Abstract

The study aims to explore students' perspectives on the implementation of collaborative project-based learning (CPBL) in the Engineering Department as a means to enhance their understanding of the subject matter and develop problem-solving abilities. A quasi-experimental design was employed, and data was collected through a semi-structured questionnaire. The results indicate that CPBL has the potential to improve students' speaking and presentation skills in various aspects, including grammar, discourse competence, sociolinguistics, strategic competence, fluency, accuracy, and presentation skills. The study also recommends further investigation into computer-mediated communication within group projects and suggests incorporating controlled and energizing task speaking during comparison evaluations to foster reflective thinking among both teachers and students. In summary, this research highlights the positive impact of CPBL on language and presentation skills within the Engineering Department, emphasizing its potential benefits for student learning.

Abstract

This study examines the cultural politics affecting Indonesian literature in the global literary arena. It analyses how literary politics, standardisation, implicit agendas, and validation systems impact international reception. The study investigates how global literary standards reshape Indonesian narratives to match international preferences, often at the expense of cultural authenticity. In addition, several works by some prominent Indonesian authors, including Toer, Anwar and Kurniawan are being analysed. Using a descriptive-qualitative approach with discourse analysis, interview and case studies, the research reveals three key findings: translation challenges for Indonesian literary works, limited international publication opportunities, and underrepresentation in global literary awards and criticism. Based on these findings, the study advocates for more inclusive literary practices to enhance Indonesian literature’s global visibility while preserving its cultural integrity.

Abstract

Speaking has an essential role in students’ performance in the English language subject. This study aims to investigate 30 English language students who are given video in the experimental class. The results show that there is an improvement of participants’ English-speaking performance which is indicated by the increase of scores between pre-test and post-test through four speaking components, such as fluency, precision, lexical, and syntactical. The most significant increase is found in the precision aspect with a pre-test value of 1.00 and a post-test value of 3.07. The results also reveal that both written and verbal communication can be improved by using the method of video integrated with Bloom’s taxonomy. However, the limited participants of the study and the length of drilling speaking are confirmed as the limitation of the study. Besides, it implies video integrated taxonomy Bloom for reducing anxiety in learning speaking and classroom activities research (CAR) investigation are recommendations for future study. HIGHLIGHTS: Video integrated with Bloom’s taxonomy implies the development of linguistics and intercultural communication competence simultaneously. Video facilitates learners to improve meaning and lexical complexity The more learners practice speaking with video integrated with Bloom’s Taxonomy, the better their critical thinking.
