Abstract

Berbagai metode karakterisasi telah digunakan untuk memahami sifat mekanik bahan dengan menggunakan metode yang canggih atau metode paling sederhana. Pada penelitian ini dikembangkan metode sederhana untuk menghitung modulus elastis dengan menggunakan image tracking pada kertas A4 (100 g) yang membengkok dengan menerapkan prinsip balok cantilever. Metode ini menggunakan software video tracker 4.94 (Open Source) yang dapat dioperasikan dengan OS Windows. Preparasi sampel dilakukan dengan memotong kertas berukuran 16 cm x 5 cm. Pengambilan gambar dilakukan dengan menvariasikan sudut kelengkungannya pada sampel berbentuk persegi panjang (diasumsikan homogen). Profil lentur balok cantilever pada kertas difoto menggunakan kamera digital. Tracking koordinat dilakukan pada beberapa titik di setiap segmen sampel. Kebergantungan elastisitas terhadap parameter densitas dan penampang balok cantilever juga menjadi dasar dalam mengembangkan metode pengukuran ini. Data penampang dan kerapatan berdasarkan gambar profil lentur setiap bahan yang diperoleh dapat digunakan untuk menghitung modulus elastisitasnya. Hasil penelitian ini dapat berkontribusi pada pengembangan penelitian tentang pengukuran sifat mekanik bahan.

Abstract

This paper explains a simple method used to determine the direction of Qibla or do the correction of Qibla direction in the mosque, mushola, or surau that already exist. The proposed method only utilizes the GoogleMap facility provided by Google. The approach is taken to draw a straight line from Ka’bah to the location where the mosque will be built. This Method is interesting to teach in Islamic high schools or Islamic education programs in colleges.

Abstract

Nata de Coco (NDC)  is a network of cellulose fibers that traps abundant of water. If a freshly made NDC is dried to remove nearly all trapped water, we will get a very hygroscopic material. This material is potential for making water adsorber that might compete the well known silica gel. NDC was prepared using standard methods and its water absorption was investigated. Dried NDC was used in this study. For comparison, we also investigated the water absorption of several commercial NDC. To determine its business prospects, the water absorption of silica gel was also investigated. The results showed that dried NDC could absorb water vapor comparable to the absorption of commercial silica gel. This suggests that dry NDC has the potential as an alternative water vapor absorber in food packaging. The advantages of the NDC compared to silica gel are safer and environmentally benign, and easily decomposed.
