Abstract

The implications of this debate are significant for individuals in planning career paths, educational institutions in designing curricula, and employers in their talent management strategies. While academic degrees are still often seen as a foundation of knowledge and evidence of learning ability and commitment, employers are increasingly prioritizing candidates who can demonstrate applied competencies relevant to immediate operational needs. This research investigates the comparative relevance between practical skills and academic degrees in the contemporary Indonesian job market, using Human Capital Theory as a foundation. Through a mixed-methods comparative design (surveys, interviews, content analysis) of employers, job seekers and employees, the study found significant preference shifts. Results show employers consistently prioritize practical relevant skills in recruitment and compensation determination, although a degree is still considered important as an initial foundation. Skills proved to be a stronger predictor of recruitment success.

Abstract

The internationalization of Islamic Higher Education Institutions (IHEIs) remains understudied despite its growing significance in global higher education. While mainstream institutions have been extensively researched, IHEIs face unique challenges due to their religious identity, mission, and distinct stakeholder expectations. This study addresses this gap by analyzing IHEIs' internationalization efforts through Resource Dependence Theory (RDT), which posits that organizations strategize to secure critical external resources. This research uses a qualitative multiple-case study design to examine four diverse IHEIs through semi-structured interviews and document analysis. The findings reveal that IHEIs pursue internationalization to access funding, students, faculty expertise, and legitimacy while balancing Islamic identity-specific dependencies. Key strategies include diversification of partnerships, negotiation with accreditors, and adaptation to global standards. Challenges include financial constraints, geopolitical instability, and tensions between Islamic values and secular academic norms. Conversely, opportunities arise from niche student markets, Islamic funding networks, and global collaborations. The study concludes that IHEIs proactively manage dependencies to enhance autonomy and sustainability. By applying RDT, this research provides new insights into how IHEIs navigate global higher education dynamics while preserving their religious mission, offering valuable implications for policymakers and institutional leaders.

Abstract

Islamic education institutions face the dual challenge of maintaining high academic standards while nurturing moral character in alignment with Islamic principles. This study aims to identify effective management strategies that enhance both learning quality and student character development. A mixed-methods design was employed, integrating qualitative case studies and quantitative surveys from selected Islamic educational institutions. The study is guided by Transformational Leadership Theory and Social Cognitive Theory (Bandura, 2024). Transformational leadership practices positively influenced school climate, teacher motivation, and students’ academic and moral self-efficacy. Effective management fostered collaboration and modeled ethical behavior, contributing to holistic student development. Strategic educational management grounded in leadership and cognitive-social theories is essential for achieving academic excellence and character formation in Islamic schools.
