Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk (1) mendeskripsikan kebutuhan bahan ajar berbentuk modul dalam pembelajaran menulis makalah dan (2) mengetahui pengaruh potensial pengembangan bahan ajar berbentuk modul menulis makalah terhadap hasil belajar di Program Studi Pendidikan Bahasa, Sastra Indonesia dan Daerah, Fakultas Keguruan dan Ilmu Pendidikan, Universitas Baturaja. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah research and development. Subjek penelitian ini adalah mahasiswa kelas A.2.1 yang berjumlah 26 orang. Teknik pengumpulan data yang digunakan adalah angket, wawancara, dan tes. Data dalam penelitian ini dianalisis melalui analisis data tingkat kelayakan modul dan pengaruh potensial modul yang dihasilkan. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa melalui 26 angket terbuka yang disebarkan untuk analisis kebutuhan mahasiswa diperoleh sebanyak 26 orang menginginkan modul menulis makalah yang efektif dan aplikatif, 23 orang menginginkan modul yang fleksibel, 21 orang menginginkan modul yang menyajikan materi secara tepat dan praktis sesuai dengan tujuan pembelajaran, 23 orang membutuhkan modul yang disertai contoh dan latihan, dan 24 orang memerlukan modul yang dilengkapi dengan penilaian. Selanjutnya, hasil analisis kebutuhan dari 2 orang dosen menunjukkan bahwa mereka membutuhkan modul yang dapat meningkatkan kemampuan mahasiswa dalam menulis makalah. Hasil uji t dengan paired simple test menulis makalah menunjukkan bahwa nilai mean pada pretest dan posttest adalah 17.808 dengan standar deviasi 4.665 dan sig (2-tailed) 0.000 lebih kecil dari 0.05. Akhirnya, peneliti menyimpulkan bahwa hasil penelitian yang berbentuk modul menulis makalah ini layak digunakan dalam kegiatan pembelajaran dan memiliki pengaruh yang potensial terhadap peningkatan kemampuan mahasiswa dalam menulis makalah.

This paper aims at making a review of positive experiences that used modern technology devices in classrooms of English as a foreign language around the world. Some modern technology devices will be reviewed, they are: Tablet PCs, smartphone and iPads. For this review, four articles by researchers from different countries were selected in order to obtain positive reports on the use of modern technology devices in EFL classroom. Despite modern technology devices are still rare and not being popular in some areas in Indonesia, the use of that kinds of device as a learning tool is being largerly developed in Indonesia and other countries and it has shown good results so far.

ABSTRACT: This study was aimed at identify the students’ ability and factors influence the ability in listening short conversation. Thisstudy used descriptive method.The population of this study was all students of first semester of English Education Study Program, Teacher Training and Education Faculty, Baturaja University with the total number were 60 students in academic year 2016/2017 and the sample was 40 students which are chosen by using slovin formula. The data obtained through listening test and close ended questionnaire and were analyzed by using descriptive analysis technique.The result of the study showed that there were 18 students (45%) at the very good level, 10 students (25%) at good level, 8 students (20%) at average level, and 4 students (10%) at poor level but based on the table of the score range and percentage at all. They were in very good level. The result of the questionnaire showed the factors that influence  most the students’ ability in listening short conversation were: teacher employed under short conversation material taught to students and facilities provided by the university support fot teaching and learning process of listening.Key words: identifying, listening, short conversation

