Abstract

Abstract This article is the result of research that discusses the process of acculturation between the traditional culture of the Ternate Sultanate community and the Islamic religion. This research aims to explore the ritual communication activities of the Jere pilgrimage by the Ternate indigenous community from an Islamic perspective. This ritual is believed by the Ternate community to be in accordance with the Islamic perspective, as Islam is the majority religion and the official religion in the Sultanate of Ternate. The research approach used is descriptive-qualitative, involving the analysis of interviews with religious and traditional figures in the Sultanate of Ternate. The results of this research explain that the Jere pilgrimage is a form of ritual communication for the indigenous community of Ternate to visit the mausoleums of saints and influential figures in the spread of Islam. Abstract

In sociological contexts, the interaction between culture and religious content naturally reflects the dynamic nature of social phenomena, arising from the harmonization of societal norms and religious principles. The Cokaiba tradition exemplifies this intersection, blending cultural heritage with Islamic commemoration. This study utilizes a phenomenological approach to explore the significance of the Cokaiba tradition within Halmahera society in North Maluku, aiming to elucidate broader perspectives on the interplay between culture and religion. Through qualitative research rooted in phenomenology, this study investigates the dynamics of the Cokaiba tradition within the Fagogoru Community in Central Halmahera, North Maluku. Data collection involves immersive engagement with key informants, including religious figures, community leaders, practitioners of the tradition, and local residents, through interviews, observations, and documentation. Findings reveal the emergence of Cokaiba as a fusion of cultural heritage and Islamic celebration, embodying principles of monotheism and serving as a means to propagate Islam within the region. Despite diverse interpretations, the convergence of religion and culture within Cokaiba fosters harmonious coexistence, facilitating the integration of religious values with cherished cultural practices. However, limitations include the challenge of fully capturing individual experiences and perceptions with a phenomenological approach and the potential lack of generalizability due to the study's focus on the Fagogoru Community. Future research incorporating a broader range of perspectives and cultural contexts would enhance understanding of the intricate dynamics between religion and culture manifested in traditions like Cokaiba.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine the form of parental involvement in children's households in the Guraping Village, North Oba District, Tidore Islands City. The results of the study describe the habits of parents who do not understand their position in the midst of children's family life so that parents are not the arbiters between their children's disputes as husband and wife, but as unilateral decision- making that harms life between husband and wife in this case their children. The conclusion from this study is that parental involvement in children's households does not always have a positive impact on their children. In Islamic law the involvement of parents in a child's household is permissible as long as it does not contain elements of tyranny, mediating between children's disputes is not based on reasons of economic conflict. Parents must be a source of solutions for both.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the implementation of Islamic Religious Education (PAI) in fostering students’ religious values at SMA Negeri 8 Kota Ternate, identify its challenges, and formulate effective improvement strategies. A descriptive qualitative approach was employed using observation, in-depth interviews, and document analysis. The results show that PAI is implemented through both intraclass and extracurricular activities in an integrated manner, with the teacher playing a central role as a role model. Internal challenges include students’ low spiritual awareness and lack of religious practice at home, while external challenges involve limited facilities and low parental involvement. To address these issues, the school applies strategies such as religious habit formation, integration of religious values across subjects, student leadership in spiritual activities, and partnerships with parents and the community. Effective implementation of PAI requires a comprehensive synergy among all educational elements

Abstract

This study examines the historical development and contemporary practices of Sufism at the As'adiyah Sengkang Islamic Boarding School in Wajo, South Sulawesi, from the early 20th century to the present. Using a descriptive qualitative approach, data were collected through observation, interviews with the boarding school's leadership, teaching staff, alumni, and students, as well as a review of the institution's historical documents. The findings indicate that As'adiyah practices a form of Sunni Sufism, reflected in the tradition of halaqah-based learning, the use of yellow books, and the development of moderate religious attitudes. This Sufi orientation significantly shapes the students' personal ethics—manifested in humility, respect for teachers (barakka'na Gurutta'), and ritual discipline—and contributes to the creation of social harmony in the surrounding community. Theoretically, this study contributes to the field of local Sufism by demonstrating that the internalization of Sunni Sufism in the Islamic boarding school education system functions not only as a spiritual discipline but also as a socio-cultural mechanism that fosters religious moderation and social resilience within the Muslim community. These findings confirm the role of Sufism as a transformative force in Islamic education and as a foundational element for strengthening religious moderation in contemporary Indonesia
