Abstract

This study was motivated by the importance of arm muscle explosive power in supporting basic volleyball techniques, particularly the overhand serve. The overhand serve is one of the essential basic skills that significantly determines the flow of the game, thus requiring good physical condition, especially strength and arm explosive power. This research aimed to determine the relationship between arm muscle explosive power and overhand serve ability among students participating in volleyball extracurricular activities at SMP Negeri 2 Jujuhan. This research employed a descriptive method with a correlational approach. The population consisted of 20 students who participated in volleyball extracurricular activities, all of whom were taken as the sample. Data were collected using a push-up test to measure arm muscle explosive power and an overhand serve test to measure serving ability. The data were analyzed using the Kolmogorov-Smirnov normality test, descriptive statistics, and Pearson product-moment correlation with the aid of SPSS software. The results showed that most students’ push-up ability was in the poor and very poor categories, whereas most students’ overhand serve ability was in the good category. The product-moment correlation analysis indicated a significant relationship between arm muscle explosive power and overhand serve ability, with a correlation coefficient of 0.509 and a significance value of 0.022. It can be concluded that arm muscle explosive power contributes to students’ overhand serve performance in volleyball extracurricular activities.

Abstract

This study was motivated by the low overhand passing skills of the women’s volleyball players of Club Oryza. This was indicated by the inconsistency of ball accuracy and the lack of arm muscle strength in controlling ball direction. Therefore, a more targeted physical training program is needed to improve the basic ability of overhand passing. The purpose of this research was to determine the effect of push-up and hand grip exercises on improving the overhand passing skills of the women’s volleyball players of Club Oryza. The research method used was a quasi-experimental design with a one-group pretest-posttest model. The population consisted of 40 players, while the sample comprised 20 players selected using purposive sampling. The research instrument was an overhand passing skill test, and the data were analyzed using the Shapiro-Wilk normality test and the Paired Samples T-Test with the assistance of SPSS version 23. The results showed an increase in the average score from the pretest value of 34.1 to the posttest value of 45.8. The Paired Samples T-Test produced a t-count of -12.283 with a significance value of 0.000 < 0.05. When compared to the t-table value at a 5% significance level (df = 19) of 1.7291, the t-count was greater than the t-table. Thus, push-up and hand grip training had a significant and effective influence on improving the overhand passing skills of the women’s volleyball players of Club Oryza.

Abstract

This study aimed to determine the effect of the Ladder Drill training method on improving the agility of SSB Bina Muda Somel players. Agility is one of the essential physical components in football due to the dynamic and fast-paced nature of the game, which requires players to change direction quickly without losing balance. Movements that involve frequent changes of direction, such as shuttle running, demand alternating contractions in specific muscle groups. This study employed an experimental method with a one-group pretest–posttest design. The subjects consisted of 10 players from SSB Bina Muda Somel. The research instrument used was a 40-meter shuttle run test conducted twice before (pretest) and after (posttest) the training program. The Ladder Drill training was implemented over 10 sessions with systematically structured variations. Data were analyzed using the Kolmogorov–Smirnov test for normality and the paired sample t-test for hypothesis testing, assisted by the SPSS program. The results showed a significant improvement in players’ agility after undergoing the Ladder Drill training. The average pretest score was 6.60, and the posttest average increased to 7.90. The t-value of -8.510 with a significance of 0.000 < 0.05 indicates that Ladder Drill training has a significant positive effect on enhancing the agility of SSB Bina Muda Somel players.
