Abstract

Abstract: The purpose of this research at finding out empirical evidence concerning whether clustering technique and vocabulary mastery are effective or not for the student to write recount text. The research methodology used is an experiment. The sampling technique uses random sampling at Private Vocational High Schools in East Jakarta. Data collection is obtained by testing their vocabulary mastery and writing skills. Data analysis to test hypothesis is two ways ANOVA. The research results conclude 1) There is a significant effect of the clustering technique on students’ writing skills with the value (Sig) being 0.000 < 0.05 and F0 = 36.740. 2) A significant effect of vocabulary mastery on students’ writing skills with the value (Sig) is 0.000 < 0.05 and F0 = 72.161. 3) There is a significant interactive effect of clustering technique and vocabulary mastery on students’ writing skills. With the value (sig) is 0.018 < 0.05 and F0 = 5.921. Then all of H0 is rejected, and H1 is accepted. So, there is the effect of clustering technique and vocabulary mastery on students’ writing skills in recount text.Keywords: Clustering Technique, Vocabulary Mastery, Writing Skill, Recount Text

Abstract

This research aims to determine the effects of grammar mastery and reading habits on students’ writing skills in recount text at State Junior High School in Tangerang Regency. The population is students from state junior high schools. The 60 samples were gained through a cluster. The data was analyzed by using the multiple regression method. The results are: 1) There are any significant effects of grammar mastery and reading habits jointly towards students’ writing skills in recount text. It is proved by Sig.= 0.000 < 0.05 and Fobserved = 20.653; 2) There is a significant effect of grammar mastery towards students’ writing skills in recount text. It is proved by Sig.= 0.001 < 0.05 and tobserved = 3.435; 3) There is a significant effect of reading habit on students’ writing skills in recount text. It is proved by Sig.= 0.000 < 0.05 and tobserved = 4.639.

Abstract

This research aims at showing the connection between the characters’ reality and fantasy on identity crisis in Alice through the Looking-Glass novel by Lewis Carroll. Thus, the conducted research was analyzed using qualitative method with the approach of psychoanalytical literary criticism: Psychoanalysis by Freud as well as the theory of Psychosocial Development by Erikson to seek the identity crisis of the character Alice. As the conclusion of the research; 1) Alice’s ‘ego’ cannot manage her ‘id’ which is difficult to be gratified in reality that triggers Alice overreact her defense mechanisms; 2) Alice’s fantasy works as a defense mechanism which is caused by her unfulfilled wishes in reality; 3) It is revealed that Alice experiences identity crisis at the phase of autonomy versus doubt and shame as well as initiative versus guilt which influences her behaviors, resulting Childhood Onset schizophrenic (COS) personality disorder.Keywords: identity crisis; psychoanalysis; interpretation of dreams; personality disorder; schizophrenia

Abstract

The purpose of this research is to evaluate the compatibility of listening and speaking materials in the textbook “English in Mind” starter level based on the 2013 curriculum that is used in the Indonesian Junior High School for grade VII. This research is designed as a desciptive-evaluative content analysis. The data were collecting by analyzing the content of the textbook particulary listening and speaking parts, consisting of 15 (fifteen) unit including Welcome Unit with 6 sections in each unit. Analysis of the textbook was undertaken on listening and speaking skills, core and basic competencies of the 2013 Curriculum criteria. 1). The result shows that the “English in mind” covers 75% of the criteria of the curriculum listening skill material compatible with the core and basic competence of the 2013 curriculum. The rest 25% of the book content has no compatibility and similarity elements of core and basic competence of the 2013 curriculum. Meanwhile, the textbook “English in Mind”  has fulfilled  100% of the core  and basic competence of the 2013 curriculum for speaking skill material. Key Words: Listening skill, speaking skill, core competencies, basic competencies, The 2013 Curriculum.

Abstract

The purpose of this research was to find, to describe and to interpret The Use of Derivational and Inflectional Affixes in Students’ Recount Text, written by students of Senior High School in Bogor. The research was conducted at Senior High School 1 Dramaga and Senior High School 1 Ciampea. The population in this research was the students of grade XI at those two schools. Meanwhile, the member of the population consists of 640 students. Thus, the sample of the research was 10 % of the population from which 64 students were taken. The collection of the data was taken from the students’ recount text composition. This research used qualitative method. The research findings were 1) the common errors produced by using Derivational Affixes in students’ recount text. The total error was 5 which the highest frequency of error happens in the failure to put the right word in the text. It is the error of misformation which consists of 0 error or 0 %, in the second place is the failure to omission which consists of 1 error or 20 %. Followed by the failure to misordering which consists of 0 error or 0 %. The last failure is placed to addition which consists of 4 errors or 80 %. 2) Furthermore, the analysis of grammatical error of using Inflectional Affixes in writing recount text, the writer found the total error is 235. The highest frequency of error in Inflectional Affixes happens in misformation which consists of 222 errors or 94.4 %. In the second place is error in omission which consists of 8 errors or 3.4 %. Followed by the failure placed to misordering which consists of 1 error or 0.43 %, and the last place is the failure to addition which consists of 4 errors or 1.7 %.

