Abstract

Diabetes mellitus is a set of symptoms that arise in a person characterized by blood glucose levels exceeding normal (hyperglycemia) due to a lack of insulin in the body. One of the medicinal plants that can be used is avocado flesh. This study aims to determine the antidiabetic activity of avocado pulp extract (Persea americana Mill) against male white rats. This study used 25 male white rats divided into 5 groups, namely the negative control group CMC-Na 1%, the positive control group glibenclamide 0.45 mg/kg BW, the EEBA test group at doses of 50, 100, 200 mg/kg BW. The results of the one-way ANOVA analysis of the Tukey HSD test showed that the administration of EEBA at a dose of 100 mg/kg BW and EEBA at a dose of 200 mg/kg BW had a significant difference with a significance value of 0.024 and 0.026 and EEBA at a dose of 50 mg/kg BW had no significant difference with the significance 0.275. Based on the results of the study, it can be concluded that EEBA doses of 50, 100, 200 mg/kg BW have antidiabetic activity.

Abstract

Condensed milk or more commonly sweetened condensed milk is cow's milk in which the water is removed and sugar is added, resulting in milk that is very sweet in taste and can last for up to a year if not opened. In general, the term sweetened condensed milk means sweetened milk, namely milk in the form of a thick liquid, yellowish-white or other colors depending on the aroma added, with a distinctive smell and taste. This research was conducted to determine the presence or absence of metallic Sn (tin) in canned sweetened condensed milk in whole and dented cans. The samples examined were whole and dented canned sweetened condensed milk sold around Jalan Kapten Muslim Medan, the samples were taken randomly from three different brands. This study used a qualitative test method, the sample was ashed first using 0.1N HCl solvent, this research was carried out using 0.1N sodium hydroxide reagent there was no white or negative precipitate, using 0.1N sodium carbonate reagent there was no white precipitate or negative. Sweetened condensed milk sold around Jalan Kapten Muslim Medan does not contain Sn (tin) in the qualitative test, this shows that the sweetened condensed milk is safe for consumption.

Abstract

Antioxidants are chemical compounds that can donate one or more electrons (electron donors) to free radicals to inhibit oxidative reactions. One example that has the potential as an antioxidant is yogurt. Yogurt is a food that contains a number of live bacteria that have a beneficial effect on health because it has antioxidant, antimicrobial, antidiarrheal activity and can boost the immune system. There are several factors that can affect the antioxidant activity of yogurt including temperature, storage conditions, and additional ingredients used such as adding fruit flavors. The purpose of this study was to determine the antioxidant activity of probiotics from yogurt drinks with various brands. Samples were taken from supermarkets in Medan City with 3 different brands coded A, B, and C. The antioxidant activity was determined by the DPPH (1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl) method using a visible spectrophotometer measured at wavelengths. 516 nm. The results showed that there were two samples of yogurt drink coded A and B which were included in the strong category and code C samples were included in the weak category. Yogurt drink with brand code A has the strongest antioxidant activity compared to other brand yogurt drinks (B and C) with IC50 values from samples code A (80.52 ml), B (90.14 ml), and C (194, 81 ml).

Abstract

Rimbang fruit (Solanum torvum) has properties as a skin antiseptic. Rimbang fruit extract (Solanum torvum) which has been isolated has antibacterial activity against Staphylococcus aureus bacteria. This is because the Rimbang fruit extract (Solanum torvum) contains compounds such as solasonins, glucosides, saponins, and sterolins. Formulation and testing of antibacterial activity of hand sanitizer gel preparations of Rimbang fruit extract and evaluation of the physical quality of hand sanitizer preparations. Rimbang fruit extract was made by the maceration method using 70% ethanol. Then it was evaporated using a rotary evaporator and the remaining solvent was evaporated until a thick extract was formed. Testing of antibacterial activity by agar diffusion method using disc paper against Staphylococcus aureus by measuring the diameter of the zone of inhibition of bacterial growth. The concentration of Rimbang fruit extract and hand sanitizer gel formula used (F1) 0.5% and (F2) 1%; Evaluation of the physical quality of the hand sanitizer preparation includes organoleptic test, homogeneity test, and pH test. The results of the antibacterial activity test of Rimbang fruit extract against Staphylococcus aureus at a concentration of 0.5% with an inhibitory diameter of 5.2 mm. Meanwhile, the results of the gel hand sanitizer activity test of Rimbang fruit extract obtained the inhibition of Staphylococcus aureus bacteria at a concentration of 1% with a diameter of 9.0 mm.

