Abstract

The objective of the research was to reveal the interests of the junior highschool students in English and the effectiveness of using the spying method toimprove their interests.The research was a classroom action research. The subjects were the studentsof SMPN 6 Yogyakarta. The reserach was conducted in one cycle consisting ofplanning, acting, and reflecting. To complete the data, the teacher was interviewed.The findings showed that the spying method was an innovative teachingstrategy. It can be seen in the improvement of the students’ skill in the English conversations.Most of the students spoke actively and did not feel afraid and shy though notmaximally yet. This method also helped them learn new vocabularies and pronunciation.Based on the interview with the teacher, it can be concluded that the spyingmethod could help the teacher improve the students’ interest in the English subject.

Abstract

As it is well known that Japan has many unique cultures that can attract people from other countries. Since the mid-1960s, Japanese culture, especially popular culture, has continued to develop to this day. The peak of its development was in 2002, when an article written by Douglas McGray entitled " Japan's Gross National Cool " was published in Foreign Policy Magazine. This article is the reason for the emergence of a new term called Cool Japan , which is used to describe all cultures originating in Japan. Japan then used Cool Japan as one of its diplomatic strategies, especially for countries in Southeast Asia. As a cultural diplomacy strategy, Cool Japan has several advantages or benefits for the Japanese Government, such as: to build a positive image to the people of Southeast Asia, to develop the country's economy through the cultural industry as well as a tool to compete with cultural products from China and South Korea.

Abstract

This study aims to determine: (1) the confidence level of Diponegoro University Applied Foreign Languages English Students Class of 2019 – 2020 with public speaking in English; (2) the reason for the insecurity of Diponegoro University Applied Foreign Language English Students Class of 2019 – 2020 with public speaking in English; (3) solutions to the lack of confidence for English students of Diponegoro University Applied Foreign Languages Class of 2019 – 2020 with public speaking in English. This research uses a quantitative approach with an exploratory type. Determination of research subjects using simple random sampling techniques. The sample in this study was 54 students of applied foreign language class 2019-2020 specializing in English at Diponegoro University. The instrument used is a questionnaire. The questionnaire used in this study is closed and answered directly by the respondent. The measuring instrument that will be used in this study is to use a modified Likert scale with four alternative answers, namely strongly agree (SS), agree (S), disagree (TS), and strongly disagree (STS). The results showed that the highest number of 54 respondents Students of Applied Foreign Languages at Diponegoro University is Lack of Preparation with average 3.18, while reason chosen with the lowest number of respondents is A Feeling of Incapacity with average 2. The solutions for three highest reasons. There are lack of preparation, the solution is break down the practice into smaller, more doable parts in order to reduce stress and increase performance, the practice should be done in small, manageable pieces. Then stage fright, rather than focusing on the audience, concentrate on the topic. People are more interested in new knowledge than in how it is delivered. They may be unaware of the students' anxiousness. And the last is inferiority or low self-esteem, appreciate what the students achieved. Give pat at the back following the speech or presentation

Abstract

The entry of western cultural influences into Japan brought various kinds of trends, both in the form of technology, science and trends, one of which is the trend of child-free and unmarried, this trend began to be followed by Japanese people, especially in urban areas. child-free and unmarried trends. This research uses descriptive analysis method, describes the current trends in Japanese society, and data obtained from literature studies. The development of this trend has had a major impact on Japan, especially women and on the rate of population growth, the patriarchal culture that has existed for a long time has spurred Japanese women to voice their rights in self-determination. The feminist movement developed and had a great influence on Japanese women. From this trend, it can be concluded that population problems are starting to emerge, including the increasing number of elderly people and the low rate of population growth. In addition, the Japanese government's efforts have emerged so that the rights of Japanese women are fulfilled and population growth increases

Abstract

Sounds made by objects or human voices can form a word. Words formed by imitation of sound are onomatopoeia. In this study the author discusses 'Onomatopoeic Analysis in Japanese and Javanese. This study intends to analyze the similarities and differences on onomatopoeia in Japanese and Javanese. This research will go through three stages of research, namely, data collection, data analysis, and exposure of the results of data analysis. The data collection method in this research is literature study. Onomatopoeia in Japanese includes giseigo, giongo, gitaigo, giyougo, and gijougo. Meanwhile, the word onomatopoeia in Javanese can be said to be small when compared to onomatopoeic research in other languages. It can be concluded that onomatopoeia in Japanese and Javanese have similarities and differences. The similarities are in the classification, usage, and form of the word, while the difference is in the naming.

Abstract

Social media has created new possibilities for digitally native students to engage, interact and collaborate in learning tasks that foster learning processes and the overall learning experience. By using both qualitative and quantitative data, this article discusses the perspectives of Japanese and English students towards social media. As we know, foreign language learning is facilitated by social media and especially for a new generation of students. This paper contributes to an understanding of how language learners’ perspectives on social media. 52 English students and 18 Japanese students participate in the research as the sample. We found that most of the students aware of the benefit of social media for learning languages. Furthermore, the study showed that both English and Japanese students preferred to use English or Indonesian languages to do social media activities such as posting, writing a caption, or commenting than local language or Japanese language. Therefore, Japanese and English students should improve their awareness of social media for language learners.