Abstract

The research study is aimed to knowing the effects of reading habit and vocabulary mastery towards students’ writing skill in analytical exposition text. The survey method was employed in this study. The population of the research was 658 students divide into 3 schools in East of Jakarta and 60 students were chosen as sample based on probability sampling methods particularly simple random sampling. The instruments used in collecting the data are reading habit questionnaire, vocabulary test, and analytical exposition text test. The result of this research shows that there are any significant effects of reading habit and vocabulary mastery towards students’ writing skill in analytical exposition text at private senior high school in East of Jakarta. It is proved by the value of sig 0.000 < 0.05 and the value of Fo = 196.017.

Abstract

This research is a kind of survey and aims to find out the effects simple past tense and adverb mastery towards students’ writing skill in recount text. The observed population of this research is students from Private Vocational High School in Bogor Regency. The 60 sample was gained through random sampling. This research has 3 variables which are divided into 2 independent variables (simple past tense and adverb mastery) and 1 dependent variable (students’ writing skill in recount text). The collection of the data is done by test score for independent and dependent variables. The gained data was then analyzed by using multiple regressions method. Previously, the prerequisite test before examining the regression test must be accomplished. The results of this research are: 1) There are any significant effects of simple past tense and adverb mastery jointly towards students’ writing skill in recount text at Private Vocational High School in Bogor Regency. It is proved by Sig.= 0.000 < 0.05 and Fobserved = 23.380; 2) There is a significant effect of simple past tense mastery towards students’ writing skill in recount text at Private Vocational High School in Bogor Regency. It is proved by Sig.= 0.019 < 0.05 and tobserved = 2.416; 3) There is a significant effect of adverb mastery towards students’ writing skill in recount text at Private Vocational High School in Bogor Regency. It is proved by Sig.= 0.001 < 0.05 and tobserved = 3.407.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze and find out Moral Values and Cultural Dimensions in English Textbook for tenth-grade senior high school published by The Ministry of Education, Culture, Research and Technology, The Republic of Indonesia. The present study is qualitative research using content analysis. The researchers adopt the Concept of Pancasila Learner Profile and the theory of cultural dimensions proposed by Moran. The research findings show that there are 273 total moral values. The highest percentage is Critical Thinking(39%), followed by Independence (21%), Creative Thinking (18%), Cooperation (19%), Global Diversity (2%), and the lowest percentage is Religiosity (1%). There are  245 total cultural dimensions. The highest percentage is Cultural Perspectives (37%), followed by Cultural Persons (23%), Cultural Communities (15%), Cultural Products (14%), and the lowest percentage is Cultural Practices (11%). The study found that all moral values and cultural dimensions represented in the English Textbook of Independent Curriculum using various ways of the teaching-learning process but in an unbalanced proportion”.Key Words: Moral Value; Cultural Dimension; English Language Teaching; Content Analysis;Critical Pedagogy.

Abstract

This research explores the use of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) in teaching English as a Foreign Language (EFL) at Yadika Junior High Schools in Bekasi. It aims to identify the ICT tools used by teachers and students, assess the benefits of ICT integration, and examine the challenges encountered. Using a qualitative methodology, content analysis, and a thematic approach based on Miles and Huberman's model, the study analyzes data from Yadika 8 Jatimulya, Yadika 11 Jatirangga, and Yadika 13 Tambun. Findings show extensive use of ICT tools like laptops, projectors, smartphones, Google Classroom, and YouTube. ICT boosts student engagement, supports language skill development, and introduces innovative teaching methods. However, challenges include limited technology access, insufficient teacher digital competence, and time constraints for preparing ICT-based materials. The study concludes that successful ICT integration requires ongoing teacher development, better infrastructure, and strategic curriculum design to enhance EFL education.Keywords: ICT, EFL, ICT tools, student engagement, ICT integration challenges
