Abstract

Hallucinations are perceptual disorders where the patient perceives something that is not actually happening. An application of the five senses without any external stimulation. An appreciation experienced by a perception through the five senses without external stimulus: False perception. In contrast to illusions where the patient experiences a wrong perception of the stimulus, misperceptions in hallucinations occur without any external stimulus occurring. Internal stimuli are perceived as something that actually exists by the patient. The aim of this research is to gain real experience in providing nursing care to patients with auditory hallucinations, it is hoped that they will be able to identify all problems that occur in connection with hallucinations. The methods used in writing this paper are the library method, interview method and observation method. The results of the research showed that the nursing problems found were in the case of patients with auditory hallucinations based on the theory that there were three nursing diagnoses, namely: Risk of harm to self, others and the environment related to auditory hallucinations; Changes in sensory perception: auditory hallucinations related to withdrawal; Impaired social interactions: Withdrawal is associated with low self-esteem. The conclusion is that hallucinations often occur in schizophrenia patients with nursing problems of low self-esteem and/or withdrawal.

Abstract

ARI cases dominate globally morbidity and mortality rates. ARI prevalence is increasing annually in the Padang city. This study aims to determine the determinants of the incidence of ARI in the Pauh Public Health Center. A quantitative study using a cross-sectional design was used. From October to December 2022, 141 mothers having children under five years took part in this study. Purposive sampling was used to collect the sample. Data was gathered using a structured questionnaire and analyzed univariately and bivariate using the chi-square test. The results showed that 64.5% of mothers were at risk, and more than half were at low educational and economic levels (71,6%) and (51,1%). There is a significant relationship between smoking habits (p=0.00; PR=1.53), immunization status (p=0.00; PR=1.80), and level of mother’s knowledge (p=0 .00; PR=1.68) with the incidence of ARI in children under five years. ARI in children under five years was significantly associated with smoking habits, immunization status and mother’s knowledges. It is hoped that family members, especially parents, will be more involved in their children's health and development, and that health workers can regularly educate the public about maternal and child health, especially ARI prevention, through various media and activate health cadres.

Abstract

The coverage of tetanus toxoid immunization in pregnant women in West Sumatra in 2022 was still below the target, at 69.9%, with a goal of 90%. Among the 23 community health centers (Puskesmas) in Padang City, Dadok Tunggul Hitam Community Health Center had the lowest tetanus toxoid immunization coverage (15.72%), far below the target of 90%. The aim of this study is to identify the factors associated with the completeness of tetanus toxoid immunization in pregnant women at Dadok Tunggul Hitam Community Health Center in 2024. This is a quantitative study with an analytical approach and a cross-sectional study design. The research was conducted at Dadok Tunggul Hitam Community Health Center in Padang from March to August 2024. Data collection took place from May 13 to May 28, 2024. The population consisted of all third-trimester pregnant women, totaling 221, with a sample of 69 respondents. The sampling technique used was accidental sampling. The data were analyzed univariately in the form of frequency distribution and bivariately using the Chi-Square statistical test. The results showed that more than half of the pregnant women, 37 respondents (53.6%), had incomplete tetanus toxoid immunization. Less than half, 31 respondents (44.9%), had low knowledge. More than half, 44 respondents (63.8%), lacked family support, and less than half, 18 respondents (41.9%), perceived that healthcare workers played a minimal role. There is a significant relationship between knowledge level, family support, and the role of healthcare workers with the completeness of tetanus toxoid immunization in pregnant women at Dadok Tunggul Hitam Community Health Center in Padang in 2024.In conclusion, knowledge, family support, and the role of healthcare workers are associated with the completeness of tetanus toxoid immunization. It is hoped that healthcare providers, particularly nurses, will improve basic immunization services by providing information to pregnant women through health education sessions and distributing leaflets or posters about tetanus toxoid immunization.

Abstract

Education is a key factor in improving the quality of human resources. However, accessibility to education for underprivileged children still faces various barriers, both economic, social, and geographical. This community service activity aims to provide an alternative solution to increase educational accessibility through learning assistance programs, the provision of supporting facilities, and the empowerment of parents to support their children's education. The method used is a participatory approach, where the community is actively involved in the planning, implementation, and evaluation of the activity. The results of the activity indicate an increase in children's learning motivation, the availability of simple learning resources, and increased parental awareness of the importance of education. This program is expected to become a sustainable model for increasing access to education for underprivileged children.

