the construct validity of TPSP, demonstrating its sensitivity in distinguishing developmental language profiles. The practical implications highlight TPSP's potential as an effective early assessment tool in Indonesian speech-language therapy settings. Future research is recommended to evaluate TPSP's longitudinal sensitivity and application in multilingual contexts.
