Abstract

EESP millennial students, based on the result of preliminary study, expecting preferred learning strategies to be applied by the EESP lecturers, especially in pandemic situation. Relating to this, a study conducted to find out the English Education Study Program millennial students’ preferred learning strategies by referring to learning preferences on millennial’s theory suggested by Krishnan (2020). A questionnaire distributed to 120 millennial students of EESP as the participants of this research, and then the descriptive qualitative method applied to analyze the data gotten. The result showed that the strategies mentioned in the theory that are customized content based on individual learning preferences, learn new concepts to practically apply to different scenarios, cross-functional learning with strong feedback loops, preference for non-structured learning environments, and group learning to explore, engage, enquire and achieve as the strategies to teach the millennial students, preferred by the EESP millennial students at Artha Wacana Christian University. Besides, they also prefer more chances to have inquiry-based learning, more activities that engage them in communicative learning, more group discussion, and more audio-visual materials. Therefore, EESP educators and non-EESP educators need to consider and apply those prefer strategies to meet the needs of the millennial students in learning

Abstract

This article discusses the language form and the symbolic function of quotes or slogans on transportation around Kupang city. The data of this study were collected directly from the transportation around the streets. They were analyzed using qualitative methods, while the symbolic functions were analyzed using a critical discourse analysis model. It found that land transportation uses multi-languages, English, Indonesian, Kupang Malay, Uab Meto (Dawan), Rote, Sabu, Hebrew, Latin, and Betawi. Some use a particular style of language, such as p27den, and a combination of two or more languages or dialects. English is the most dominant language used. The lack of local languages shows massive cultural changes and people's attitudes toward local languages. The linguistic unit consists of words, phrases, clauses, sentences, and acronyms. English is dominant in each linguistic unit except in acronyms. The quotes represent six themes: love, religion, music, power, family, and regionalism. In general, They carry two functions, power relations, and identity.

Abstract

This article discusses signs in the form of writing in public spaces, especially found on bemo (public transportation) in Kupang city through a linguistic landscape approach. The topics discussed are the language used, the form of the language, the dominance of the language, and the perception of the people. Data were obtained from photographs with digital cameras and interviews with informants and then analyzed qualitatively. As a result, the language used on the bemo is multilingual and dominated by English in the form of words, phrases, clauses, sentences, and acronyms. English dominates in each lingual unit except in the form of acronyms. Regarding the use of language in public spaces, especially the written language found on bemo, people feel happy if they find their language visible in public spaces. Therefore, the respondent expected and suggested that it is important to maintain their language. However, they are aware that their mother tongue cannot help in terms of the economy, therefore, government intervention through local language policies is needed for the language survival.

Abstract

Tujuan dari kegiatan pengabdian masyarakat ini adalah untuk meningkatkan ketrampilan guru dan tenaga kependidikan di SMPN 3 Fatuleu Barat dalam mengelola perpustakaan. Peserta yang mengikuti kegiatan ini adalah dua orang guru PNS, enam orang guru non-PNS, dan satu pegawai non-PNS. Kegiatan pengabdian kepada masyarakat ini menggunakan metode pelatihan dan praktek pengelolaan perpustakaan, yang mencakup pengembangan koleksi buku referensi, penataan fasilitas perpustakaan, dan pembentukan budaya literasi bagi siswa, guru, dan staf. Pelatihan ini meningkatkan kemampuan guru dan pegawai. Tujuan kegiatan dicapai melalui survei dan wawancara dengan peserta sebelum dan sesudah pelatihan. Dalam proses evaluasi ini, keterampilan peserta dalam pengelolaan perpustakaan dipertimbangkan. Selain itu, kami melihat secara langsung bagaimana perpustakaan diurus dan bagaimana siswa dan karyawan sekolah menggunakannya. Analisis data kuantitatif dari hasil survei serta data kualitatif dari wawancara dan observasi menghasilkan kesimpulan dari kegiatan ini. Hasil menunjukkan bahwa ada peningkatan ketrampilan dalam pengelolaan perpustakaan oleh guru dan tendik di SMPN 3 Fatuleu Barat.

