Abstract

Advertisement as the tool for communicating and promoting a specific product to the customer brings a new phenomenon on the use of language. Every utterance has the function, from a very simple point of view advertisement is objected to making customer buying their product. Illocutionary act as an action via utterance are able to project the main objective of the advertisement, wheatear this advertisement expressing feeling, representing facts, declaring the point of view, promoting question, and promising goal. This research objects to revile the speech act used in Indonesian shampoo advertisement using qualitative study. This use 84 utterances from 5 brand of shampoo. Those 84 utterances were taken from video ads of 5 shampoo product in Indonesia. As the result, Shampoo ads in Indonesia has  % of declarative Speech act, % Commission Speech act, % Representative Speech act, % Expressive Speech act, % Directive Speech act. This result shows that Shampoo product in Indonesia intends to promote their product by declaring their ability in giving the best result for the customer whether it gives a shiner hair, softer hair, stronger hair or others.

Abstract

The the purposes of this resaearch was to find out students dificulty in mastering Grammar, and to find out the suitable method in improving students’ grammar mastery. The method of this research was Action Research as the application of fact finding to practical problem solving in social situation by involving the collaboration and cooperation of researcher and practitioners. The research took place at IKIP Siliwangi, focused on class A2 year 2016. Subjects of the research was 45 students of English Education Study Program. The finding and disscussion of this research was that Problem Based Learning (PBL) jo with Puzzle media could improve students’ grmammar mastery and students of English Education Study Program could

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to find out the improvement students’ motivation using ice breaker in learning English at the tenth grade of software engineering major in SMK TI Garuda Nusantara Cimahi. The data obtained from the result of observation and students learning outcomes from the test (pretest and posttest). The result showed Students who were completed value with KKM > 70 in the pre-cycle has 28.60% and in the first cycle increased to 67.80% than in the second cycle improved to 100%. The average student learning outcomes in the first cycle amounted to 66.29 and the second cycle increased to 73.09 so the average student learning outcomes from cycle I to cycle II increased by 6.8. It means there was an improvement in students’ motivation after carried out classroom actions research. Based on the fact, the researcher concluded that the ice breaker was effective to improve students’ motivation in learning English at the tenth grade of office software engineering major in SMK TI Garuda Nusantara Cimahi. It was also proved by observation students when teaching-learning in the classroom. Students feel enjoy, be active, feeling happiness, focus on material and stay in the classroom during the learning process.Keywords: Teaching Method, Motivation, Ice breaker, learning process

Abstract

This research used descriptive qualitative. The writer used tenth-grade Hotel Accomodation’s students of SMK Dwi Putra Sindangkerta as a subject research. In the process of English enrolling, the writer found out the problem on the subject in grammar, especially simple present tense. This skill is a structure that often used in daily conversation. But the students has more difficulties in enrolling simple present tense while it is very important to enroll because it can help them when they meet the foreign guest in the hotel later. We teach simple present tense easier using any method. One of them is the jigsaw method. This method often used more teacher in Indonesia because of this method easy to implement it.  Thus, the writer researches the student to teach simple present tense to implement jigsaw method in other to understand easier by them. The writer applies jigsaw in some steps; they are pre-activity, divided into groups, the group leader selection, group reviewion activity, submitted an assignment, and evaluation. Teaching simple present tense used jigsaw can make a enrolling effectively, and it is improving students motivation to enroll simple present tense. Keywords:  AKP’s Students, Simple Present Tense, Jigsaw Method

Abstract

This research aimed to analyze the speech acts of the movie script entitled Frozen, the movie that is being the most popular movie in 2013 until now. The research design in this paper is a qualitative method where the writers describe the result in a form of the words and the explanation of the result. The writers analyze all types of speech acts (representatives, commissives, directives, declarations, expressives, verdictives) by Finegan (2011) in doing this research, as the results of this research, all of the types of speech acts had their own meaning  for delivering the sentences to make such a response. The writers found 294 clauses that contain the type of speech acts, there are representatives (37), commissives (3), directives (32), expressives (10). Each type of the speech acts are delivering different meaning. The results of the research are taken from the script of the character named Anna in Frozen the movie.  Keywords:  Pragmatic, Language, Speech Act, Movie

Abstract

This research focus on adjacency pairs in “Talk Asia” Interview between President SBY with Stevens from CNN. This research had aimed to find out what types of AP and preference structure used in“Talk Asia” Interview between Indonesian President SBY with Stevens from CNN. Qualitative method was used to analyze this research. The researchers take the interview from CNN  between Indonesia president SBY with Stevens as the instrument for research. The result found that was four question-answer, two assessment-agreement/disagreement, one request-acceptance/refusal, one farewell-farewell, it means that the dominant type of AP in “Talk Asia” Interview between Indonesia President SBY with Stevens from CNN is question-answer. For preference structure there are two preferred and one dispreferred.

Abstract

This research focuses on the effect of recount text to improve vocabulary mastery through Team Game Tournament (TGT) .The methotology which is used by using action research.The subjects are the grade I students of SMA PASUNDAN 3 Cimahi.Two classes, science class and social class were taken the subject of observation. This research object is to find the effect and extent of recount genre to improve students’ ability in vocabulary mastery where the population and sample is taken from grade I students of SMA PASUNDAN 3 Cimahi.After the data been collected, the researcher finds out that the students in the grade I has improve in their vocabulary. It has been also caused by quiz through Team Game Tournamentc(TGT) practice of recount text, that recount text can be applied to improve the vocabulary mastery skill of the students.