Abstract

Abstract

Maternity health is a crucial aspect of health development because it directly impacts the well-being of mothers and their babies. Lack of maternal knowledge and skills regarding health care during pregnancy, childbirth, the postpartum period, and newborn care remains a contributing factor to maternity and neonatal complications. This Community Service activity aims to improve mothers' knowledge, attitudes, and skills in maintaining maternity health as an effort to improve the well-being of mothers and babies. The activity's implementation methods included health education, interactive discussions, demonstrations and practical practices of maternal and infant care, and evaluation through pre- and post-tests. The activity targeted pregnant women, postpartum women, and mothers with infants. The results showed an increase in maternal knowledge regarding pregnancy health, safe delivery, postpartum care, and newborn care. Furthermore, there was an increase in positive attitudes, maternal preparedness for childbirth, and infant care skills. Maternity health education has proven effective as a promotive and preventive measure in improving the well-being of mothers and babies, and is expected to contribute to reducing the risk of complications and improving the quality of life of both mothers and babies.

Abstract

Adequate nutrition during pregnancy is a crucial factor in supporting maternal health and fetal growth and development. Insufficient protein intake, both animal and plant-based, can increase the risk of anemia, chronic energy deficiency (CED), low birth weight, and other pregnancy complications. However, many pregnant women still do not understand the importance of consuming a balanced and diverse protein diet. This Community Service activity aims to increase the knowledge and awareness of pregnant women regarding the importance of consuming animal and plant-based protein as an effort to improve nutritional status during pregnancy. Implementation methods included nutrition counseling, interactive discussions, food selection simulations, and evaluation through pre- and post-tests. The results of the activity showed a significant increase in pregnant women's knowledge about protein sources, the benefits of protein for pregnancy, and recommended protein consumption patterns. This activity is expected to encourage changes in pregnant women's eating behavior towards a balanced nutritional diet.

Abstract

Background: Children undergoing treatment at health facilities often experience anxiety due to unfamiliar surroundings, medical procedures, and separation from their parents. Unresolved anxiety can have a negative impact on children's psychological well-being and hinder the treatment process. The therapeutic approach of nurses is one non-pharmacological intervention that can help reduce children's anxiety levels through empathetic communication, a friendly attitude, and providing a sense of security. Objective: This study aims to determine the effect of nurses' therapeutic approach on the anxiety levels of preschool children. Method: This study used a quantitative design with a pre-experimental one-group pretest–posttest approach. The study sample consisted of 30 children undergoing preventive treatment in the pediatric ward of Hospital X, selected using purposive sampling. The children's anxiety levels were measured using a child anxiety observation instrument before and after the nurses' therapeutic approach was administered. Data analysis was performed using a Paired T-test with a significance level of α = 0.05. Results: The results showed a significant decrease in children's anxiety levels after receiving therapeutic care, with a p-value < 0.05. Conclusion: The therapeutic approach of nurses has a significant effect on reducing children's anxiety levels. This approach needs to be applied consistently in childcare to support children's comfort and psychological well-being during treatment.

Abstract

Children's adherence to dental hygiene is a crucial factor in preventing dental and oral diseases, particularly caries, which is common among school-aged children. This low adherence is often caused by a lack of understanding and motivation regarding the importance of maintaining good dental hygiene. The storytelling method is believed to be an effective educational strategy because it aligns with the developmental characteristics of children who enjoy stories and imagination. This study aimed to determine the effect of the storytelling method on children's adherence to dental hygiene. The study used a quasi-experimental design with a pre-test and post-test control group design. The sample consisted of 40 children aged 6–8 years, divided into two groups: an experimental group educated using the storytelling method, and a control group educated using the conventional lecture method. Data were collected through a toothbrushing adherence questionnaire covering brushing frequency, time, and technique. The analysis showed a significant increase in children's adherence scores in the experimental group after treatment (p = 0.001), while the increase was not significant in the control group (p = 0.213). An independent t-test showed a significant difference between the two groups after the intervention (p = 0.004). In conclusion, the storytelling method has a significant impact on increasing children's adherence to dental hygiene. This approach can be implemented by teachers, healthcare workers, and parents as a fun and effective educational method to foster clean and healthy living habits from an early age.
