Abstract

This research is categorized as developmental research which is conducted in order to design and develop a model of learning reading-literacy for lower grade at elementary school both in Indonesia (MIN III Bondowoso, East Java) and Malaysia (Kebangsaan Bukit Rokan Utara School, Negeri Sembilan). The process of developing the model based on ADDIE development procedure. However, in this research, researchers conduct the research for two phases only which are need analysis phase and developing model phase. The data gotten from the principals, teachers at lower grade, and students at lower grade. In the need analysis process can be concluded that there are several construct must be consider in designing learning reading-literacy model. Those are 1). Learning objectives; 2). Instructional material; 3). Learning experience; 4). Learning strategy; 5). Learning literacy procedure; 6). Time allocation; 7). Monitoring; and 8). Learning resources. Those items then becoming the prior consideration in developing sub-items as part of designing learning reading-literacy model. In the designing phase, there consist of three part which are designing prototype I, prototype II, and prototype III. There were an additional items from 18 expert in prototype II toward prototype I. Those item consist of construct 1 which change from six items to 20 items; construct 2 which change from 5 items to 16 items; construct 3 which change from 3 items to 14 items; construct 4 which change from 8 items to 20 items; construct 5 which change from 2 items to 16 items; construct 6 which change from 3 items to 10 items; construct 7 which change from 1 items to 9 items; and construct 8 which change from 4 items to 9 items. While in designing prototype III, there were also several changes which change from 20 items to 19 items for construct 1; no changes for construct 2 until construct 8. There are distinction between Indonesia and Malaysia, and this is not significantly different. Those different is coming from the learning resource used in learning activities. Therefore, for this items, the developed model then divided into general resource which used same resource, Indonesian resource, and Malaysian resource (which cannot be specified).

Abstract

Strategic leadership is a critical issue for school leaders. Over the past few decades, strategic leadership studies in fields other than education have been implemented, but there is still a lack of studies related to strategic leadership in education. The purpose of this systematic literature review (SLR) is to provide a comprehensive overview of research related to strategic leadership in Malaysia, identifying any gaps in the literature as a reference for future research. This study was conducted systematically and the review was based on the PRISMA (Reporting Standards for Systematic Evidence Synthesis) method. This study selected articles using two leading databases, namely Scopus and Web of Science, and one supporting database, Google Scholar. A systematic review process, eligibility and exclusion criteria, review process steps (identification, screening, eligibility) and data analysis were conducted. The results show that there is limited literature on strategic leadership and from the literature there are three primary dimensions that are stated from a throughout the school and educational institutions viewpoint in Malaysia: (i) mission, vision and values, (ii) futuristic thinking skills, and (iii) leading a change strategy. Further research is also expected to develop a strategic leadership model of teacher leaders in the Malaysian context. This is important to expand research related to strategic leadership in a more complex way to gain a better understanding of this construct especially in Malaysia.

Abstract

More than ever, teachers play a larger and more significant role in society. This change in perspective has recognized pre-service teachers enrolled in teacher preparation programs as having the capacity to assume leadership roles. Despite the fact that many researchers have conducted research on pre-service teachers’ leadership, limited numbers of scholars have attempted to gather and conduct a systematic literature review on the same topic. This article seeks to address the aforementioned issues by compiling a comprehensive literature review of earlier research on pre-service teacher leadership published in English-based journals from 2020 to 2023. Through a theoretical discussion, the study synthesis aimed to uncover emerging research agendas for future research and to generate fresh perspectives on pre-service teacher leadership. The PRISMA writing standard has been used to guide this SLR's composition. Two primary databases, Web of Science and Scopus, were utilized to locate articles and relevant materials for this systematic literature review. A total of 22 articles were selected from the original 733 articles identified. Based on the content analysis done, this SLR has identified five main themes, which are "Teacher Development and Conceptions", "Curriculum Leadership and Teacher Education", "Women in Education and Leadership", "Leadership Styles and Teacher Impact", and "Mentoring and Professional Development". The findings underscore the evolving nature of teacher education, emphasizing the imperative for programs to prepare pre-service teachers to meet the ever-changing demands of contemporary classrooms and contribute meaningfully to national and societal goals. The study's implications can guide pre-service teachers to prepare more comprehensive planning and implement leadership in future education.

Abstract

The need for an effective leadership in assessment has become increasingly significant in the Malaysian educational context. This concept paper discusses the changing dynamics of educational assessment, emphasising the significance of classroom assessment in promoting student learning. The discussion initiates by delineating the diverse categories of educational assessments and emphasise the increasing significance of classroom assessment in fostering effective learning environments. In Malaysia, there is a noticeable shift from a traditional exam-oriented culture to a more holistic, learning-centred approach. However, this shift presents various obstacles, especially for teachers in successfully executing classroom assessment. Thus, this paper highlights the pivotal role of school leaders in facilitating and assisting teachers as they navigate these challenges. It emphasises on the need for establishing a strong assessment leadership model that acts as a framework for school leaders, enabling them to offer essential direction and support to their teachers. Although current frameworks and standards provide valuable insights, they frequently do not meet the contextual and contemporary requirements of the Malaysian education system. Therefore, this paper provides a foundation for future research and advocates for the development of a contextualized and contemporary assessment leadership model that aligns with both the current educational landscape and the nation's cultural context. A model that is anticipated to enhance the ability of school leaders to effectively support teachers in fostering a culture of continuous learning.

Abstract

Needs analysis is conducted in module development research to ensure that the products produced can meet the needs of users. Failure to master reading skills early in schooling will lead to failure to master other skills, resulting in the student dropping out of continuing to develop their potential. As a result, this study was conducted to determine the need for literacy module development. This study's specific goal is to identify the need for malay literacy teaching management modules based on teachers' perceptions. This study uses a case study design with a qualitative method approach to gather information and data from four teachers who served as the study sample through semi-structured interviews.