Abstract

ABSTRAKPenggunaan teknologi dalam proses pembelajaran merupakan hal yang selalu digunakan. Di era industri 4.0 guru dituntut memiliki kemampuan yang cukup dalam mengikuti perkembangan teknologi. Pembelajaran yang berfokus kepada proses tatap muka harus sudah diintegrasi dengan blended-learning. Kondisi ini membuat Google sebagai salah satu web tool terbesar memperkenalkan Google Classroom (GC) pada tahun 2014. Adanya GC diharapkan bisa menjadi solusi untuk permasalahan seperti kurangnya jam pelajaran mata pelajaran Bahasa Inggris ditingkat SMP. Namun sayangnya masih banyak guru yang masih belum mengetahui tentang kebermanfaatan GC. Sehingga melalui pengabdian ini diharapkan dapat memberikan gambaran yang holistik terkait dengan pengunaan GC khususnya dalam pembelajaran Bahasa Inggris. Lebih jauh, pengabdian ini diharapkan dapat meningkatkan kemampuan berbahasa inggris siswa yang meliputi kemampuan menyimak (listening), berbicara (speaking), membaca (reading), dan menulis (writing). Metode pengabdian dilaksanakan ada empat tahapan yaitu: a) tahapan analisis, b) tahapan penyusunan materi , c) tahapan pelaksanaan, dan d) tahapan penyusunan laporan kegiatan. Adapun hasil dari pengabdian ini adalah semua guru peserta belum mengenal GC, sehingga guru sangat antusias dan tertarik dengan penggunaan GC. Guru mengetahui flatform yang dapat mereka gunakan dalam pembelajaran yang berintegrasi dengan blended learning. Guru dapat lebih mudah untuk mengelola tugas kelas dengan cepat dan memberikan umpan balik kepada siswa secara efektif.  Akan tetapi, fasilitas seperti ketersediaan koneksi yang baik juga harus didukung demi lancarnya penggunaan GC dalam pembelajaran.Kata kunci: Google Classroom, blended-learning, teknologi industri 4.0 ABSTRACTTechnology is always used in teaching and learning process. In industry 4.0, teachers are asked to develop skill in using technology. Learning focuses not only in the classroom but also it should be integrated with blended learning. This situation makes google as one biggest web tool to introduce google classroom (GC) in 2014, GC is expected to be solution to solve the problems such as limitation of time in learning. Unfortunately, many teachers do not know about GC. So, this community services program is expected to help teachers in using GC, especially English teachers. Besides, it is also to improve English language skills, such as listening, speaking, reading, and writing. There are four methods of community services program, they are: a) analysis step, b) material arrangement, c) implementation, d) report. The result of community services shows that all teachers as participants do not know about GC, so they are really excited in using GC. Teachers know GC and they can implement in learning and it can be integrated learning. Teachers are easier to manage the class and help teachers to assess the assignment effectively. Nevertheless, the good connection should be determined to support the implementation of using GC.Kata kunci: Google Classroom, blended-learning, Industry technology 4.0

Abstract

Secara umum, tujuan jangka panjang program pengabdian ini adalah mengembangkan suatu proses pengabdian yang  inovatif melalui penyuluhan bagi guru-guru Sekolah Dasar dalam upaya meningkatkan kesadaran tentang literasi anak sehingga dapat menunjang proses belajar peserta didik secara maksimal. Secara khusus, target khusus yang ingin dicapai sebagai berikut: (1). Meningkatkan pemahaman guru-guru tentang pentingnya kemampuan literasi anak; (2). Meningkatkan kemampuan literasi anak khusunya peserta didik usia sekolah dasar. Metode pelaksanaan dalam pencapaian tujuan tersebut sebagai berikut: (a). perizinan terhadap Dinas setempat terkait pengabdian terhadap guru-guru sekolah dasar; (b). Memberikan gambaran umum mengenai kegiatan pengabdian yang akan dilakukan; (c). Melakukan refleksi dan diskusi mengenai berbagai kegiatan pengabdian yang akan dilakukan; (d). Melakukan kolaborasi dengan ahli dalam menyusun materi yang menunjang literasi anak, (e). Pelaksanaan kegiatan penyuluhan ; (f). Evaluasi kegiatan penyuluhan, (f) Penarikan kesimpulan pelaksanaan penyuluhan, dan (g) Publikasi luaran pengabdian.

Abstract

Code-mixing is a study that learns about the understanding of mixing two codes or more languages that speakers or writers situation without changing the meaning of the sentence. The study purposes to find out code-mixing was used and to find out how many codes were used in the Interview. This research method applies descriptive qualitative. The data analysis of this research is Indonesian English code- mixing on Cinta Laura’s Graduation Interview. These data are taken from a spoken interview that was written in scripts. The result of this research data are analyzed using the linguistic form in code-mixing based on Suwito’s theory, it reveals that the linguistic forms which mostly used are: “Word” (7,32%), “Phrase” (2,75%), “Clause” (1,22%), and “Word Repetition” (0,31%). Keywords:  Code-mixing, Sociolinguistic, Linguistic Form
