Abstract

Due to human activities, both domestic and non-domestic, river pollution can occur over time. One of the rivers in Surabaya, which is located in a densely populated area, is Bokor River. Residents use Bokor River for pond activities, so the water's quality must meet these quality standards. This study aims to analyze the suitability of river water quality in Bokor River, Surabaya City, which has met its quality standards for this activity. Water quality measurement is carried out by existing testing with the standard method that is used as a reference in Indonesia. Water quality measurements were determined based on the parameters BOD, COD, DO, TSS, Phosphate (PO4 3-), Nitrate (NO3), and Ammonium (NH4). The measured DO, BOD, phosphate, and ammonia parameters did not meet these quality standards. However, DO parameters in the upstream still meet the quality standard (above 3 mg/L), while after that, they experience a decrease in quality. Meanwhile, nutrient parameters, especially ammonia, do not meet quality standards, as it is known that ammonia can provide toxic properties to fish. In addition, there is an opportunity for eutrophication of this quality. Pollutants entering the Bokor River are point sources and non-point sources, which cannot be located precisely and generally consist of many relatively small individual sources.

Abstract

Pandemi COVID-19 secara tidak langsung merubah mobilisasi masyarkat di perkotaan. Salah satu kota yang mengalami perubahan tersebut adalah Kota Surakarta. Mobilisasi kendaraan merupakan hal yang dapat dilevaluasi, salahs satu cara mengevaluasi hal tersebut adalah dengan melihat kualitas udara. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah melihat perbedaan kualitas udara sebelum dan saat pandemi COVID-19 di Kota Surakarta. Adapun metode yang digunakan adalah dengan mengalisa secara kuantitatif dengan analisa varian (ANOVA). Parameter kualitas udara yang dilihat dalam studi ini adalah Nitrogen dioksida dan Sulfur dioksida. Berdasarkan analisa data di tiga ruas jalan Nitrogen dioksida cenderung meningkat pada dua ruas jalan di Kota Surakarta. Sedangkan konsentrasi Sulfur dioksida cenderung menurun dari tahun 2019 ke tahun 2020. Analisa ANOVA memperlihatkan ada perbedaan yang signifikan (sig<0.05) konsentrasi parameter udara tahun 2019 ke tahun 2020.

Abstract

Drainage is one way of removing unwanted excess water in an area and dealing with the effects of excess water in the system. When the rainy season comes, there are almost floods or puddles on urban roads. The large population also makes the volume of drainage channels fill up quickly, while the drainage capacity tends to decrease due to rainwater (erosion) and sedimentation. Meteorological Street, Laut Dendang Village, Percut Sei Tuan sub-district, Deli Serdang Regency, is one of the villages that is frequently flooded every time it rains. On these issues, the researcher highlights the importance of evaluating the Deli Serdang Regency's drainage system along Meteorological Road to anticipate when the rainy season comes. The general exponential method can determine whether the existing drainage volume can still accommodate terrestrial run-off and domestic wastewater in the next 30 years and calculate the population growth. Based on the research results from rainfall data obtained from Meteorology Road, the rainfall intensity value for the last ten years (2010 - 2019) was 10.538 mm/day. Thus, the amount of discharge flowing in the drainage channel (Qplansning) is equal to 0.832 m3/sec, while the planned Q for the next ten years is 0.874 m3/sec, for the next 20 years is 0.953 m3/sec, and 30 years into the future. front is 1.111 m3/sec. Based on the calculation results, Qplans exceeds Qeksisting. Therefore, a new channel plan is needed.

Abstract

Most of the area in Klungkung Regency has a waste management system that needs to meet technical requirements regarding the compartment, sorting, collecting, transporting, and processing. Coverage of handling urban waste is still far from the target of 80% in 2019 (46% in 2013), and the amount of waste generation that is still recycled is still minimal (4.95 m3 in 2017). This research aims to make a master plan or strategy implemented to improve service coverage and the quality of solid waste management in the future. This research was conducted by conducting a direct survey and secondary data collection. The strategy adopted is to increase the utilization of waste infrastructure and facilities; increasing the capacity of solid waste facilities according to service targets; improving the quality of landfill management in the direction of sanitary landfills; developing regional final processing site management, and applying waste handling technology that is appropriate and environmentally friendly. The Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) contain the seriousness of improving sanitation conditions, which require increased public access to sanitation facilities in half of the population without access to sanitation. Increased population access to proper sanitation (domestic wastewater, solid waste and environmental drainage) to 100% at the level of basic needs.

Abstract

Amidst escalating global concerns regarding waste management, Kabupaten Kulon Progo in Yogyakarta presents a microcosm of the challenges and solutions inherent to Indonesia. This research primarily aims to elucidate the efficacy and impact of the waste bank centre, a pivotal initiative in the district promoting waste reduction, recycling, and proper disposal. Utilizing empirical data from the National Waste Management Information System (SIPSN) and an extensive literature review, the study offers insights into waste trends, composition, and disposal mechanisms specific to Kabupaten Kulon Progo. Further, the research underscores the waste bank center's operational efficiency, outreach, and influence within the broader waste management framework. By highlighting both the challenges and opportunities faced by the waste bank centre, this study crafts informed policy recommendations, aiming to fortify waste management efforts in Kabupaten Kulon Progo and presenting scalable lessons for other Indonesian districts.

Abstract

This paper explores Pulau Lengkang, an island near Batam City, known for its natural beauty and cultural heritage. It examines the impact of overcrowding on its aspiration to become a prominent tourism heritage destination. The main goal is to analyze the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats Pulau Lengkang faces in its development into a renowned tourist hub, with a focus on the challenges of overcrowding and the potential for sustainable tourism. The study employs a qualitative approach, relying on thorough literature review to understand the island's unique cultural and historical aspects and the implications of increasing visitor numbers on its heritage and environment. The findings reveal that while Pulau Lengkang boasts significant cultural and historical appeal, overcrowding threatens to strain its infrastructure and dilute its heritage. However, opportunities for sustainable tourism and cultural preservation present viable pathways to enhance its tourism appeal and support local community well-being. The study suggests that adopting eco-tourism and cultural engagement strategies can help safeguard Pulau Lengkang's heritage and promote sustainable development.

Abstract

This study explores the potential for managing biodegradable marine debris waste in Jakarta City through composting, aiming to reduce and treat this waste effectively. In Jakarta, river debris predominantly consists of materials that degrade easily and are biodegradable. Composting represents the most straightforward method for processing this type of organic waste. The study's objective was to evaluate the feasibility of composting organic biodegradable river debris as a waste management strategy. Data collection was conducted at Emplacement Pluit, utilizing random sampling with the four quadrants method. Out of the total river debris generated daily, which amounts to 309 m³, approximately 9.07 m³/day was found suitable for composting. The composting process resulted in a significant reduction of river debris volume by 50.15% within a 30-day detention period. This process was facilitated by mesophilic microbial activity at temperatures between 30-38°C. During the first two weeks, the composting environment remained acidic until the pH stabilized to a normal range between 6.8 and 7.49. A notable observation was the high initial water content of the river debris, recorded at 53.846%, which only reduced to 42.857% by the end of the 30-day decomposition period. Therefore, a pretreatment step is recommended to optimize the water content before composting. Despite these challenges, the compost produced met the required standards set by SNI 19-7030-2004. This study underscores the importance of managing biodegradable organic waste at its source to alleviate the burden on landfills, which are currently operating beyond their capacity.
