Abstract

The development of digital technology makes it easy for humans to do activities, including compliance with the requirement of voice, data, and video communication in office buildings. Infrastructures are a primary consideration for a reliable connection, large-capacity, and stable communication lines. Recently, Fiber-optic communication systems are now the backbone of information signal delivery technology. This paper proposes a design of optical fiber transmission media for deployment in urban office buildings. It has been called fiber to the building (FTTB), which uses a fiber optic communication system to support the availability of multimedia network in an office area. A typical office building in an urban area has a multilevel structure that is used by various companies with multimedia network access services to support business activities. This study considers XGPON technology as a fiber optic-based broadband access technology that is deemed appropriate to the needs of the use of a multimedia network. The design begins with conducting a data collection survey. The next is the chosen device components based on the estimated distribution of the number of users. There are three parameters will be calculated include Power Link Budget (PLB), Rise Time Budget (RTB), and Bit Error Rate (BER), to determine the design feasibility. Based on PLB, RTB, and BER data, the proposed fiber to the building (FTTB) can meet the parameters to be achieved in the design, namely PLB of -27,24 dBm for downstream and -11,68 dBm for upstream, the value of is 0,049 ns, and value of BER is 0,186 x 10-1085. The design of FTTB can meet the requirement of users with a bandwidth of 9014,4 Mbps for 1200 users.

Abstract

This research proposed microstrip antenna design using the Defected Ground Structure (DGS) and horizontal patch gap (HPG) for bandwidth and enhancement purposes. This design is to reduce the weakness of a microstrip antenna, which has small gain and narrow bandwidth. The design was simulated in CST Microwave Studio with a working frequency of 2.4 GHz. The design consists of three stages model, i.e., conventional design, DGS modification, and the combination DGS using a Horizontal Patch Gap (DGSHPG). The radius of the conventional circular patch is 16.7 mm. The substrate has 4.6 of dielectric constant, 1.6 of substrate height, and 0.025 of the loss tangent. The simulation results show that the DGS design produces more bandwidth and gain than a conventional design, where the bandwidth and gain improvement are 421.2 MHz and 1.73 dB, respectively. The DGS model is combined with a gap that separates the circular patch (DGSHPG) to achieve the optimum design. The results show the bandwidth and gain improvement of more than 50% and 18.1% compared to the DGS design, respectively. Other parameter performance also shows improvement, such as a reflection factor with -53.3 dB at the center frequency. The physical change also influences the patch’s radius, where it is reduced around 1.4 mm or 8.4% from the original design. Overall, the proposed design has succeeded in achieving bandwidth and gain enhancement and reducing the patch dimension.

Abstract

In Indonesia, E-waste continues to grow rapidly, along with the increasing use of electronic goods such as telecommunications devices, households, offices, etc. Although it can be recycled, only a small portion can be done, and the recycling process is still under minimal control. Most E-waste is categorized as hazardous and toxic material waste. E-waste has a very high hazard impact if it is not recycled properly and correctly, such as polluting, damaging, and endangering the environment. This article uses forecasting of e-waste growth and canalization e-waste in Indonesia. The first data was obtained from EWasteRJ, a social community engaged in e-waste collection. The second data is obtained from questionnaires distributed to 110 respondents, focusing on knowledge and ways of handling E-waste. Using statistical analysis on both data shows that the amount of E-waste in Indonesia continues to increase every year, and public awareness of the dangers of E-waste is increasing.

Abstract

The evolution of communication network comes from the need for users to stay connected anytime and anywhere. Modernization of the network continues to be done to increase bandwidth capacity in order to obtain an increase in multimedia services, especially in urban areas. Of various transmission media, optical fiber is the best choice to support reliable communication networks. One of the optical fiber communication technologies is Fiber to the Home (FTTH). This study proposes FTTH network design with Gigabit Capable Passive Optical Network (GPON) technology aimed at housing in urban areas. The design uses aerial and duct-aerial cabling sy stems. The design analysis is carried out based on the parameters of the link power budget, rise time, Bit Error Rate (BER), components and costs required. The value of the power budget link for the uplink and downlink are -22.792 dBm and -23.120 dBm. The rise time value for uplink and downlink are 0.256 ns and 0.258 ns, while the BER value is 14.628 x 10-12. The calculation results show that the design meets the required parameters, hence, the proposed network can be implemented. For the cost components required by the aerial system, it is 11.56% less than of the duct-aerial sistem.

