Abstract

One of the main issues for women in the reproductive age range is leucorrhoea, which causes a woman ongoing distress, and occasionally be the first sign of several of the main gynecological disorders. The widespread use of fluconazole antibiotics has caused Candida sp to become resistant. Alternative non-pharmacological treatments based on natural products are needed, especially P. crocatum which has antioxidant, antifungal, and anti-inflammatory activities. This study analyzed the empirical study of P. crocatum used against leucorrhoea due to C. albicans. The empirical study presented that vaginal discharge was reduced after using P. crocatum formulations. The infection parameter of vaginal pH level, the intensity of pain, and itching were significantly recovered with p values of 0.008, 0.000, and 0.001, respectively, while the reducing C. albicans colonies was 0.001. P. crocatum decoction formulation is effective in reducing vaginal yeast infections in women, close to the results of the positive control, ketoconazole.

Abstract

Menstrual pain (dysmenorrhea) can have an impact on the activities or activities of women, especially teenagers. If dysmenorrhea is not treated immediately, it will affect the mental and physical function of the individual, it is urgent to take pharmacological or non-pharmacological action immediately. One of the plants that can be used as traditional medicine is Tapak Liman (Elephantopus scaber). Tapak Liman contains the flavonoid luteolin-7-glikosida stigmasterol, isodeoxyelephantopin, elephantopin, deoxyelephantopin, epiprielinol which have natural analgesic and anti-inflammatory effects. Dysmenorrhea is one example of visceral pain, namely pain that is very complex, Tapak Liman is believed to have chemical components that are antioxidants and sedatives aromatherapy to calm and relax. In this study, researchers used quantitative research. The method used was quasi-experimental with one group pretest-posttest design. The research instrument was a questionnaire on the respondent's level of knowledge and measurement of pain intensity using the Wong Baker Rating Scale. Based on the results of non-parametric analysis with the Wilcoxon Test, the results of the Z test are -5,476 with a probability of 0.000. If the probability = 5% (level of significance) then H1 is accepted, it can be concluded that there is a significant effect on giving Tapak Liman as aromatherapy to reduce the intensity of dysmenorrhea pain in Midwifery students, Poltekkes, Pontianak Ministry of Health. The average decrease in the intensity of dysmenorrhea pain obtained before the intervention was 5.1788 and 3.3455 was obtained after the intervention.

Abstract

Background: One of the global targets of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in 2030 is to reduce maternal mortality rate (MMR) to below 70/100.000 live births and infant mortality rate (IMR) to 2/1000 live births. One of the factors that complicates childbirth is inadequate contractions, which is influenced by oxytocin. Oxytocin is a hormone secreted by neurohypophysis that causes uterine contractions during delivery. One of the traditional herbs that can be used to increase contractions is Fatimah grass (Anastatica hierochuntica). A. hierochuntica was used in Arabs, Indonesia, and Malaysia (63,9%) to shorten labor time, breastfeeding, and reduce postpartum hemorrhage by traditional. Purpose: This purpose was to identify the potency of A. hierochuntica as an oxytocin stimulator by invitro and invivo study. Methods: The method used a true experiment with a double-blind randomized controlled trial (RCT) and posttest design with a control group design of four groups (G1-G4). The research subject was 28 pregnant mice. Results: The results of this research were A. hierochuntica has flavonoids, terpenoids, steroids, alkaloids, phenolic, tannin, and saponin secondary metabolites. A. hireochuntica have activity to increase the oxytocin hormone levels in pregnant mice (G1 averaged 49.79; G2 averaged 83.38; G3 averaged 91.05; and G4 averaged 101.39 pg/ml), increase the contraction of onset time (G2 averaged 17; G2 averaged 14.71; and G4 averaged 13.57 minutes) and shorten labor time. Conclusion: The use of A. hierochuntica decoction significantly increases levels of the oxytocin and uterine contractions. The use of A. hireochuntica in delivery women as traditional herbs requires monitoring from health workers because of its strong ability to increase contractions, and must be done carefully with health worker recommendation.

Abstract

Adolescent girls are vulnerable to vaginal discharge (leukorrhea) due to hormonal changes and lack of understanding of reproductive health. Pathological leukorrhea often causes discomfort such as itching, unpleasant odor, and changes in the color of the discharge. According to WHO (2021), about 75% of women in Indonesia have experienced leukorrhea, and 45% have had it more than once. In West Kalimantan, the prevalence reaches 50%. Education using attractive media such as e-booklets and animated story videos can be an enjoyable and effective solution. This study aimed to determine the effectiveness of e-booklets and animated story videos in increasing adolescent girls' knowledge about herbal interventions for leukorrhea. This research employed a quasi-experimental design with a two-group pretest-posttest approach. Samples were selected using proportional random sampling, and data were collected through questionnaires. Data were analyzed using the Mann-Whitney test. The results showed a significant difference between the two groups (p = < 0,001 ), with a higher increase in knowledge among participants who received education through animated story videos compared to e-booklets. Conclusion: Animated story videos are more effective than e-booklets in increasing adolescent girls’ knowledge about herbal ingredients for managing leukorrhea.
