Abstract

Excessive use of gadgets has led to a significant increase in cases of asthenopia and visual impairment. Lack of awareness and access to preventive care methods means eye health problems are increasingly growing in society. Therefore, a MataSehatKu landing page was developed which can help users get to know and download the MataSehatKu application. The MataSehatKU landing page displays an explanation and mockup of the MataSehatKU mobile-based application which provides features such as eye exercises, independent eye examinations for initial screening, graphs of refractive errors over time, and education about healthy lifestyles for the eyes, which are designed to reduce risk. visual impairment. The design of the MataSehatKU landing page was carried out using the design think method which consists of the stages empathize, define, ideate, prototype and test. The initial stage is to collect primary and secondary data through observation, questionnaires, competitor analysis, and literature studies for analysis. Data related to problems faced by users is used as a basis for forming feature design solutions and prototypes. The prototype is then tested on users to evaluate the obstacles and problems faced, so that improvements can be made. This development resulted in a UI design for the MataSehatKU landing page which provides optimal experience and convenience for users in achieving their goals with a SUS value of 84.6 and UEQ obtained on an attractiveness scale of 1.51 is at an above average level, a clarity scale of 1.69 is at an above average level, an efficiency scale of 1.74 is at a good level, an accuracy scale of 1.81 is at an excellent level, a stimulation scale of 1.03 is at an above average level, a novelty scale of 0.78 is at an above average level.

Abstract

The Rapid Assessment of Avoidable Blindness (RAAB) surveys provide crucial information for planning and evaluating eye health initiatives, particularly in low- and middle-income countries where data systems are often limited. RAAB results are analyzed to estimate the prevalence of visual impairment and to assess cataract surgical coverage across populations. However, despite their rich individual-level data, RAAB surveys have rarely been explored for predictive modeling that could proactively identify people most vulnerable to blindness. This study sought to address that gap by developing and validating interpretable machine-learning models capable of predicting individuals at the highest risk of avoidable blindness. We used RAAB 2016 data collected from seven provinces across Indonesia, comprising a large and diverse sample of older adults. Two modeling approaches—a calibrated Extreme Gradient Boosting (XGBoost) algorithm and a Logistic LASSO regression—were trained and evaluated. Both models demonstrated outstanding discrimination (AUC ≈ 0.96) and strong calibration performance (Brier score ≈ 0.02), ensuring that predictions corresponded well to actual outcomes. Key predictors consistently selected across methods included increasing age, presence or absence of lens opacity, self-reported functional difficulty in seeing or mobility, and lack of corrective spectacles. To enhance usability in field settings, we also derived a simplified point-score tool from the LASSO model. Decision-curve analysis confirmed that the model could offer substantial clinical and operational benefit by guiding targeted outreach where resources are limited. Overall, this work highlights predictive analytics as promising extension of the RAAB framework, enabling more precise and efficient public eye health strategies in Indonesia.

Abstract

Background: Asthenopia is common among computer users, yet limited evidence exists regarding interventions targeting office workers. Mobile health technologies offer new opportunities to promote ocular health in technology-intensive work environments. Purpose: This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of the MataSehatKu mobile eye-exercise application in reducing asthenopia among office workers in the information technology sector. Method: A quasi-experimental pre-test–post-test control group design was conducted with 39 office workers (17 intervention, 22 control) selected by purposive sampling. Asthenopia levels were measured using the Digital Eye Strain Questionnaire (DES-Q) before and after a two-week intervention. Result: The intervention group showed a significant reduction in mean asthenopia scores (8.82 ± 5.13 to 2.71 ± 1.96; mean decrease = 6.11; p < 0.001), while the control group showed a significant increase (12.45 ± 9.10 to 19.82 ± 12.91; mean increase = 7.36; p < 0.001). Between-group post-test comparison revealed significantly lower scores in the intervention group (p < 0.001). Effect size analysis indicated a large impact (Cohen’s d = 1.57 within-group; d = 1.74 between-groups). Conclusion: The MataSehatKu application effectively reduced asthenopia among office workers, supporting the potential of mobile health–based eye-exercise programs as scalable occupational health strategies.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the difference in comfort between the use of glasses and contact lenses in alumni ofthe 15th batch of Al-KautsarIslamic Boarding School Banjar. The focus of the research is directed atthe subjectiveexperience of users in daily activities involving physical, psychological, and social aspects. The research methodused was descriptive qualitative with a semi-structured interview technique conducted through telephone mediawith three informants who were selected purposively because they had experience using both visual aidsalternately in daily life. Data were analyzed through the preparation of interview guidelines, recording, transcripts, interpretation, and drawing conclusions. The results show that contact lenses are preferred becausethey provide visual comfort and support aesthetics, but are at risk of irritation if not properly maintained. Incontrast, glasses are considered safer, practical, and easier to maintain, but they can put physical strain on thenose and ears. The use of visual aids is situational and adaptive, depending on visual comfort, environment, andsocial needs. These findingsreflect Kolcaba's theory of comfort, with dimensions of relief, ease, and transcendenceseen in physical, psychospiritual, environmental, and social contexts.