Abstract

Canned fish is a food that is synonymous with preservatives and food coloring. In the manufacturing process, manufacturers often use natural preservatives to lower production costs. This research is descriptive research. The research location is at PT. Mutifa. Aims to determine how much nitrate levels in branded canned sardines are sold at supermarkets in the city of Stabat whether they meet the requirements of SNI or not. From the results of the study, the levels of nitrate with Brand A were 0.00694% and sardines with Brand B were 0.0453% with a maximum wavelength of 435 nm. According to regulations set by the government according to SNI Number 01-35481994 nitrate levels should not be more than 0.2%. From all samples of canned sardines studied, it was found that nitrate levels were low and did not exceed SNI requirements.

Abstract

Buah semangka merupakan salah satu jenis buah yang disukai oleh kebanyakan orang, Tanaman semangka (Citrullus lanatus) adalah tanaman yang berasal dari Afrika. Lapisan pada kulit semangka mengandung zat bermanfaat bagi kesehatan diantaranya antioksidan, kemampuannya untuk mengendalikan radikal bebas 100 kali lebih efesien dari pada vitamin E. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui formulasi sediaan sabun mandi padat dengan menggunakan putih kulit semangka (Citrullus lanatus) sebagai pelembab kulit. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode penelitian ekperimental laboratorium. Sabun yang dibuat dengan penambahan ekstrak putih kulit semangka bervariasi mulai 0%, 3%, 5%, 7%. Putih kulit semangka yang di ekstraksi dengan cara remaserasi menggunakan bahan penyari etanol 96%. Parameter yang di amati di anataranya adalah uji organoleptis, uji pH, uji iritasi, uji stabilitas Busa, uji kesukaan, uji kelembaban kadar air (Mouisture). Berdasarkan Penelitian yang dilakukan hasil uji organoleptis diketahui semakin banyak penambahan ekstrak semakin pekat warna yang dihasilkan dari warna putih hingga coklat tua, dan bau sabun aroma cepat hilang, tekstur sabun yang dihasilkan semakin lama penyimpanan sabun semakin keras. Hasil uji pH sabun 9,4- 10,2 memenuhi syarat pH sabun yaitu 8-11, uji iritasi sabun tidak menunjukkan iritasi pada kulit, uji Stabilitas busa sebesar (66,29%), dan hasil uji kadar air kelembaban (Mouisture) pada konsentrasi 7% sebesar 36,6 yang sangat disukai oleh panelis dan menghasilkan kelembaban yang baik di antara konsentrasi sabun Lainnya. Kesimpulan dari penelitian ekstrak putih kulit buah semangka (Citrullus lanatus) dapat diformulasikan dalam bentuk sediaan sabun mandi padat dan melembabkan kulit.

Abstract

Skin is the outermost organ that functions to protect muscles, ligaments and internal organs that can cause premature aging. Aging can be characterized by dry, thin, inelastic skin, wrinkles, death of skin cells, uneven skin tone, hyperpigmentation and hypopigmentation. Thus we need a protection such as anti-aging cosmetics. Antioxidants are often added because they can reduce oxidative damage caused by increased Reactive Oxygen Species (ROS) due to ultraviolet light exposure. The research method used experimental laboratory. This sudy aims to determine ethanol extract of red spinach leaves that can be formulated in gel form as well as whether it can provide anti-aging effects on the skin. Organoleptic, homogeneity, viscosity, pH, and dispersion tests are all used to evaluate the form. Using a skin analyzer, the gel dosage form's efficacy is tested for irritation and anti-aging properties. The findings demonstrated that there were no coarse grains and that the ethanol extract of red spinach leaves at concentrations of 1%, 3%, and 5% did not alter color, odor, or shape. The form has a pH between 4.5 and 6.5, a viscosity between 2000 and 4000 mpa, and it did not irritate the skin. Water content and wrinkles showed a significant difference (p<.05) in the one-way ANOVA test findings, however pores, smoothness, and stains showed no significant difference p>.05. Formula that provides potential results for anti aging activity is a gel with an extract content of 5%.