Abstract

Air transportation is one of transportation modes with a significant increase in the number of passengers. However, air transportation sometimes is threatened by terrorism act and sabotages, mostly caused by negligence in detecting dangerous metal items. THz wave can be used as imaging because it is safe and has a high spatial resolution. However, THz waves are vulnerable to diffraction. In this paper, diffraction studies and metal imaging simulations of THz waves were carried out using CST Microwave Studio software. The simulation used a bowtie antenna-coupled bolometer as a sensor, due to its simple design and wide bandwidth. Simulations were carried out with various types of antennas with working frequencies of 1 THz, 3 THz, and 5 THz. Variations of plane wave polarization (Ex and Ey polarization) were also performed for each type of antennas. Simulations with increased frequency produce more accurate images because they have smaller diffraction effect and greater spatial resolution. Simulations with Ex polarization produces a better image in contrast because it has a parallel movement of the electric field with the sensor.

Abstract

Fixed Wireless Access (FWA) is one of the popular use cases in 5G, expected to replace conventional internet service. However, investing in a telecommunications project requires massive capital, so careful planning is usually required. In general, investments are valued by the standard Net Present Value (NPV) method. When the NPV is positive, the project is profitable. However, the NPV possibly will not be as expected due to uncertainty in the future. One of these is the number of subscribers. This research proposes using Real Option (RO) to analyze the FWA project with an uncertainty of the number of subscribers and compare it to the standard NPV method. From the result of the research, the standard NPV method produces a positive Expected NPV of $153,176. However, there is a 33% possibility that the NPV will be -$406,246. By using the decision tree in RO to evaluate the project, the managers have an option to delay the project from one to three years and eliminate negative NPV resulting in the Expected NPV of $250,038, $216,842, and $188,371. Using Black Scholes Model to delay the project from one to three years also results in a higher Expected NPV of $220,668, $209,593, and $219,428.

Abstract

Labuan Bajo and Komodo National Park (KNP) are the government's agendas in the tourism sector by making the area a premium tourist destination. On that basis, the tourism potential of the region requires infrastructure development to support this plan. One of the critical infrastructures is telecommunications, where the region does not have a direct fiber-optic line. In this paper, the authors propose two scenarios design of fiber-optic networks that also consider the potential for an upward fault earthquake in the northern waters of Labuan Bajo and KNP. The design is analyzed using calculation results of the power link budget, rise time, bit error rate (BER), and Signal to Noise Ratio. The BER value obtained is 5.63 x 10-13, which is still below the parameter threshold of 10-12 with a design that avoids the epicenter of the disaster and a longer route. The SNR value on the longest route (route 7) is 34.69 dB. The SNR value has met the SNR standard, which is 21.5 dB.

Abstract

The telecommunications industry plays a role in meeting the needs of digital connectivity services to the community, especially in line with the community's need for internet connections which is increasing rapidly. As one of the telecommunications service operators in Indonesia, "PT. MNO Indonesia" must meet this need to get maximum profit and the best service to the customers with the right business strategy. However, the current connectivity business model is still the mainstay, with revenue levels that tend to stagnate and even experience a decline. The provision of network services and investment in infrastructure development are still the main concerns, so a change in business strategy is needed. This study proposes several recommendations for business strategies to increase revenue based on reviewing and analyzing financial data and statistics for Indonesian and international telecommunications businesses. In this study, financial report data and digital sector statistical data were analyzed and divided into four aspects: traffic, finance, network development, and digital service with the min-max method, standard deviation, and average. From the analysis conducted in this research, "PT. MNO Indonesia" needs to transform its business into digital business model.
