Abstract

Objective: Evaluating the pain scale of circumcision patients under lidocaine hydrochloride local anesthesia. Material & Methods: An observational descriptive research was carried out on 30 children with a body weight of 20-29 kilograms from February 2023-April 2023. Circumcision was performed under 2 ampoules of 2% lidocaine as local anesthesia. Data consisted of pain onset measure using a stopwatch and the pain scale were obtained through the Wong-Baker Face Pain Rating Scale (WBFPRS), these variables were recorded when pain occurs post-local anesthesia effects ends. Results: The average onset of pain is 47.73 minutes with the fastest onset of pain was 20 minutes and the longest onset of pain was 72 minutes. The average pain scale as measured by the WBFPRS is 2.33. Conclusion: The average pain scale in this study was less than 3 which indicated that the pain felt did not interfere with activities. Abstract

Interprofessional Education (IPE) is a curriculum approach where students from various health profession backgrounds collaborate in one place to learn and get to know each other, as well as appreciate the role of each health profession to achieve collaboration and teamwork for the advancement of health services Objective: To determine the perception of health profession students towards interprofessional education at Unand Hospital Methods: This study is a descriptive research with a cross-sectional research design. The research was conducted at Unand Hospital with a total sample of 51 people consisting of 8 students of the Doctor Profession, 19 students of the Midwife Profession, 16 students of the Nursing Profession, and 8 students of the Pharmacist Profession. The research sample was determined using the proportionate stratified random sampling technique. This study uses an Interdisciplinary Education Perception Scale (IEPS) questionnaire. Results: A total of 40 students (78.4%) had a good perception of IPE with the highest percentage of competency and autonomy perception components (82.4%) and the perception component of understanding of other professions had the lowest percentage (62.7%). Nursing Profession students have the highest percentage of perception (87.5%), while Pharmacist Profession students have the lowest percentage of perception (62.5%). First-year students (83.3%) have a higher percentage of perception than second-year students (75.8%). Conclusion: The perception of health profession students towards IPE at Unand Hospital is mostly in the good category, however, the understanding of other professions is still lacking, so this needs to be considered and improved.

Abstract

The declining number of end-stage renal disease (ESRD) patients who opt for Continuous Ambulatory Peritoneal Dialysis (CAPD) as a renal replacement therapy is influenced by several factors, including high infection rates, limited patient and family knowledge, and restricted access to CAPD services. However, research exploring the perspectives of healthcare professionals, such as dialysis nurses and nephrologists, on this phenomenon remains limited. This study aimed to explore the perspectives of dialysis nurses and nephrologists regarding barriers to CAPD utilization. A qualitative descriptive design was employed, using semi-structured interviews with 12 participants, including 10 dialysis nurses and 2 nephrologists at a tertiary hospital in West Sumatra, Indonesia. Data were analyzed using Colaizzi’s seven-step method. Five major themes emerged: (1) Weak coordination, unsupportive policies, and limited expertise; (2) Infection risk as the primary challenge in CAPD; (3) Ineffective patient and family education in CAPD care; (4) Psychological barriers to accepting CAPD therapy; and (5) Determinants of patient decision-making in choosing CAPD, and 15 Sub-themes. This study highlights the barriers that patients face when choosing CAPD as a renal replacement therapy. Unsupportive policies, increased infection risks, and inadequate educational systems were identified as key challenges that require urgent evaluation and improvement. Strengthening these aspects is crucial to ensure optimal care for patients who opt for CAPD. Keyword: Indonesia, Nephrologist, Nurse Perspective, Peritoneal Dialysis, Qualitative Study

Abstract

Prostate cancer is one of the most common and deadliest cancers among men, both worldwide and in Indonesia. Prostate cancer is a malignant disease characterized by abnormal cellular proliferation within the prostate tissue. Age is the most common risk factor for prostate cancer, with the risk increasing markedly in men aged 50 years and older. The most frequently identified subtype of prostate cancer is adenocarcinoma. This study was a descriptive observational study using medical record data of patients diagnosed with prostate cancer based on histopathological findings at the Anatomical Pathology Laboratory of Dr. M. Djamil General Hospital, Padang, during the period 2018–2022. Total sampling was employed. The variables analyzed included age, clinical manifestations, prostate-specific antigen (PSA) levels, histopathological cell type, and the degree of cellular differentiation of prostate cancer. The results showed that a total of 41 prostate cancer patients met the inclusion criteria. The most common age group was 55–70 years (63.4%). Local clinical manifestations were observed in 92.7% of patients, serum PSA levels >20 ng/mL in 82.9%, adenocarcinoma as the histopathological type in 100%, and poorly differentiated tumors in 82.9% of cases. The predominant histopathological type of prostate cancer was adenocarcinoma. Most patients were aged 55–70 years, commonly presented with local clinical symptoms, had serum PSA levels >20 ng/mL, and most frequently exhibited a poorly differentiated degree of tumor differentiation.

Abstract

Fatigue is the most common complaint among patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD) undergoing hemodialysis. Energy conservation management involves modifying daily activities to reduce energy expenditure and alleviate fatigue. This study examines the impact of energy conservation management on fatigue levels in patients undergoing hemodialysis. This quasi-experimental study involved 52 hemodialysis patients who were randomly assigned to either the intervention or control group. The study was conducted in a hemodialysis unit at a public hospital in West Sumatra, Indonesia, from July to September 2024. The intervention group received energy conservation management training over a six-week period, comprising 12 sessions. Fatigue levels were assessed using the Functional Assessment of Chronic Illness Therapy-Fatigue (FACIT-F) questionnaire. Data analysis was performed using paired and independent t-tests. The results showed a significant reduction in fatigue in the intervention group (p < 0.001). The mean (SD) fatigue score decreased from 28.92 (6.14) at baseline to 22.04 (4.41) after the 12 intervention sessions. Furthermore, a statistically significant difference in fatigue scores was observed between the intervention and control groups (p < 0.001). Effective energy conservation management reduces fatigue in hemodialysis patients. Nurses can teach this strategy to help patients manage fatigue in daily life
