Abstract

The low productivity of cucumber plants in Indonesia can be caused by several factors, one of which is fertilization. Fertilization on Inceptisol soil which has a low nitrogen content is needed to increase cucumber crop yields. The use of inorganic fertilizers is limited to avoid environmental pollution, so the use of biofertilizers can be an environmentally friendly option. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of concentration and interval application of azolla extract based biofertilizer on the total soil N, plant N content, Azotobacter population and cucumber yield. The experiment was carried out from August to November 2021 at the Ciparanje Experimental Garden, Faculty of Agriculture, Padjadjaran University. This experiment used a Completely Randomized Block Design of a combination concentrations (0, 5, 10, 15, 20 mL.L-1) and time of application (1, 2, 3 times). The results showed that the application of azolla extract based biofertilizer with different concentrations and application times had a significant effect on the azotobacter population but had no significant effect on soil nitrogen levels, plant nitrogen concentrations, and cucumber yields. The addition of 20 mL/L 2 times application of azolla-based biofertilizer increased cucumber fruit weight by 35.97% compared to control but did not cause a significant increase in yield

Abstract

The use of chemical insecticides to control Spodoptera exigua is currently the main choice for farmers. The continuous use of chemical insecticides will cause many problems including resistance, food safety and environmental damage. alternative use of organic insecticides needs to be applied for the control system of Spodoptera exigua on shallot plants. The experiment was carried out in Playangan Village, Gebang District, Cirebon Regency, in April-June 2019. The research method used a randomized block design with 3 replications, consisting of 9 treatment combinations of three cultivars: Bima, Ilokos, Sumenep, organic insecticides: neem seed extract, Bauveria bassiana, Bacillus thuringiensis. The results of the experiment showed that the combination of treatment of 3 cultivars of shallots and organic insecticides had a significant effect on the components of the intensity of the attack of Spodptera exigua pests (plants aged 43, 50 and 57 DAP). The best treatment was obtained, namely the treatment of Ilokos cultivar and neem seed extract insecticide with tuber yields of 6.60 kg / plot or equivalent to 28.57 tonnes / ha.

Abstract

Oil palm is known as a plantation crop that produces vegetable oil which is widely used in human life. Palm oil is produced from fresh fruit bunches (FFB) which originate from female flowers. Another part of the oil palm plant that has not been widely utilized is the oil palm leaves. When these leaves have been pruned, they will become abundant garden waste. Apart from that, there are empty palm oil bunches (tankos) which are classified as factory waste. Further research is needed regarding the compound content, especially the secondary metabolite content of midrib and tankos so that their utilization is optimal. The aim of this review is to determine the content of secondary metabolite compounds in oil palm plants and the potential for wider use. The method used is collecting library data, reading, analyzing and writing it down. The data and references used are scientific articles in national and international journals, textbooks, literature reviews and other sources. Based on the review, information was obtained that oil palm leaves contain several secondary metabolite compounds, especially saponins and phenols, while tankos contains phenol compounds. The amount of secondary metabolite compound content is not yet known for certain and this could be an opportunity to conduct research to determine the content of secondary metabolite compounds, especially for oil palm plants.
