Abstract

Soreang Settlement is located on the waterfront of Parepare City in South Sulawesi, Indonesia. Initially, it was inhabited by the Soreang kingdom community and then developed due to by local culture. This research was to explain the influence of local culture on the spatial configuration of the Soreang settlement. The research method used is a synchronic reading analysis technique, which is supported by ArcGIS and the space syntax methods. The results of the research are: the first, the spatial configuration of Soreang settlements is influenced by three local cultures, namely sipakatau cultural meaning is sense mutual respect, sipakalebbi cultural meaning is sense of equity and simasemaseang cultural meaning is sense of family. The second, the simasemaseang culture, infact to a clustered settlement pattern formed. Sipakalebbi culture infact to settles into a linear and spreading pattern formed, whereas Sipakatau culture infact to a settles into an elongated and centered pattern formed. Third, Simasemaseang culture forms the most integrated spatial configuration. This research might well be utilized to generate a design for waterfront settlement based on local wisdom.

Abstract

The development of housing and settlements plays a crucial role in creating a safe, livable, and sustainable environment. In Sidenreng Rappang Regency, increasing housing demand has driven development across various locations without always adhering to spatial planning regulations. This study aims to formulate technical guidelines for determining the negative list—areas restricted from development—and to identify safe land for housing and settlement expansion. The research employed spatial data analysis using overlay techniques and a descriptive approach, with a case study conducted in Maritengngae District. Data were collected through GPS surveys, visual documentation, and thematic map processing using ArcGIS 10.3 software. The findings produced a map of negative list zones and the distribution of existing housing, much of which does not align with the regional spatial plan (RTRW). Furthermore, a map identifying safe land—free from protected zones, sustainable agricultural land (LP2B), railway buffers, and disaster-prone areas—was successfully developed. This research makes a significant contribution as a planning reference for appropriate housing development and supports sustainable spatial planning policies.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the urban environmental conditions in Maritengngae District, Sidenreng Rappang Regency, focusing on land use, green open spaces, air quality, waste management, and supporting infrastructure. This research uses a qualitative approach with data collection techniques through in-depth interviews, field observations, and documentation. The results show that land use in Maritengngae District has undergone significant conversion, with a reduction in green open spaces due to the transformation of land into residential and commercial areas. This has led to a decline in environmental quality, including air quality, which is indicated to have deteriorated due to the increased number of motor vehicles and industrial activities. Additionally, waste management in the area faces challenges, with low community awareness in waste sorting and limited facilities for waste management based on the 3R (reduce, reuse, recycle) principle. However, there are positive efforts from the local government, such as the development of city parks and eco-friendly drainage systems, which are expected to improve environmental quality. This study suggests that government policies should be more integrated with community participation and adequate funding to create a sustainable urban environment in Maritengngae District.

Abstract

Pangkajene Central Market is one of the largest traditional markets in Sidenreng Rappang Regency, South Sulawesi, and plays a vital role in driving the local community’s economy. However, the market continues to face various challenges related to service quality and the adequacy of its physical infrastructure. Traditional markets are often associated with poor environmental conditions, suboptimal services, and a lack of supporting facilities. Issues such as disorganized spatial layout, limited parking accessibility, inefficient vendor zoning, and inadequate loading and unloading areas highlight the urgent need for market restructuring. While the Sidenreng Rappang Regency Government has shown commitment to improving public infrastructure, including traditional markets, a comprehensive plan for the revitalization of Pangkajene Central Market is still lacking. This study employs an analytical approach based on the variables outlined in the Indonesian National Standard (SNI) for traditional markets to identify current problems and provide an initial overview of the potential and needs for physical restructuring. The results of this research are expected to serve as a preliminary reference for planning a more decent, well-organized traditional market that effectively supports economic activities and user comfort.

Abstract

Public spaces such as city parks play an important role in supporting social activities and community interactions. Taman Kota Enrekang is one of the green open spaces that is frequently used by various groups for recreational, educational, and community activities. This study aims to examine the usage patterns of interactive spaces in Taman Kota Enrekang through a biophilic design approach, which integrates natural elements to enhance the comfort and well-being of users. The research method used is descriptive qualitative with data collection techniques including field observations, interviews, and documentation. The results show that specific zones in the park, such as open seating areas, community stages, and nature literacy spaces, are more frequently used for gathering, discussions, and arts and educational activities. Biophilic elements such as lush vegetation, natural lighting, and water features contribute to user comfort and increase the duration and intensity of social interactions. These findings can serve as a basis for designing and developing public spaces that are responsive to the social and ecological needs of the community.
