Abstract

Complete basic immunisation is a key public health intervention to prevent infectious diseases in infants. However, immunisation coverage remains suboptimal, particularly due to limited maternal knowledge and negative perceptions. This study aimed to assess the effect of health education on mothers’ attitudes toward complete basic immunisation in Tembung Village, Deli Serdang Regency. A pre-experimental one-group pretest–posttest design was employed, involving 20 mothers with infants, purposively selected from three hamlets with low immunisation coverage. The intervention consisted of interactive health education addressing the benefits, schedule, and common post-immunisation reactions. Maternal attitudes were measured using structured questionnaires before and after the intervention and analysed descriptively. The results demonstrated an improvement in positive attitudes across all indicators following education, including acceptance of immunisation despite concerns about side effects and access barriers. These findings indicate that community-based health education effectively enhances maternal acceptance of immunisation. Nevertheless, short-term evaluation may be subject to social desirability bias, underscoring the need for sustained, repeated educational interventions.

Abstract

Stunting remains a major public health problem that requires community-based interventions and the utilization of local food resources. One of the innovations developed is TONJANGPIS shredded product (Tuna Fish and Banana Blossom Shredded Product), a nutritious local food with the potential to support stunting prevention efforts. This study aimed to analyze the effectiveness of TONJANGPIS production training in improving the knowledge and skills of Healthy Kitchen for Stunting Prevention (DASHAT) cadres. A quasi-experimental study with a one-group pretest-posttest design was conducted involving 50 DASHAT cadres in Belawan District. The intervention consisted of health education sessions, demonstrations, and hands-on training in TONJANGPIS production. Data were collected using knowledge questionnaires and skill observation sheets before and after the training. The results showed that cadres’ knowledge increased from 40% during the pretest to 90% during the posttest. Participants also demonstrated improved skills in processing, packaging, and promoting TONJANGPIS as a nutritious local food product. TONJANGPIS training was effective in enhancing the capacity of DASHAT cadres and can serve as a sustainable community empowerment strategy to support stunting prevention through the utilization of local food resources.

Abstract

ABSTRACTBackground: Stunting is a major public health issue in Indonesia, with a prevalence rate of 19.8%. Addressing this challenge requires coordinated action across multiple health disciplines, yet educational resources to promote interprofessional collaboration in stunting prevention remain limited. Aims: To develop an interprofessional education (IPE) module for undergraduate students across five health-related disciplines - medicine, nursing, midwifery, nutrition, and physiotherapy - and evaluate its effectiveness. Methods: Using an Educational Design Research, the study developed and tested the module through an iterative process. Participants' knowledge and collaboration readiness were assessed using pre- and post-tests and the Readiness for Interprofessional Learning Scale (RIPLS). Results: Wilcoxon signed-rank tests showed that the IPE module significantly improved students' knowledge about stunting prevention (p < .001, Z = 4.239, r = .80) and readiness for interprofessional collaboration (p = .016, Z = 2.409, r = .46). Thematic analysis of student reflections revealed improved understanding of the roles and contributions of different health professions, better awareness of the value of interdisciplinary collaboration, and an appreciation for community engagement in stunting prevention. Challenges identified included interpersonal and communication issues, time constraints, and overlapping responsibilities among professions. They also provided suggestions for module improvement, such as involving more programs from health and nonhealth disciplines and enhancing content depth. Conclusion: The study's findings suggest that IPE is an effective tool for equipping future healthcare professionals to address complex health issues such as stunting, and that the approach should be expanded and refined for broader application in health education.

Abstract

Background: Perineal rupture is a common complication during vaginal delivery that may cause bleeding, pain, infection, and postpartum complications. In Indonesia, the incidence of perineal rupture remains high, with 83% of women experiencing rupture during vaginal birth in 2020. Prenatal gentle yoga is a non-pharmacological intervention focusing on breathing, relaxation, and controlled stretching to improve maternal readiness during labor. Purpose: This study aimed to determine the effect of prenatal gentle yoga on the incidence and degree of perineal rupture. Methods: A quasi-experimental study with a post-test-only control group design was conducted. The study included 26 participants selected through quota sampling, comprising 13 mothers who participated in prenatal gentle yoga (intervention group) and 13 mothers who did not participate (control group). Differences between the two groups were analyzed using the Mann–Whitney U test. Results: No statistically significant difference was observed in the incidence of perineal rupture between the intervention and control groups (p = 0.071). However, a significant difference was found in the severity of perineal rupture (p = 0.005), with women who participated in prenatal gentle yoga experiencing less severe perineal tears than those in the control group. Conclusion: Prenatal gentle yoga did not significantly affect the incidence of perineal rupture but significantly reduced the degree of perineal rupture during vaginal delivery.
