Abstract

Animaker, as one of the digital storytelling tools to write a descriptive text in the learning intervention, is promoted in this pilot study. As a part of a classroom action research, this study is conducted to build the students’ digital storytelling literacy. Firstly, it aims at investigating the students’ challenges of using Animaker as a medium to write a descriptive text. Secondly, it is to describe how the aspects of digital storytelling were promoted by Animaker. A descriptive qualitative method is used to analyze the data gained from a questionnaire and the document of students’ animated videos created by using Animaker. The results found that the process of inserting audio files was the most difficult to do for 80% of the students. Around 20%-40% of them were also challenged by the way of adjusting the duration and the volume of the audio inserted on each page. The use of Animaker also promoted the students’ diverged digital storytelling literacy in 11 aspects; the topic, purpose, creator, audience, organization, narration, multimedia, educational value, mechanics, sources, and originality. Then, it is suggested that the use of Animaker should apply certain strategies to minimize the challenges and to increase the students’ digital storytelling literacy. Finally, the researchers recommend this tool to be used frequently in EFL learning as a tool to reinforce the students’ digital storytelling literacy.

Abstract

This study aims to identify and describe the modes and techniques used by interpreters in the process of interpreting sermons at Potter's House Christian Ministries. This research is a descriptive qualitative study. This research employed the scrutinizing method for data collection, which entails attentive listening to language usage (Sudaryanto, 1993: 133). The researcher adopted a non-participatory role, serving as mere observer of data without direct involvement in its formation. The study focused on analyzing language usage in two recorded videos of weekly services at Potter's House Christian Ministries. The researcher specifically examined individual sentences as manifestations of data, which were recorded and organized into tables based on criteria such as perspective, vocabulary, and modality. Technique assessment was employed to gather data and assess the impact of different modes and techniques on interpretation. The study reveals that interpreters at Potter's House Christian Ministries primarily employ consecutive interpreting mode, particularly short consecutive interpreting. The researcher also discovered six predominant techniques used during the interpretation process, namely: (1) reformulation, (2) elimination technique, (3) summarization, (4) error correction technique, (5) metaphors and saying technique, and (6) code-switching technique.

Abstract

The main objective of this study was to determine the effect of the Intrapersonal Intelligence strategy in improving students' writing descriptive paragraphs. This study was conducted at SMAN 2 Kupang. The population was 63 students of grade eleven. The method used in this study was a quantitative method using a quasi-experimental design. The instrument was a written test, and the t-test formula was used in the data analysis. The results of this study indicated a significant difference between the experimental group and the control group, with the mean score in the experimental group being 70.6 and the mean score in the control group being 50.6. Whereas in the paired test samples, there were significant results between the pre-test and post-test based on the result of the value, the value of the t-test (15.8) was higher than the value of t-table (2.058) with df = N-2. This showed that the effect of the intrapersonal intelligence strategy can improve students' skills in writing descriptive paragraphs. As the intrapersonal intelligence strategy can develop students' thinking to be broader and more dynamic, it can be used as an alternative teaching strategy in improving students' descriptive paragraph writing. Abstract

The aim of this research is to determine the effect of using English Stories With Level application on students' vocabulary mastery in the seventh grade of SMP Negeri 4 Pematangsiantar in 2024/2025 academic year. The research aimed to determine the effect of using the English Stories With Level Application as a media for learning vocabulary at seventh grade of SMP Negeri 4 Pematangsiantar. The objective of the study was to find out whether this application could significantly improve students' vocabulary mastery. The research utilized a quantitative approach with a quasi-experimental design, which included both a pre-test and post-test. The population consisted of 300 students, from which two classes were selected via cluster random sampling. The experimental group received instruction using English Stories with Level Application, while the control group used conventional media (handbook). Data collection involved administering pre-tests and post-tests to both the experimental and control groups. The descriptive analysis revealed that the mean post-test score for the experimental group was 73.00, while the control group scored 66.50. A paired-sample t-test confirmed a statistically significant difference between the pre-test and post-test scores of the experimental group, with a p-value of 0.000 (p < 0.05), leading to the acceptance of the alternative hypothesis (Ha). This suggested that the use of this application as a media for vocabulary learning was more effective than traditional methods. In conclusion, the research demonstrated that English Stories with Level Application significantly enhanced vocabulary acquisition among seventh grade students.
