Abstract

Various studies and applied processing by businesses have been done to improve the quality of Patchouli oil (PO), such as improving appearance, reducing heavy metal content, reducing acid numbers, and increasing the ratio of Patchouli alcohol (one of the active components of PO). However, this disregards the possibility of chemical composition change which will alter the original character of the PO. This study aims to identify the slightest shift in chemical composition from adding zeolite adsorbent into the PO. The classification model was built using Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR) spectra combined with chemometrics. The used FT-IR spectra for observation are 4000-500 cm-1 using Principal Component Analysis (PCA) and Partial Least Square-Discriminant Analysis (PLS-DA). The PO samples were from five points in Gayo Lues Regency, Province of Aceh, Indonesia, with PO added with zeolite at a ratio of 0.5%, 1.0%, 1.5%, 2.0%, and 2.5% (w/v) respectively. The classification model used in this study was able to classify between PO and PO added with zeolite at each level of the ratio. Prediction with deviation and Inlier vs. Hotelling’s T2 tests provide definitive information, with the results shown by the confusion matrix.

Abstract

Philosophy of science is a branch of philosophy that discusses the foundations, methodologies, and goals of science, as well as providing an ethical foundation for the development of science. This study explores the development of philosophy of science from the Ancient Greek period to the contemporary era, and analyzes the main dimensions of philosophy of science: ontology, epistemology, and axiology. Rational thinking in the Greek period, through figures such as Thales, Socrates, Plato, and Aristotle, became the basis of systematic science. In the golden age of Islam, figures such as Al-Farabi, Ibn Sina, and Al-Ghazali introduced an integration of revelation and reason that enriched

Abstract

The Nahdlatul Ulama (NU) Islamic boarding schools (pesantren) in Lampung plays a vital role in religious education ‎and character building within the community. The leadership of the kiai in the pesantren is ‎not limited to the spiritual aspect, but also affects the social welfare of the surrounding ‎community. Therefore, it is important to explore the application of utilitarianism principles in ‎the kiai's leadership to improve the well-being of the community. This study aims to analyze ‎the role of kiai leadership in NU pesantren in Lampung and how the principles of ‎utilitarianism are applied in their leadership. The research method used is a qualitative ‎approach with a case study design. Data were collected through in-depth interviews with ‎kiais, pesantren administrators, and santri, as well as observations of the kiai's leadership ‎practices in the pesantren. The results show that the application of utilitarianism principles ‎in kiai leadership has proven to provide greater social benefits, both in education, economic ‎empowerment, and social policies that prioritize the common welfare. This study concludes ‎that kiai leadership based on utilitarianism principles can create a positive impact on the ‎pesantren community and its surroundings. Furthermore, these findings contribute to the ‎development of a leadership model based on social values and the well-being of the ‎community, which can be applied in other pesantren across Indonesia‎.
