Abstract

Abstract

Ethnoscience is a science learning approach that implements local wisdom (regional culture) using certain cultural products. Local wisdom can be in food and drink, traditional ceremonies, dances, games, and traditional languages. One of the traditional food-based local wisdom is Papeda. Papeda is a traditional food made from sago flour. The purpose of this research is to reconstruct the original science of the community into scientific science and to review the concept of chemistry in science learning in the process of making papeda. The research method used is descriptive qualitative research through interviews and literature studies. The results of this study indicate that the reconstruction of indigenous knowledge into scientific science from the local wisdom of traditional food typical of North Maluku, namely Papeda, can be used as a learning resource for students because it has relevance to various chemical concepts in science learning. Chemical concepts contained in the process of making papeda are substances and their changes, colloids, physical and chemical changes, thermochemistry, macromolecules (especially carbohydrates), and food and nutrients with their relationship to the digestive system.

Abstract

Boka is a form of dowry with a fixed amount determined by the social stratification of women within the customary system. Sandi Village, located in Buton Wakatobi Regency, Southeast Sulawesi Province, is among the communities that still preserve the Boka tradition. This study aims to explore the practice of Boka in marriage ceremonies in Sandi Village and to analyze its compatibility with Islamic law, particularly through the lens of the maslahah (public interest) theory. The main objective is to examine how the Boka tradition is implemented, including the establishment of dowry values based on women's social hierarchy, and to assess whether this tradition aligns with Islamic principles that emphasize social harmony and justice. This research employs a qualitative approach, with fieldwork conducted in Sandi Village, Buton Wakatobi Regency. The analysis is descriptive and qualitative. The findings reveal the dynamic practice of Boka in the community's marriage rituals, showing a significant relationship between the amount of the dowry (Boka) and the traditional social stratification of women (Kaomu, Walaka, Papara). The Boka value is fixed and non-negotiable, intended to maintain women's social status in Butonese society.

Abstract

This study examines the resolution of interreligious conflicts in Jailolo, North Maluku, against the backdrop of social unrest with ethno-religious (SARA) nuances that erupted in various regions of Indonesia, such as the Ambon conflict (1998), Poso (1998), North Maluku (2000), Tobelo (the “Papilo Bloodshed” and “Sosol Bloodshed”), as well as Loloda and Kao-Malifut. These conflicts claimed numerous victims from both Muslim and Christian communities and severely disrupted local social and cultural harmony. The research aims to identify the background of the conflicts, the resolution strategies undertaken, the patterns of interreligious relations after the conflicts, and community responses to conflict resolution based on local wisdom. Employing a qualitative approach and inductive method, the findings reveal that Jailolo, with its pluralistic cultural and religious background, has adopted the local symbol Marimoi Ngone Foturu (“unity is strength”) as a social adhesive. This principle serves as both a conflict resolution tool and a model for post-conflict interreligious harmony. The study highlights that economic and political disparities initially triggered the conflicts, while religious issues emerged later, underscoring the importance of inclusive religious values and local wisdom in strengthening conflict resolution in Indonesia.