This study was aimed at whether YouTube English Channel can significantly enhance the students’ speaking skill at the second semester students of Management Study Program of Economic Faculty in the academic year 2018/2019, University of Baturaja.Quasi experimetal method was used in this study. This study employed second semester students of  Management Study Program of Economic Faculty, University of Baturaja with the total number of the population was 132 students. The sample of the study was 64 students and it was found that the value of Sig.= 0,000 less than the significance level (α=0,05)  so it meant that there was a great correlation between the score of pre-test and post-test. Then, the value of t-obtained = 9,057 which means   more than value of t-table = 2,042 with df = 32, and the value of sig.(2 tailed) = 0,000 less than the significance level (α=0,05).    It can be concluded that there was a significant difference in speaking skill before and after treatment. Abstract: This study was aimed at whether link system significantly effective in teaching speaking to the eleventh grade students of SMA Yadika Baturaja. This study used pre-experimental method by taking one class as the sample of the study. The population of this study was all of the eleventh grade students of SMA Yadika Baturaja with the total number were 212 students in academic year 2013/2014 and the sample was 35 students in one class which are chosen by using purposive sampling. The data obtained through the oral test and was analyzed by using paired sample t-test of SPSS 16 program. The result of the study showed that the average students’ scores in post-test (62.16) was higher than the average students’ scores in pre-test(55.39). The result of the data analyzed through SPSS 16 program was 5.477 to tobtained  and 2. 032 to ttable with the significance level (α = 0,05) and degree of freedom (df = 35 – 1 = 34). This study showed that the alternative hypothesis (Ha) was accepted and null hypothesis (Ho) was rejected which means it was significantly effective to teach speaking by using link system to the eleventh grade students of SMA Yadika Baturaja. Key words: Effectiveness, Mnemonic, Link System

Tujuan dari penelitian ini untuk mengetahui efektivitas metode pembelajaran braimstorming dalam meningkatkan kemampuan menulis teks berita pada mahasiswa semester VI Program Studi Pendidikan Bahasa dan sastra Indonesia FKIP Unbara. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah metode eksperimen dengan menggunakan desain Pra-eksperimental. Populasi dalam penelitian ini adalah seluruh mahasiswa semester VI Program Studi Pendidikan Bahasa dan Sastra Indonesia yang berjumlah 137 mahasiswa dan sampel berjumlah 27 orang diambil dengan menggunakan metode sample random sampling. Berdasarkan hasil analisis data, rata-rata post-test adalah 84,44  dan skor  rata-rata  pre-test adalah 64,44. Hasil uji t menyatakan bahwa thitung lebih besar dari ttabel (0.05:27). Maka dapat disimpulkan bahwa ada perbedaan kemampuan menulis antara metode konvensional dan menggunakan  metode pembelajaran brainstorming. Maka dapat  disimpulkan bahwa ada  perbedaan skor rata-rata dari nilai pre-test  menggunakan metode pembelajaran brainstorming lebih tinggi  dari  metode konvensional. Maka, dapat disimpulkan bahwa pembelajaran dengan menggunakan metode brainstorming lebih efektif dalam pembelajaran menulis teks berita. Kata Kunci: Metode brainstorming, Keterampilan menulis, Teks berita.

This study aimed to find out what category of lecturer talks applied by lecturers in classroom interaction. This study was a descriptive survey. The participants were chosen by using purposive sampling technique where there were four English lecturers who taught at Second Semester Class of English Department of Baturaja University in the academic year of 2016/2017. The data were taken through observation, questionnaire and interview. Camera recorder and checklist were the instruments used in this study. The data were identified by using FLINT (Foreign Language Interaction) system as developed by Moskowitz (1971). The result of the study showed that the total of frequencies the deals with feeling were 9 or 1.6%, praises or encourages were 57 or 9.9%, uses ideas of students were 42 or 7.3%, asks questions were 199 or 34.6%, gives information were 92 or 16%, gives directions were 151 or 26.3% and criticizes student behavior were 25 or 4.3%. In conclusion, the category of lecturer applied by lecturers was asks questions in classroom interaction that the best ways to develop their role as an initiator and strategies that promote interaction in classroom activity. This study aimed to find out EFL students’ speaking ability in a descriptive text. This research was a descriptive survey. The participants were chosen by using cluster random sampling technique where there were twenty students at the eleventh-grade students of SMA Negeri 4 OKU. The data were collected through oral test in the form of online test and telephone survey. WhatsApp application was used as an online platform in data collection. The result of the study showed that the total of students’ score was 1142 and mean of the students’ score was 57,1. There were 1 student (5%) who gains score 80-100 in very good criteria, 2 students (10%) who gain score 66-79 in good criteria, 10 students (50%) who gain score 56-65 in enough criteria, 5 students (25%) who gain score 46-55 in low criteria, and 2 students (10%) got score 45 in fail criteria. Based on the data, there were only 13 students (65%) who passed the students’ speaking ability. In conclusion, the frequency of criteria of students’ speaking ability is in enough criteria.
