Abstract

Abstract

Abstract

Kata kunci:    homo complexus, masyarakat Hindu Bali, McDonaldisasi, krematorium, ritual kematian AbstractThis article is the result of qualitative research with critical paradigm. This research focused on two issues: the background of Balinese people voluntarily choosing a crematorium to do cremation or ngaben and the way of its implementation. The informants of this research were the manager of the crematorium, the actors of cremation ritual, the religious leaders, etc. The data collection techniques were interview, observation and document study. The data analysis followed the steps of conceptualization, the results of conceptualization, verification, and objectivation. The results showed that the background of the Balinese people voluntarily to choose cremation in a crematorium relates to the application of the principles of McDonaldization, such as efficiency, calculability, standardization, and control. This condition is strengthened by the ability of the crematorium manager to maintain the human dimension as homo complexus. The combination of McDonaldization and the human dimension as homo complexus is a meaningful reason for Balinese to choose crematorium in doing ngaben voluntarily. Ngaben at the crematorium follows the same rules according to Hindu religion. In this way the spirit of the dead people could achieve the status of Dewa Pitara. Dewa Pitara is worshiped in the family temple in order to give blessing to the whole family members. Keywords: Balinese Hindu society, crematorium, death ritual, homo complexus, McDonaldization

Abstract

This critical ethnographic research aims to uncover the ideology behind the conversion of moors to forests and its implications for the sustainability of fields as an agricultural system. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, observation, and literature study. The results showed that the change of moor into the forest was due to the ideology adopted by farmers and the government's developmentalism and market ideology. This is complemented by binarism, which puts the moor in a negative connotation with rice fields. Binarism also applies to the younger generation, who views work as a farmer as unfavorable. This ideology is related to making the moor an agricultural system with no use, economic, sign, or symbolic value for farmers. The findings of this study can enrich the theory of ecological change due to the various ideologies. This research is expected to be the basis for various parties in making decisions to realize sustainable moor agriculture.

Abstract

This article results from a literature study that describes the discrepancy between expectations and reality in religious education in schools and the solution. The purpose of this research is not only to explain the weaknesses of religious education in schools, reflected in the gap between expectations and reality, but also to provide a solution. This research was conducted by critically reviewing various books. The data obtained is synthesized by following the line of thought of critical social theory. The study results show that the gap between expectations and reality in religious education in schools is mainly due to the pattern which emphasizes exclusivism more than inclusivism. This condition requires revitalization through the implementation of inclusive and interreligious religious education. Its application adheres to the characteristics of inclusivism combined with the ethical wisdom of the Bhagawad Gita. This is complemented by the intertwined development of habits of thought, speech, social action, and morality so that a wise acceptance of religious diversity emerges. An inclusive religious education method requires a learning method of habituation, modeling, normalizing, and disciplining the student body. Applying this method requires the cooperation of various teachers, especially teachers in schools and parents of students.

Abstract

The Law of the Republic of Indonesia Number 43 Year 2007 concerning Libraries states that schools are required to have school libraries based on the National Standards of Library (SNP). This condition forces every school to develop a library, even though the conditions are still far from the standard set. To realize the existence of library, each school uses various resources in its school to establish a school library. This study aims to explore the efforts of primary schools in Singaraja City to fulfill their obligations in providing library space. This study uses a qualitative approach based on critical social theory commonly used in the Cultural Studies approach. The data collection was carried out by in-depth interviews, involved observation and document study. Data analysis in this study follows Peter Berger's model with the following steps: conceptualization, conceptualization results, verification, and objectivation. The results show that the obligation to have a school library at the primary school level is not easy due to various obstacles. This gave rise to the ideology of permissivism or in Balinese it is called dadi dadi dogen. This ideology allows schools to use various types of spaces to become libraries, for example classrooms, teacher rooms, warehouses, UKS, and so on. Keywords: elementary school libraries, dadi dadi dogen, permissivism, ideology
