Abstract

Introduction: One of the complex causes of stunting is an unintended pregnancy. Children from unintended pregnancies are at greater risk for stunting than children born from intended pregnancies. This study aims to analyze the association of intended pregnancies with stunting events in children under 5 years old. Methods: This systematic review used PRISMA-P protocol (Preferred Reporting Items for Systemic Review and Meta-Analysis Protocols) in 2009. Studies were collected through search in the source data Scopus, Google Scholar, PubMed from January 2015 through May 2018. Keywords search used PICO- S (Population Intervention Compare Outcome-Study design) technique. 278 studies were found and five studies were included in this study. Results: From the 5 studies reviewed, it was found that unintended pregnancies can be the cause of stunting in the range 1.25 to 2.19 times higher than the intended pregnancy. Conclusion: We found a significant relationship between unintended pregnancies among 5 countries (Bangladesh, Nepal, India, Northern Malawi, and Indonesia) with stunting in children under 5 years’ old.

Abstract

The family is considered a fundamental institution that plays an important role in the formation of individuals, especially during the challenging teenage years. When one of the parents is not present, there is an imbalance in psychological development. Fatherless becomes interesting in relation to the unequal parenting of parents. Where the absence of a father in a teenager's life can be caused by the death or divorce of parents, resulting in children not being able to feel the love or presence of a father and experiencing emotional, intellectual and social problems in their lives. This research aims to determine the effect of fatherlessness on the self-control of adolescents who have lost the role of fathers both psychologically and socially. The method used in this research is a literature review.

Abstract

Teenage pregnancy, which is a major public health problem for mothers and childrens, is often associated with adverse health impacts, especially on maternal and child health. This study aims to analyze the impact of teenage pregnancy on maternal and child health. This systematic review uses the PRISMA-P Protocol (Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analysis Protocols). Studies were collected through searches on the Google Scholar data source, PubMed from 2019 to 2023. Searching for key data using the PICO-S (Population Intervention Compare Outcome - Study Design) technique, 1025 studies were found and nine studies were included in this research. From the nine studies reviewed, it was found that teenage pregnancy has an impact on maternal and child health such as obstetric complications (eclampsia, premature labor, anemia during childbirth, postpartum bleeding, hypertension in pregnancy, HELLP and LBW syndrome) and can have an impact stunting in children born. Teenage pregnancy has an impact on the health of the mother and child by causing various health complications.

Abstract

Damage to various organs, including the central nervous system, can lead to cerebrovascular diseases resulting in a decline in cognitive function, often unnoticed by type 2 diabetes mellitus (DM) patients. The decline in cognitive function can manifest in various forms, ranging from difficulty in remembering (forgetfulness), mild cognitive impairment (MCI), to dementia as the most severe clinical form. Early detection of cognitive function decline in the pre-elderly period is crucial for timely intervention or efforts to inhibit the progression of disorders. Early detection in the pre-elderly period is a step towards preventing cognitive function decline in the elderly. Objective of this research to determine the differences in cognitive function among pre-elderly patients with type 2 DM and non-DM at Prof. Dr. M. Ali Hanafiah Batusangkar Regional Hospital. The method used is a quantitative comparative approach with a cross-sectional design. The accessible population in the study consists of pre-elderly patients with type 2 DM and non-DM at Prof. Dr. M. Ali Hanafiah Batusangkar Regional Hospital, totaling 60 samples using consecutive sampling techniques. Univariate data analysis is presented in the form of frequency distribution, and bivariate analysis uses the chi-square test, with data processing using the IBM SPSS version 25.0 computerized program. Patients with DM experience more cognitive function disorders (96.7%). The statistical test using the chi-square test yielded a value of p=0.001 (p<0.05), indicating a difference in cognitive function between type 2 DM and non-DM patients at Prof. Dr. M. Ali Hanafiah Batusangkar Regional Hospital. Pre-elderly patients with type 2 DM are more likely to experience cognitive function disorders, whereas non-DM pre-elderly individuals mostly have normal cognitive function. There is a difference in cognitive function between type 2 DM and non-DM patients at Prof. Dr. M. Ali Hanafiah Batusangkar Regional Hospital

Abstract

Acute appendicitis is an abdominal emergency requiring immediate surgical intervention. Acute appendicitis is defined as acute inflammation of the appendix wall which is usually caused by obstruction of the appendix lumen. The development of an inflammatory process in acute appendicitis can result in perforation, abscess, illegality, peritonitis, or death if not managed properly. Objective: To determine the characteristics of acute appendicitis patients at DR. M. Djamil Padang in 2017 – 2019. Methods: The research design used was a categorical descriptive study with retrospective data collection methods. The population in this study were patients diagnosed with acute appendicitis at DR. M. Djamil Padang in 2017 – 2019 with 112 samples using total sampling technique. The research data were analyzed using the univariate test and presented in the form of frequency and percentage distribution tables. Results: Characteristics of acute appendicitis patients at RSUP DR. M. Djamil Padang, based on age, acute appendicitis mostly occurred in the late adolescent age group (17 – 25 years). Characteristics based on sex, acute appendicitis mostly occured in males – 64 people (57.1%). Characteristics based on modified Alvarado score at most with a score of 9 (Definite acute appendicitis) – 62 people (55.4%). The most characteristics based on the management of acute appendicitis was open appendectomy – 97 people (86.6%). Conclusion: The result of this study show that acute appendicitis in late adolescents with an age range of 17 – 25 years. Acute appendicitis mostly in males with the most modified Alvarado score with 9 scores and open appendectomy was the main choice.
