Abstract

Capacity building that supports the career of aviation inspectors, one of which is by writing papers. The need for partners, namely the Directorate of Aviation Navigation, will increase the competence of navigation inspectors to write papers, so scientific writing training is held. This activity is carried out for 5 days with lecture and practice methods. there are 5 main materials that are the subject of discussion and 9 sub-topics and added with practice. Of the 25 participants, 95% stated that it was useful and 100% succeeded in making the manuscript and submitting the article. Further assistance is needed so that participants can conduct research or studies and publish written works in reputable journals

Abstract

This study discusses the class setting for online recurrent human factor training for AMEL holders. The online class setting for recurrent human factor training was developed to meet the needs for implementing training without requiring AMEL holders to return to class, while still meeting the training objectives. The study explores specific examples of learning methods, including a mix of lectures, discussions, and group work. It also considers the use of blended learning classes, particularly in the flipped classroom format, and the option of including a problem-based learning approach. Further research is needed to develop a recurrent human factors training class setting and examine its effectiveness.

Abstract

Understanding gas turbine engines as aircraft propulsion engines is essential in aircraft maintenance. It was found that the learning outcomes for basic turbine motor courses (gas turbine engine fundamentals) were not optimal. This research aims to learn and teach basic motorbike courses that focus on finding out learning activities based on the general features of good teaching Gall et al. (2007) in the basic course on turbine motors at the TPU D.IV Study Program. This research was conducted in June-July 2022 and used qualitative methods with semi-structured interviews, observations, and theoretical studies to collect qualitative data. Six findings, namely lack of student involvement; activity plans inside and outside lectures are inadequate; need to maintain and plan better practical activities; no program for implementing understanding in the classroom; and emphasis on activities in pairs or groups. The limitation of this research is that it only examines teaching and learning activities. There may be other parameters that can influence academic achievements such as student characteristics, availability of learning materials, facilities, etc., or developing learning with a structured active learning approach to maintain student involvement and understanding of the content that needs to be carried out in further research.

Abstract

Piston-prop aircraft are typically used in general aviation and consist of an internal combustion engine paired with a propeller. The combustion chamber in the cylinder must remain leak-proof during the compression and power strokes to maximize power output. Leakage in the combustion chamber is one of the factors that cause failure to reach peak pressure during the compression stroke. This study focuses on low compression in the cylinder of the aircraft piston engine due to gas leakage, failing to reach peak pressure. Three experienced aircraft maintenance engineer license holders were involved in the interview for this study. Most frequently occur in valves, particularly in exhaust valves due to carbon deposits accumulating around the valve face. Second, piston leaks are indicated by too large side clearance of compression piston rings or in-line compression piston ring gaps, and finally, although leaks are rarely found in the spark plug area, it is still recommended to check this area when performing a compression check. Further research can be conducted using quantitative research to determine the frequency of occurrence. It can also be done with intensive research involving laboratories to find out the cause.
