Abstract

Nyalawean is a tradition carried out by the people of the southern coast of Java, especially in Sukabumi and Banten Regencies. In practice, nyalawean is an activity in coastal communities that involves catching young fish around the coast and river estuaries in groups. This fishing activity often attracts local and foreign tourists enjoying the beautiful beaches. This research was conducted as a preliminary study that formulates the potential of the nyalawean tradition as a form of cultural tourism around the southern coastal waters of Java, Sukabumi and Banten Regencies. Literature studies and direct interview surveys were finished in April-August 2023. We found that young fish caught in the nyalawean procession were generally in the larval and juvenile stages. The results of direct interviews with 887 tourists showed 94.8% of tourists' enthusiasm for the nyalawean tradition. Most tourists consider nyalawean to be an exciting form of tradition to watch. Some even desired to catch and enjoy the processed fish larvae and juveniles they obtained. These findings show the high potential for the nyalawean tradition to be developed as a form of marine tourism on the southern coast of Java, Sukabumi and Banten Regencies

Abstract

Selectivity is a standard of the level of friendliness of a fishing gear that is reviewed based on the diversity of catches obtained. Nowadays, fishing gear construction and techniques are developed to obtain selective fishing methods. This study compared the selectivity of traps and push nets in glass eel fishing in the Cikaso River, Indonesia. The study was conducted from December 2020 to April 2021. The catch diversity index and relative abundance were used to analyze the selectivity of catch diversity in both fishing gears. Comparative analysis shows that push nets have slightly better selectivity than traps. However, the study's overall results showed a fairly good selectivity of both fishing gears in catching glass eels (Anguilla spp.) as their main catch target.

Abstract

Kata Kunci: Wisata Bahari, Smiling Coral Indonesia, E-Magazine, Promosi Digital, Konservasi LautABSTRACTThis study focuses on the design of an interactive E-Magazine as a digital promotional medium for Smiling Coral Indonesia (SCI), a conservation group based on Pramuka Island, Kepulauan Seribu. SCI has relied on social media and digital brochures; however, the content presented remains general, limited, and has not fully represented its identity or conservation values. Therefore, this research employs the Research and Development (RD) method with the ADDIE development model, limited to the needs analysis and design stages. Data were collected through observation, interviews with SCI managers, and visual documentation of activities. The needs analysis was reviewed using the STP (Segmentation, Targeting, Positioning) concept, which indicated that SCI’s primary target is individual tourists interested in educational and conservation tourism, while the secondary target includes companies and educational institutions. Based on the analysis, SCIMagz was designed as an interactive E-Magazine presenting SCI’s profile, conservation programs, educational tourism, as well as testimonials and achievements. The design was developed using Canva Pro and displayed interactively through digital platforms, highlighting marine and sustainability themes. The design results demonstrate that SCIMagz can serve as a more engaging, informative, and integrated promotional medium compared to previous strategies. This research provides a foundation for further development through feasibility testing and real implementation to ensure that SCIMagz functions optimally as a promotional medium for conservation-based marine tourism. Keywords: Marine Tourism, Smiling Coral Indonesia, Interactive E-Magazine, Digital Promotion, Marine Conservation

Abstract

Indonesia is known as a country with the second-longest coastline in the world. This geological condition offers promising potential for coastal tourism. However, the potential of coastal tourism is not without its management challenges. This study was conducted to analyze the tourism suitability index and ecological carrying capacity of coastal tourism at Citepus, Karang Hawu, and Cikaso Beaches. The assessment was conducted for three tourism categories: beach recreation, swimming, and camping. The tourism suitability index was assessed based on 12 physical beach criteria, including beach type and width, substrate type, depth, water transparency, current velocity, wave height, beach slope, vegetation, the presence of dangerous biota, freshwater availability, and scenery diversity. The ecological carrying capacity of the tourism area was calculated based on the coastal area and the optimal ecotourism area criteria for each type of recreation. The study was conducted from April to June 2025. The results of the tourism suitability index assessment showed that Citepus and Cikaso Beaches were categorized as very suitable for all three tourism activities. In contrast, Karang Hawu Beach was categorized as very suitable for beach recreation, moderately suitable for swimming, and conditionally suitable for camping. The coastal ecological carrying capacity assessment varied by beach size. Citepus Beach can accommodate 503 tourists for beach recreation, 378 for swimming, and 1,558 for camping. Karang Hawu Beach can accommodate 403 tourists for recreation, 302 for swimming, and 1,171 for camping. Cikaso Beach can accommodate 269 tourists for beach recreation, 201 for swimming, and 957 for camping.