Abstract

ABSTRAK Desa Kandri dinobatkan sebagai desa wisata karena masih menjaga kelestarian keindahan alamnya dan keaslian budayanya. Sebagai tindak lanjut pengabdian masyarakat yang telah dilaksanakan sebelumnya, maka tim pengabdian bermaksud melaksanakan kegiatan pengembangan pariwisata di desa Kandri. Tujuan dari dilaksanakannya kegiatan ini adalah untuk menerjemahkan buku profil desa wisata Kandri ke dalam bahasa Inggris dan ke dalam bahasa Jepang. Pengabdian ini menggunakan metode sosialisasi guna memberikan edukasi kepada masyarakat secara umum, serta pemandu wisata desa wisata Kandri secara khusus. Hasil dari pengabdian ini adalah penerjemahan buku profil desa wisata Kandri telah diterima dengan baik dan mendapat sambutan yang baik oleh mitra. Serta, mitra pengabdian merasa kegiatan pengabdian ini merasa sangat puas terhadap pelaksanaan kegiatan dan sangat berharap bahwa akan ada tindak lanjut dari kegiatan ini. Setelah melaksanakan pengabdian ini maka tim menyarankan bahwa kegiatan ini perlu dilaksanakan tindak lanjut guna mengembangkan pariwisata di desa Kandri.   Kata Kunci: desa wisata; penerjemahan; pramuwisata; profil; wisata   ABSTRACT Kandri Village has been named a tourist village because it still preserves its natural beauty and cultural authenticity. As a follow-up to the community service that has been carried out previously, the service team intends to carry out tourism development activities in Kandri village. The purpose of carrying out this activity is to translate the Kandri tourist village profile book into English and Japanese. This service uses the socialization method to provide education to the general public and a tour guide for the Kandri tourist village in particular. The result of this service is that the translation of the Kandri tourism village profile book has been well received and received a good reception by partners. Also, the community service partner feels that this service activity is very satisfied with the implementation of the activity and hopes that there will be a follow-up to this activity. Abstract

ABSTRAKPembangunan berkelanjutan (Sustaniable Development) telah menjadi agenda global dalam setiap proses pembangunan. Penerapan konsep pembangunan berkelanjutan di sektor pariwisata dikenal dengan konsep pembangunan pariwisata yang tanggap terhadap minat wisatawan dan keterlibatan langsung dari masyarakat setempat dengan tetap menekankan upaya perlindungan dan pengelolaannya yang berorientasi jangka panjang. Konsep pembangunan pariwisata berkelanjutan tersebut pada intinya menekankan empat prinsip, sebagai berikut: layak secara Ekonomi (Economically Feasible), berwawasan lingkungan (Environmentally Feasible), dapat diterima secara sosial (Socially Accepable), dapat diterapkan secara teknologi (Technologically Appropriate). Tujuan dari dilaksanakannya kegiatan ini adalah untuk memberikan pelatihan bahasa Inggris dan bahasa Jepang bagi para pramuwisata desa wisata Kandri. Hasil dari pengabdian ini adalah berupa pengayaan pengetahuan bahasa yang didapat para pramuwisata.Kata Kunci: desa wisata; penerjemahan; pramuwisata; profil; wisataABSTRACTSustainable development has become a global agenda in every development process. The application of the concept of sustainable development in the tourism sector is known as the concept of tourism development that is responsive to tourist interest and direct involvement of the local community while still emphasizing protection and management efforts that are long-term oriented. The concept of sustainable tourism development emphasizes four principles: Economically Feasible, Environmentally Feasible, Socially Acceptable, and Technologically Appropriate. This activity aims to provide English and Japanese language training for Kandri tourist village tour guides. Abstract

Abstract

ABSTRAKMelalui Instruksi Presiden No 9 tahun 2016, pemerintah mengerahkan seluruh stakeholder SMK pada setiap intansi pemerintahan mulai tingkat kementerian, badan pemerintahan dan pemerintah daerah (Provinsi) untuk memberikan dukungan yang semaksimal mungkin terhadap Revitalisasi SMK dalam rangka peningkatan kualitas dan daya  saing SDM Indonesia. Di dalam era Masyarakat Ekonomi Asean (MEA) saat ini, SMK ini dituntut untuk dapat menjadi sekolah yang menyiapkan tenaga kerja yang kompeten dibidangnya, guna memenuhi tuntutan industri kreatif untuk menghadapi MEA. Bahasa Inggris merupakan salah satu kemampuan yang wajib dimiliki oleh siswa dalam menyongsong MEA dan globalisasi. Metode wawancara serta penelitian dan pengembangan digunakan dalam penelitian ini. Berdasarkan wawancara yang dilakukan, diperoleh data bahwa kemampuan bahasa Inggris khususnya tata bahasa merupakan momok yang menakutkan dan menyulitkan untuk para siswa. Oleh karena itu, salah satu alternatif yang bisa dilakukan adalah dengan membuat sebuah media yang menarik untuk mempelajari tata bahasa Inggris adalah dengan penyusunan Grammar Magazine yang merupakan salah satu produk penyelesaikan permasalah pembelajaran dan pengajaran grammar atau tata bahasa di tingkat SMK.Kata Kunci: Grammar Magazine, SMK, Tata Bahasa, Bahasa Inggris ABSTRACTPresidential Instruction No. 9 of 2016 orders all SMK stakeholders to provide the maximum possible support for Vocational Revitalization in order to improve the quality and competitiveness of Indonesian human resources. In the ASEAN Economic Community (MEA) era, vocational school is required to prepare a competent workforce. English is one of the skills that must be mastered by students. Interview and research and development methods were used in this study. Based on the interviews conducted, the English language especially grammar was the most difficult for students. Therefore, one alternative is creating an interesting medium for studying English grammar, Grammar Magazine which is one of the products for solving learning problems and teaching grammar vocational school level.Keywords: Grammar Magazine, Vocational High School, Grammar, English