Abstract

This article aimed in finding out the correlation between students’ scores in listening and pronunciation tests, the degree of the correlation, and the contribution of listening towards pronunciation and vice versa. It is a correlational study to find out the correlation between listening and pronunciation and chose 25 students of first semester as the representative subjects in conducting this research. The result shows that there is a correlation between listening and pronunciation skills, which are shown by the index of correlation, that are 0, 008 and 0, 031 as the results of both tests given. These results are classified as a slight correlation. So, there is no significant contribution for both variable.

Abstract

As a tourist destination center in the capital of East Nusa Tenggara Province, Kupang City has several types of popular tourist destinations. Spread across six sub-districts, tourist destinations in Kupang City that are the object of this research are: 1) Warna Nunsui Beach in Kelapa Lima, 2) Monkey Cave in Alak, 3) Japanese Monument in Maulafa, 4) Ketapang Beach in Kota Lama, 5) NTT State Museum in Oebobo, and 6) Arjuna Park in Kota Raja. In addition, the quality of each tourist attraction in Kupang City is also researched based on the Sapta Pesona indicator. This qualitative research aims to explore information and perceptions of tourists who have visited or are visiting tourist sites in Kupang City through surveys. The seven indicators of Sapta Pesona consist of elements of safety, order, cleanliness, coolness, beauty, friendliness, and memories. The survey results show that the tourist charm in Kupang City provides sufficient satisfaction for tourists in the six tourist attractions in six sub-districts. In addition, the results of this survey can also be used as a reference for tourist site managers and the government through the local tourism office for the evaluation process and efforts to improve the quality of services and management of popular tourist objects in Kupang City in order to meet the standards and indicators of Sapta Pesona.

Abstract

Kualitas pembelajaran Bahasa Inggris di daerah masih terkendala keterbatasan sumber daya, minimnya pelatihan guru, dan rendahnya motivasi siswa. Kegiatan pengabdian kepada masyarakat di SMP Negeri 8 Fatuleu Satu Atap, Kabupaten Kupang, NTT, dilaksanakan untuk menjawab tantangan ini melalui dua strategi: English Fun Camp bagi siswa dan pelatihan pemanfaatan Artificial Intelligence (AI) bagi guru. Menggunakan pendekatan partisipatif-edukatif, siswa dan guru terlibat aktif dalam kegiatan interaktif dan praktis. Fun Camp yang memadukan permainan bahasa, lagu, kuis, dan roleplay terbukti meningkatkan motivasi, partisipasi, kepercayaan diri, serta penguasaan kosakata dan struktur kalimat secara kontekstual. Pelatihan AI membekali guru dengan keterampilan menggunakan teknologi seperti ChatGPT dan Canva AI untuk menyusun RPP, media ajar, asesmen, dan tugas administratif, mempercepat kerja sekaligus memberi alternatif pembelajaran yang adaptif. AI diposisikan sebagai alat bantu, bukan pengganti peran guru. Program ini memperkuat sinergi antara dosen, mahasiswa, dan sekolah mitra, serta membuka peluang kemitraan berkelanjutan. Integrasi pembelajaran interaktif dan literasi teknologi di sekolah tertinggal, terdepan, dan terluar berpotensi signifikan meningkatkan mutu pendidikan, sehingga direkomendasikan untuk direplikasi di daerah lain dengan tantangan serupa.

Abstract

The title of this research is the influence of bingo games on seventh-grade students' vocabulary mastery at Surya Mandala Junior High School. The research problem: Does bingo games influence seventh-grade students' vocabulary mastery? This research aimed to determine whether the Bingo game's use improves students' vocabulary at Surya Mandala Junior High School. This research method was a pre-experimental design with treatment held in three meetings, 2x40 minutes in each meeting. The writer took 15 students from the VII class as a sample in this research. The research design of this research was one group pre-test and post-test design. The population of this research was Seventh Grade Students of Surya Mandala Junior High School, and the sample was one class. In collecting the data, the writers used tests. The writers used the test instrument in the form of multiple choice and essay tests. For analyzing the data, the writer used Pre-test. The data analysis found that the result of the Pre-Test was 26.67 % of 4 students and post-test 1 was 60% of 9; after applying the bingo game, the last post-test retreatment and playing the game was 100% of 15 students. This result is consulted to the score of the value significant generated Sig. Therefore, H0 is rejected, and Ha is accepted. There is a significant influence of using bingo games on students' vocabulary mastery.
