Abstract: This article aims to explain the importance of contextualizing the practice of consolation worship in the slametan tradition in Javanese society as one of the church's missions for church growth. Slametan is a Javanese tradition that involves ceremonial offerings of food to ancestors and gods as a form of spiritual honor and respect. To achieve the objectives and discussion, the researcher used a qualitative method with a descriptive-analytical approach. Data were collected through literature study, direct observation, interviews with church leaders and Javanese community members, as well as content analysis of relevant sources. Data analysis was conducted to identify challenges and opportunities in contextualizing the practice of consolation worship in the slametan tradition. The results show that contextualizing the practice of consolation worship in the slametan tradition can produce a positive impact on church growth, strengthen relationships with Javanese communities, and provide relevant and meaningful pastoral care. Contextualization helps the church to build an inclusive community, where Javanese people feel valued, recognized, and accepted in the context of their faith. This research can also contribute to the importance of contextualizing the practice of consolation worship in the slametan tradition in Javanese society as one of the church's missions for dynamic church growth.

Abstract

The role of philosophy in Christianity has been a topic of intense discussion since the Patristic era. Philosophy is often viewed as ambiguous in its contributions to theological understanding and the practice of faith. This study aims to analyze the relevance of philosophy in Christianity, particularly as a support for theological reflection and the practical life of Christians. Using a qualitative approach, the research integrates an in-depth literature review of the works of major Christian philosophers such as Augustine, Thomas Aquinas, and Karl Rahner, while also exploring the interaction between philosophy and theology in a contemporary context. The findings reveal that philosophy plays a significant role in three main aspects: (1) providing a rational framework for understanding and communicating theological doctrines, (2) serving as a tool for critical thinking in addressing modern intellectual challenges to faith, and (3) acting as an ethical foundation supporting Christian life practices. These results also indicate that the integration of philosophy with theology enriches the experience of faith and opens constructive interdisciplinary dialogue. In conclusion, philosophy is not only relevant but also essential in strengthening the foundations of Christian theology while advancing a more reflective life of faith. This study makes a significant contribution to the development of interdisciplinary studies between philosophy and theology, offering new insights for church leaders, academics, and Christians in exploring faith rationally and holistically.

Abstract

This article explores the authority of creation from a biblical perspective, focusing on the phenomenon of gender engineering as an ethical and theological challenge in the modern era. The study is grounded in the Christian belief that the human body is a creation of God, endowed with sacred value, divine dignity, and spiritual purpose. Employing an interdisciplinary approach, this research integrates insights from theology, medical science, and sociology. Its aim is to provide profound theological reflections on bodily modification in light of Christian values and to formulate an ethical framework to help Christians navigate these complex developments. The findings reveal that gender engineering creates a paradox between human freedom and divine authority. Extensive bodily modifications may be seen as violations of the sanctity of the body and the sovereignty of God. Within Christian thought, the human body is not merely a physical entity but a dwelling place of the Holy Spirit, thus requiring deep respect for its dignity. This study offers a significant contribution by presenting a biblically grounded ethical guide to help Christians understand and respond to the moral challenges posed by advances in modern medical technology.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the concept of the Son of God in the Gospel of John 17:1–26 from a theological perspective. The Gospel of John, one of the canonical Gospels, distinctively emphasizes the divine identity of Jesus as the Son of God. In chapter 17, Jesus prays to His Father in heaven, affirming His unique relationship as the Son of God. The research method employed is biblical text analysis using an exegetical approach. Data were collected from prominent theological sources and relevant academic literature. The findings indicate that the concept of the Son of God in John 17:1–26 encompasses several important theological dimensions, including: first, His equality with God the Father in divinity; second, the uniqueness of His relationship with the Father as the beloved Son; and third, His role in God's plan of salvation for humanity. The conclusion of this study is that the concept of the Son of God in John 17:1–26 affirms the divine identity of Jesus and reveals His intimate relationship with God the Father. This concept has significant theological implications for the Christian understanding of the divinity of Jesus Christ.
