Abstract

Entering higher education and starting new living can be challenging for new students. They need many information to integrate themselves to new communities and conform to new organizational culture, systems and programs. Organizational socialization is one of several socialization options which may promote the new students’ adjustment process, facilitate their learning process to survive and thrive. Despite the important role of organizational socialization, it is still under-examined in educational sector. Thus, this study analyzed educational factors enabling the new students to educationally survive and thrive. The data were collected through 22 new students’ narrative texts, freely voicing their experiences in higher education at their first semester. The data were analyzed by employing thematic, within-and-cross case analysis, underpinned by interpretivism paradigm. The study found that the new students’ educational survival and thriving needs the elaboration of organizational, social and emotional experiences into academic determination. Thus, the study challenged the dominant power of academic rigor in determining the educational thriving. Instead, the study suggested the new defined educational thriving concept by recognizing the roles of social, organizational and emotional roles, as presented in the reconstructed educational thriving triangle model.TRANSLATE with x EnglishArabicHebrewPolishBulgarianHindiPortugueseCatalanHmong DawRomanianChinese SimplifiedHungarianRussianChinese TraditionalIndonesianSlovakCzechItalianSlovenianDanishJapaneseSpanishDutchKlingonSwedishEnglishKoreanThaiEstonianLatvianTurkishFinnishLithuanianUkrainianFrenchMalayUrduGermanMalteseVietnameseGreekNorwegianWelshHaitian CreolePersian //  TRANSLATE with COPY THE URL BELOW Back EMBED THE SNIPPET BELOW IN YOUR SITE Enable collaborative features and customize widget: Bing Webmaster PortalBack//

Abstract

Abstract

The success and failure of a destination tend to rest on its’ capacity to satisfy the visitors. Listening to visitors’ appraisal and voices is vital in community-based tourism development. This study aims to explore WPP Dalegan visitors’ voices. The data are collected through Dalegan visitors’ online reviews and direct observation. The study finds that Dalegan has a high competitive advantage as family recreational destination as it is cheap, reachable, accessible, has various local-traditional-cheap food, beautiful calm beach and soft white sand as a playing and learning ground for children. Despite its’ comfortable image, some visitors voice unsatisfied services, facilities, nature-caused and human-caused threats. The study also illuminates that Dalegan destination branding is not only influenced by its’ capacity to attract visitors by its’ beautiful marine nature, but also local community characters, community education and values. The study indicates that to develop tourism destination, local potentials are not the only determinant keys. It needs to be supported by other determining factors. One of those factors is tourists’ voices on their impression, comments, satisfaction and dissatisfaction feelings. Linking potential resources of destination and tourists’ meaningful experience can be challenging as different tourists may have different perspectives, wants and satisfaction-dissatisfaction levels.

Abstract

Marine tourism is one of several economic drivers which contribute to local community livelihood and regional income. Many potential coastal areas are gradually developing and transformed by its’ local communities into local-scale tourisms which accommodate local or domestic or surrounding tourists’ recreational needs. However, to be sustainable, there are many issues need to be addressed. The study intends to explore Dalegan community perceived tourism issue in developing their WPP destination or white sand tourism. The study adopts qualitative method in gathering and analyzing the data. The data are gathered through Dalegan community dialog or interactive session during Dalegan community service program. The collected data are interpreted by implementing thematic analysis. The study reveals that there are three main issues faced by Dalegan local communities: financial, creativity and lack of legal procedures. The collaboration of financial service agents, educational institutions, (local) government bodies and local community inclusion is needed. The study demonstrates that to build Dalegan marine tourism, local/community leadership, local human quality improvement, local resources identification and local culture need to be used as the development grounds. The study also shows that the local community is still not aware of the environmental issues and diversification of recreational activities. Thus, local community still needs advocacy to understand the relationship between tourism and environment. The study also finds that local women are valuable human resource for marine tourism business. They are potential women entrepreneurs who develop small business around WPP marine tourism.

Abstract

Todays’ teachers should respond to their students’ learning need in this digital era, but frequently they do not know how to operate technology. This situation imposes teachers  to survive and grow through self-learning and learning method discovery instead of relying on formal training. This study aims to explore how teachers survive and perform their self-learning. The data are collected from an interview with a senior teacher from higher education institution and twenty-six senior high school teachers’ written responses. The data show that ICT learning requires the integration of affective, social and cognitive functioning through the process of adaptive learning from authentic environment, individual continuous and group learning. The study shows that teachers are potential adaptive learners, who learn from diverse everyday situations. They are engaging in situated learning process. ICT learning workshops are not the only platforms where they can learn ICT. On daily basis, the teachers learn from other more competent teachers, teachers learning communities and their own students

Abstract

Children nowadays are more likely than earlier generations to understand, get along with, and be comfortable with technology. Compared to children from the past, children nowadays can find basic technology like a laptop or mobile phone with less difficulty. In addition, they can see how adults use those devices. Children may develop tighter and more frequent relationships with the instruments as a result of these aspects. This research intends to investigate how two children learn to use the available technology. The study adopts a qualitative research method. The data are collected by interviewing the parents of two children. The study discovers that, from the viewpoint of their parents, youngsters are unknowingly gaining information through technology through both individual and peer playing. They begin to learn how to share, analyze independently, work together, and internalize information from their peers through this playing and learning. Children also practice trial-and-error learning, in which they try things out, fail occasionally, and then figure things out. Children also learn how to stimulate their interest and satisfy their curiosity by gaining and examining new knowledge. The study also emphasizes the important functions of a few enabling elements, such as family support, children's active participation, the social dynamics at school, and the link between the family and the school.
